Everyone is telling you what no one tells you about Japan, so I figured I'd give my unique input on some things ''no one'' has told you about Japan.. Yet.. Because I just did.

Looks like my decision to live off KFC and McDonalds for 3 weeks was actually the healthy option! Got lots of good fresh fruit in hotel breakfast buffets, don’t know how they always have it when it’s not in the shops? Same as Portugal, there’s great salad in restaurants but you can’t get a lettuce anywhere in the supermarkets.

Haha seems like a good decision! I always take advantage if I'm staying at a nice place with lots of fruit in the buffet, I guess they just have a good deal with a provider!

On the fake beer: Watering down High Gravity brews is pretty common with most large (European) brands but they just aren't open about it. Standard Operation Procedures: Brew an 11% beer and water it down. Get to 11% not by adding more malts (grains) but adding various syrops. Don't properly lager the beer (because it takes time), just add chemical to mimic the wished effect. ...

3:53 🍕🍟 Move aside, boring old sandwich with fries! There's a new sheriff in town, namely our Nordic abomination, the kebab pizza with fries on top! 🎉 Imagine a cheesy, saucy slice of heaven loaded with savoury meats topped with a bed of golden, crispy fries, topped with an irresistible yoghurt-based sauce. It's like a party in your mouth that you never want to end! Prolonged use will have adverse effects on your waistline.

Superb and extremely accurate video. I see that subscriber number continue to tick up, Emil! Anyway, onto my ¥2: 1) I remember going into a grocery store in Kuromon Market (in Osaka, for those who don't know) to get a few things to bring back to my hotel, and for curiosity's sake as I am a decent home cook and was interested in seeing how much groceries were in Japan compared to back home in the states. The prices of fruit was WAY more. I'll post a photo to the channel discord showing my spoils. Were they excellent, ripe fruit? Absolutely. Were they worth the ridiculous price? Probably not. Strawberries picked at a u-pick roadside farm in Washington are just as good, if not better, and at a fraction of the price even with the horrible yen/dollar rate. 2) Yes, Japanese food is not that healthy. Granted, one could argue that a lot of those foods are imports from other countries (tempura from Portugal, for example), but it's a marvel at how slim a lot of Japanese folks are considering how much fried food and carbs there are. You mentioned soba-meshi, but yakisoba-pan in conbinis was utterly ridiculous to me. Hot carb on carb action there, baby! 3) Work culture can be shit in any country one can go to. Asshole bosses are not a rarity in the world, unfortunately. 4) The Strong Zero/Shochu combo seems like a challenge to me. A new gaijin killer, perhaps. 5) The only time I saw outdoor seating was outside of a few izakayas in places where there was a lot of room in the street. It's a true shame that it's not more prevalent, to be honest. This time of the year is a great time to enjoy outdoor seating, so it's frustrating that it's not as prevalent. It's definitely prevalent where I am. 6) And I think we have our answer as to part of why that is - the goddamned bugs. Several of the insects where I call home are terrifying, but nowhere near as awful looking as that centipede. Fuck that. 7) Ah yes, the eigo problem. However, I learned that a little Japanese goes a long way for folks, as is true in any other country. But man, a lot of the younger generation does a superb job of speaking English confidently. I do know the terror of the conbini workers, though - I saw that a few times myself. Awesome points, yet again!

Yakisoba sandwich all carb all the time. So the key to practice Japanese is to shop at stores all the time and maybe to correct a Japanese person everytime they speak English at you. Also throw in a 英語上手 at the end for good measure, this channel is giving all kinds of great ideas.

Hi Emil - or I'll accept you as Frank - being from Australia I guess I see quite a few "Jesus Christ, fuck that!" insects, but most can be dealt with by stamping on them or hitting with a thong. Gotta be careful though, that you kill the big ones outright and don't just piss them off! But I do like cicadas - love listening to them on a warm summer night. So, when you get your tour company up and running for small bespoke groups of your I -want-to-visit-Japan-can-you-be-our-tour-guide fans.....give me a bit of a discount and I'll come along and sort out the insects!
