I don't think Camilla's voice has declined terribly. I think most of her sound is made by creating tension in her voice so her performances are very hit or miss. I think that's always been the case. Singing with tension all the time isn't sustainable.

@@lautarogonzales470 I wouldn’t say she was “forced” to, but her voice was always a little sharp, raspy, and…crackly (idk how else to say it) and it reached its peak raspiness around mid-2014 (look up 5H’s Today Show 2014 performance and any other performance from that era). Then when the Sledgehammer era started the lower, raspy tone disappeared almost overnight and she suddenly started sounding very light, nasally, and like she inhaled helium every performance. In my opinion a lot of her issues stem from her singing too high for too long. Yes she’s a soprano but she’s 25 not 15 and she may not realize how much her voice is maturing naturally. She’s always forced it to be higher than it is, her larynx goes through the roof when she gets near the 5th octave, and her ease has always been in her lower notes even when she didn’t use them much. If she lowered the keys of her songs for a little bit she’d probably have a much easier time.

she's definitely improved. thank god, for a moment there i was worried for her voice. she seemed to strain alot. she was very much playing into what was said here about mezzos vs sopranos. she relied on her light, thin tone to sound 'impressive'. but she often over did it, fell flat/off and sounded throaty. she also had to use pre recorded tracks during some performances because she couldn't properly hit all the notes. i do think she's one who gets to caught up in it all and doesn't actually think about being able to sing her songs live. recently, she's sounded more full and she's used her lower register more. i like hearing more tone from her, the constant high screaming was what she was known for but it was......

Good for Katy, but I honestly feel like she gave up her agility and dimension for solid vocals and belts. That doesn't really make me happier because her vocal prime in my opinion (maybe not technique wise) was 2006-2008, her voice had much more dimension, she used her beautiful falsetto a lot, and she could riff and run a lot compared to now where her runs are mostly slippery and muffled. I guess this is more palatable to the public to be considered a competent vocalist but for me the beauty and uniqueness of her voice was lost sadly

10:08 I think Mariah's discography is being celebrated more now (especially in the States) because more people are becoming aware of her input in creating it; Whitney & Celine's discographies are well-renowned though. In fact, in some continents their music is more well-known than Mariah's. I knew about them before I knew about Mariah; one could argue that "I Will Always Love You" & "My Heart Will Go On" are more renowned worldwide than "Hero". "All I Want For Christmas" has gained steam over the years though. 2:35 Ooh that's some unfiltered ☕ about Mezzo-Sopranos often having better techniques than Sopranos in mainstream music; I wonder if the same can be said about Baritones & Tenors in mainstream music 🔍 6:34 You're right! Singing is first and foremost about feeling, thus it's not every single note that must sound clean; for example, those raspy belts from Celine in "L'amour existe encore" are incredibly memorable, impressive & touching!

With regards to baritones and tenors I do think it’s very similar to mezzos and sopranos… they have a harder time to achieve the desirable qualities in both pop and RnB vocals and music and so have to work harder on their voices to do so. More dedication cause it doesn’t come as easy and they need the technique to do so healthily.

It's sad about Camila, really. She has gotten a darker tone which to me is a plus, but consistency has been highly inconsistent. She sure has a lot of potential, but I think she hasn't found her place in her voice just yet. Like, her voice, you know...? That thing that sets her apart from the rest, and lets us hear Camila, and not just another young singer. Could she be in need of rest? Maybe a different style of singing? Sorry if this sounds iffy, I truly do not mean it like that, I'm just clueless. Katy Perry is getting a lot better. She has a lot more control, a lot more stamina, and her belts are quite full of great resonance. Granted, her B4s were always outstanding, but she's truly belting it nicely. I'm excited to see where her vocal journey leads her, and hopefully, the music she starts singing/writing about that takes advantage of her better vocal condition and improvement. I honestly don't know how to say a definitive thing about the differences between the technique of sopranos vs. mezzos. It's like each category exercises different aspects of their voice, while neglecting the rest, or hyper-focusing on a single one to a point that it becomes detrimental. From personal experience, listening to sooooooo much music, sopranos tend to favor going high regardless of "technique" or ease. Since their voice sits higher, they'll usually, not always, have an easier ride mixing all the way up, but imo, songs are better when climaxes are built into the natural ascent of the emotionality of a song, which sometimes makes sopranos forget that agility, darkness, and nuance are very important aspects of a complete singer. On the other hand we have mezzos. They naturally have a darker/lower/heavier voice than sopranos, which means that if they want to street-fight them, they need to polish EVERYTHING, specially their mixing capabilities, which imo, makes their voices flourish insanely great, however, mezzos have a tendency to want to fly with the birds, when their voices simply aren't suited to soar all the way up there, at least not healthily, which gives us mezzo singers struggling when they shouldn't have to suffer in the first place. I believe this is just a problem with the music industry overall, where the birds, kites, and planes are favored, and everyone else not able to belt above C5 is automatically a "bad singer". It's sad. Vocal rest is necessary if the problems are caused by overusage. Think of it like working out. Most people do workout splits to work different areas of their body, along with different muscles inside those areas, while giving the others plenty of time to rest to prevent injury or physical exhaustion. Our voices work very similarly to that, which is why warm-ups work great, and people get looser after making sounds, which allows their entire vocal tract to get warm, and work properly just like your hams when deadlifting. I cannot lift heavier weights without working out, and progressively adding more controlled stress on my muscles, so that my muscles "remember", tear-down, and heal bigger and stronger. Vocal problems should be addressed properly, carefully, and accurately. Some singers sing unhealthily, others sing outside of their range, others have breathing issues that need to be inspected, some aren't singing enough, and others are singing the incorrect genre for their voice. Technical imperfections, to me, are still under the umbrella of having a good singing "technique". Look at all the Gospel singers, specially the older ones. They've been growling, squalling, shouting, and cracking purposely for emotion and effect, and their voices are still going strong. Sounding too "perfect" IS BORING, specially if what you're singing about doesn't match the vocals. Well-known singers like Whitney and Celine faked "strain", or added a crackle simply for vocal effects, and this is why I still consider these "imperfections" part of their technique because they're able to do it healthily, and consistently. Hell, look at freaking Christina Aguilera, for God's sake. She's been growling since she was a teenager, and she's still somehow able to talk, sing, whistle, and what-not. Granted, she has declined slightly due to what I believe is singing outside of her range for far too long, but she can still sing. When it comes to singing as an art, I'll have to quote my man Robert Welsh, but make a change here and there to make it fit this discussion: "Individuality and creativity have no rules, but music most certainly has a theory". It is why we go to school, college, seminars, classes, and coaching. These people will equip you with all the tools and "technique" (I hate this stupid word) in order for you to let your creativity, and originality shine through in a healthy way that doesn't spend too many dollars, and leave you bankrupt by the end of your live performance. Taking this into account, vocal skill CAN and SHOULD be compared, however, giving prizes should be about the individuality of the artist and not their vocal chops because there's absolutely no chance in hell that BTS, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, Maluma, Bad Bunny, and Billie Eilish are better singers than Pink, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, and Beyoncé. This to me is ridiculously ridiculous. Rewards should be given for top favorite, or most-emotional, or whatever other category that speaks to the artistry of the singer, and not to the vocal skill of said singer because it's unfair for everyone involved.

This is exactly why I get annoyed when people trash on Rosé for not being the most technically proficient singer and only saying that the reason why vocal professionals praise her is because of her uNiQue vOicE. It's not only that but her artistry - she's able to express the message of the song so well that the language barrier dissolves. Her dynamics are great and whilst yes, she could improve her mix for instance, it sounding strained usually adds that emotions that other solid vocalists lack. I would love her to delve into vocal pedagogy, but I wouldn't want her to sacrifice the unique qualities of her voice to be the same cookie-cut vocals that other main vocalists have. It's balance in my opinion that matters the most. You should sing healthily but also add some individualistic flavours here and there.

As a frenchie, I absolutely adore Celine's discography, she has incredible songs in French. I believe her discography is really appreciated in France and french-speaking countries, and that's also because we have a culture of poetry and well crafted lyrics that isn't as rooted in anglosaxon music industries. I guess that's also why she is less knowned and valued here for her vocal abilities than for her amazing songs. But she's a legend here anyways (also we love quebec). @@bmwjourdandunngoddess6024 As an Senegalese now American citizen, you’re comment to me is very entitled and narrow minded. It’s called xenophobia, in which Céline along with many other Francophones have addressed with the American market. The American entertainment industry is VERY xenophobic and racist honestly. But this is not about racism so much as it’s about xenophobia. America doesn’t like foreign talent. They just started recently becoming more inclusive with Latin artists, but that’s as far as it goes. And even with that it’s not as good as it could be. The fact that Céline broke barriers becoming the first Francophone artist to have a #1 in the U.S. sells millions of records, and be the first Francophone artist to win the awards she won in her respective catagory, and the highest selling bilingual artist in America is an incredible feat considering other Francophone artist who have tried haven’t got as far as Céline. Céline is huge here in Africa, especially in French territories. After all she is the best selling international female artist overall, we love and respect her so much here. Aya Nakamura is huge up and coming and is from Mali, and if her career takes her to the US, she will have to face not only what Céline did but ALSO being black will be also be a huge hurdle for her. I’ve never experienced as much racism and xenophobia as I have until I moved to America. I have never seen so many white and black people be so insanely insulting to each other’s not only skin color but culture. My friends from the Middle East have been insulted and had things hurled at them, by other people of color. It’s sick. Stop acting like other cultures aren’t oppressed simply by the color of the skin, when culturally there is way more to people than their skin color. I would hate anyone who has never experienced another culture to talk about their oppression, simply because you don’t know.

Celebrating Mariah’s discography doesn’t take anything away from Celine or Whitney. Mariah’s discography is the most consistent one under many aspects, that doesn’t mean the other two don’t have great albums/songs or that every Mariah’s song is great. The fact that she’s the only one who writes all of her songs surely plays a part. here's the thing. twice do sometimes stylise their vocals to sound more "cute". but their singing voices aren't much different to their talking voices, and all registers match. they're not necessarily being forced into anything, but are given songs that require more training and skill than they have. kpop songs in general seem to sit alot higher, than alot of western stuff. they sound strained, high and squeaky because they're finding it hard to reach the notes. just like how we can hear that momo sounds 'better' in her lower register, because she's pushing less. you can also see the difference in how they sing during tours. when they're comfortable they sound alot more natural and rooted. yes, it's not smart to call it a fake voice because it obviously isn't, the sound is created by her vocal cords and she isn't changing anything much. it would be nice to have them show off more sides to their voices, but they need to market themselves and so far, this is what they're known and loved for. just hope that the girls continue to improve in both their confidence and skill.

Honestly, I don't find anything wrong with Camila's performance. She is still one of the few who always performs live rather than lipsync so there are days when the constant travel can lead to some disruption. But having heard her live at Global, she nailed it with her set and Coldplay's yellow. Plus , last year she lost her voice because she wasn't doing well on health front so it makes sense. But the amount of work she does with Eric Vetro her coach only tells the real scene. Let's not pick and choose.

Hmm Camila doesn't sound bad to me, but if you cite some trouble I'm not surprised, it was forseeable- the vocal lines in her songs are quite tough, and the vocal tone she used to distinguish herself was not realistic long term perhaps- sort of ultra youthful, nasal and thin, and I suspect produced with a high larynx, which can be less stable. Could be she has a more natural more mature timbre that's deeper, and she's in an awkward spot currently coaching out that sustainable sound still developing. Her phrasing and riffs are always fun though.

Based on stats Mariah is #1 is placed like Brazil, Asia Etc, but in the US popularity and stats is close among all 3 women. With Mariah actually edging them with streams and sales in recent times. Overall, Mariahs entire catalogue has aged a lot better than the two others. They have become mostly known for their most popular ballads or adult contemporary songs, whereas, Mariah is known to have several hits across a range of genres/subgenres. Her discography is much more diverse which makes her reach more audiences other then people 45+ years old. As younger generations grow and discover them you find that they connect to Mariahs work more (pop/rnb...pop/hiphop). Balladry is kinda de*d, although that formula is working for people like Adele.

My opinions:: 1. Camila's vocal decline - i don't think she has vocal decline, Camila's voice is naturally nasal and raspy, but rather she seems little confused to me. We know that Camila started vocal lessons since start of pandemic and i think that's mostly the reason, she's finding new technique, trying new sounds and that's why her performances in this last era are hit or miss. She became less nasal and she's working on her mix, so sometimes she's creating too much tension and that's why she sounds little rough, but for example her first performance of Bam Bam was great or her Tiny Desk also was good even though she was sick. So i think Camila just needs to sing more and just really find herself, but she doesn't have real vocal decline, i'd say that her technique is getting slowly better. 2. Katy's vocal prime - absolutely agree, Katy sounds amazing, holy shit, she never sounded better. I'm so proud of her. 3. Mezzos vs Sopranos - i agree with everything that was said. 4. Vocal rest - i agree on this, some singers needs have proper rest between performances or they'll sound rough, best example is definitely Perrie Edwards, well rested Perrie is one of 10 best vocalists of this generation, but when she's performing too frequently her voice sounds rough and her technique's worse. On the other hand some singers needs to consistently perform of they lose some skills, best example i know about is Taylor Swift. As a Swiftie i know about her vocals a lot, and i can say that on begins of her eras she sounds pitchy and as she's getting used to perform again her pitch gets better. Since pandemic Taylor had only 6 performances (2 - 2020, 4 - 2021: Folklore: Long Pond Studio Sessions, Betty at ACM Awards, Cardigan/August/Willow on Grammys, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow at Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, All Too Well on SNL and All Too Well at ATW: Short Film premiere. And in 2 of them she had pitch problems, WYSLMT at Rock n Roll Hall of Fame - her technique was good, but she was pitchy on some notes and All Too Well on SNL she was pitchy in some parts and her voice sounded little dry, on other performances was her pitch and technique good, so Taylor definitely needs perform more frequently. 5. Vocal technique - agree, ''imperfections'' can often sounds amazing, i'm enjoying some vocals or singers even though their technique can be little risky, but it sounds so cool and unique. 6. Subjective - objective - agree on this one, everybody has different tastes and you can enjoy different sounds and different singers more than other singers, but that's not making your favorites better vocalists. For example Olivia Rodrigo - I love Olivia and so far she's promising as vocalist but that's it, there are plenty of things that she should work on, like her low notes and belting above D5, and just overall technique. Soon we'll see how she's going to deal with vocals on her tour. 7. and 8 - not a kpop fan, so i have no really opinion on this. 9. Whitney and Celine being underrated musically compare to Mariah - yes this is true, Mariah definitely has more famous and appreciated music catalog than Whitney and Celine, but both of them also have good music and a lot jams.

2:59 : This sound like on another level ( Diva’s level ) of what her peers can do. Do you think that Beyoncé is vocally superior to her peers and near the vocal trinity ?

Beyonce is definitely one of the best of this decade. But her belting is not near trinity. She mixes instead of belting. In everything else, she can compete with the Trinity

@@takemyhand1988 Beyoncé is overall more developed as the vocal trinity. I mean at each register she‘s fantastic. The trinity were never perfekt. Whitney had weak lows, Mariah a weak head-voice and Celiné‘s upper-belts sometimes are… well. I think you all know what I mean.

I agree about Camila Cabello. I think that BlackPink could be bigger than they are now, but YG don't gave the support, they should be a phenomenon like Spice Girls. I don't that they delaying their comeback is a good strategy in Korea or world wide, because they don't have that long term strategy career like Adele, it is pop they need that breakthrough to be remarkable like BTS, but YG have a notorious mismanagement historical.

About Momo's voice - it's that JYP nasal technique. Momo is a rapper. She has a great voice for rapping. But JYP(E) wants her to sing in a high, cutesy tone. Hence the "fake" voice debate among fans. Kinda like how YG made Rosé sing like Park Bom. It's not fake in the sense that they can't do it, it's "fake" because there's clearly a more comfortable range or style that they should sing in, but due to the groups they're in, the way they're marketed, the key of the songs, etc... Be whatever it may be, it comes off as fake to people when it's really not. It's more... Uncomfortable? Something like that.

Sorry but putting 6:41 as technical imperfection is just inaccurate. When she is purposefully putting precise distortion, increasing the weight to give her a fuller sound while maintaining a healthy and balanced tone to not hurt her voice takes skill. Many singers try to growl and use distorted vocals and it ends sounding rough and it's not the case here. You may not like her new technique but it's far from imperfect like you're saying.
