I just wanted to say this but.. Its not Miku’s fault that she’s popular.. Its just that many people like her. Its their choice to like Miku, is it bc of her design? Voice bank? Who knows. With Miku being popular, the producers can finally be noticed for their hard work. Miku didn’t made herself popular, people did make them popular. A lot of people found vocaloid through Miku so we should be thankful that we still have the Vocaloid community growing. Of course I love the other vocaloids. To be in fact, Len, Meika, and Mikoto are my fav. This is just my opinion.. Thank you for my Ted Talk

A lot of factors accumulated and made Miku the "face of Vocaloid"/"Poster Girl for Vocaloid". And we can't control popularity. It also doesn't help that Crypton advertised the crap out of Miku and kind of let the other voicebanks fall flat. And I agree with everything else you said ^^

Vocaloid helps unnamed producers to be noticed and goes up to the professional circles. There's alot of examples of successful graduated vocaloid producers like Deco*27 for example. Rather than the advertisement I'd rather believe that it's the fans effort. I've seen alot of new contents being made around vocaloids alone wether for memes or songs.

Alot of the songs that got traction on nico from being up early and thus becoming 'classics' didn't ever make it to youtube by their original contributors, only from re-uploads, some which received alot of views, others the channels were later deleted and such, but since there were alot of re-uploads for popular songs, views would be split between cloned videos. More recently Japanese producers matriculated to KZbin, and we have western producers who've made it a bit big, of course on KZbin, since for a long time nico nico was in Japanese only for the interface. Now it has an English interface, but it's almost unnecessary to go to nico nico to get Vocaloid since you can watch stuff posted from current producers directly on here... I think that's part of why they're so different but it'd be super cool to see the breakdown.

Fun fact: It was a meme back in the days to remake Miku Miku ni Shite Ageru in virtually every dialect of Japanese. The song title is spelled Mikku Mikku sa Sute Keru in Tohoku dialects. The Akita dialect obviously got an Akita Neru version instead titled Nerru Nerru sa Sute Keru (that was hard as hell to translate). For the Sendai dialect version, please search on KZbin for this video title: Mikku Mikku sa Sute Keru【Subtitles: English & Romaji】Miku Hatsune【初音ミク】みっく ミック さ ステ けっぺ【MMD】

I really like this and it is a very interesting thing to observe. Seeing that this uses only data from Nico Nico Douga makes me think that it would be really cool to see a KZbin version to see the differences between them/the cultures they represent. Combining both would be a very interesting video as well.

You know back then achieving 1M in nico is like legendary, fanart and covers by utaites flooding everywhere. I kind of stopped checking after 2015-ish when people said vocaloid scene is dying. Coz I felt it too, I used to check nico2 everyday for new vocaloid songs and watch the weekly vocaloid ranking vid to discover producers. But after a lot of my favorite producers retired or hiatus, lack of Gumi songs so much I became sad to check and stopped :(( But I'm surprised how many recent vocaloid songs and Gumi's in youtube achieving so huge views!! And utaites gain so much popularity and commercial jobs too. I'm glad it's not dead yet but I hardly can't keep up anymore 😂

(I'm actually surprised that Senbonzakura never quite hit the top spot!) I think it was something like early September 2007 that I read a blog news article talking about a new voice synthesis software package. One of those, "Could this be the future? We'll see," sort of things. It linked to three demo songs on youtube. A search showed something like a dozen distinct videos and some duplicates. I kept an eye out for new ones. I had no idea at the time that I was getting in on the ground floor of something that was going to go big and that I'd still be listening to thirteen years later!

Kenshi is still awesome tho), Senbonzakura, Mozaik Role- I dunno, this gives me the nostalgia. This video was better back in 2020 than now in 2022. When you hear music without vocals, that means that the original vocaloid song has been muted for copyright reasons, and has been replaced with boring copyright-free instrumental music from KZbin's free music library. This video had all glorious vocaloid vocals throughout back in 2020, (and in most of 2021 as well?), but sadly no longer.

If anyone was wondering what that song during the beginning was (the one that was titled “я люблю”) I speak rudimentary Ukrainian, though it could be Russian the languages are quite similar especially in more common words that it shouldn’t be much of an issue. To my knowledge it says “I like” or “I love” but я can mean “I am” so it’s hard to pinpoint an exact translation. Anyway who may be fluent in either language, please comment what you think
