This one is absolutely amazing!!! You guys are awesome. Thanks for sending me this link. After having a look to the approach chart, and bearing in mind that this approach has an offset of 21 degrees if I understood it right once you are at 1 mile from the localizer ( 1 MOS - D335 A, according to the jeppeseen charts) then you turn left smoothly to align with the runway center, right? . Another question, I've seen that at 4 miles from the localizer the glideslope ends, so how do you manage the descent rate from that point? Do you use the LOC or the RNP and the TRK switch and put a descent angle of 3.40 ? Once again, thanks so much. Keep on submitting those challenging approaches to the channel, one of the best so far!

Thanks for your question. We flew the special IGS Y approach. Until 2.5 nautical miles from Mostar DME, which is located somewhere near the runway, you have to follow the guidance of your ILS indicator. After this point, you turn visually to the left to intercept the runway track. For vertical guidance, you have to follow now the PAPI indicators on the right and left of the runway. They are set to 3.5 degrees by the airport operator. In the video, we arrive at 17:25 at the minimum descent altitude of 1310 feet. At this point, we had to have the runway environment in sight. We still had to follow the ILS guidance keeping the runway in sight until 17:43. This was the arrival at the 2.5 DME point. From there, it was completed like a visual approach with no instrument guidance.

Another fantastic video, stunning scenery and a tricky approach, the terrain looks very close at all times so l imagine during an approach in worse visibility it must be much more challenging, by the way is the Runway narrower in width than the usual 45m?

Thanks for watching and your great feedback! Yes, the approach is special and tricky due to the high terrain and the offset track. The minimums are high. You can hear that in the video. Latest at the minimum auto callout, you have to see enough to continue visual to the runway. If this is not the case, you have to discontinue the approach. I agree, the runway looks somehow narrow. Maybe this is due to the steeper (3.5 degrees instead of 3 degrees) approach angle. But it is 45 meters wide. There is a trick to find out without looking into the charts: Count the wide stripes at the threshold. 12 stripes means 150 feet wide. 8 stripes mean 100 feet wide. This is international standard.
