VERY rare piece ! I worked for a big Zenith dealer 1970 til the end & never saw one. I remember the SM for it but thats it. Probably only a few runs & a lot of the rare stuff went to employees in Chicago. Also watch for early hand wired ( 12 & 19") B&W solid state stuff & the AA5 based 4 band SW reciever. Awesome stuff ! LFOD !

That’s a GREAT 👍 little radio 📻. DON’T change that grille cloth. You’ll NEVER 👎 get it the exact same, and may even devalue the radio 📻. Tube equipment is ALWAYS THE BEST!! Your friend, Jeff.

There is a clip that holds the power cord to the particle board you can remove and use the original cord.

Its great you have a source for some free equipment. I recently got a Pioneer QC-800A for cheap that didn't need much work. Might be working on a SX-727 for a friend of a friend. I try to not charge much more than the cost of the materials at this point since I am still learning. I try to order some extra parts for myself since I usually have to place a parts order.

I see three transformers on that chassis. Two output and a power isolation. Probably not a hot chassis. Nice to be safe though.

Okay, it is the caps, and your replacement @ 14:17 , 100 microferet 200 volt capacitor installation really does the trick, is there anyone out there around the Great Barrington to Albany NY area that is able to do this for me? New York City, lets hear from you!

You need a "cheater" cord. One of those power cords taken off the particle board from an old dead unit.

The selenium rectifier is not great for rectification but if it doesn't smell really bad it's probably doing something.

Those old radios are cool. I remember my parents having one. Smaller than this and mono but very smooth sounding with that rotary tuner. It may have been a Zenith, not sure!

That is not a hot chassis set. You have a transformer in there. The selenium rectifier will need to go. You can replace it with an IN4007 diode. Just make sure there’s a resistor in series with the diode as it is way more efficient than the selenium rectifier. These sets were incredibly sensitive on FM!

It's very beautiful. Absolutely State-Of-The-Art in its day. The AM and FM different colored dots...how did that work?

I've owned 3 of these. All three hum buzz with high volume if you try to connect a preamp to the phono input. Right now I've got a Harman Kardon Citation IV into the back of one of these, and it plays pretty well, but there is an underlying hum that gets real loud with the volume at halfway. The preamp is very powerful so I am getting away with it, but I wish someone would tell me that there's no way to ground a hot chassis 2 prong plug radio with up to date code wiring in a house because there's only one person I'd trust with this and I think they are probably no longer around to examine my Zenith X347 this time.

Just got off the phone with Biff or something like that been in the repair business 50 years The Stereo Shop in Hartford CT and he spent 10 minutes telling me he couldn't do this for under $300 to start and that you can't get parts anymore and then spent another 10 minutes telling me I could do it just go online and find the part for $5 and solder it in myself. Ocular migraine followed. Truth.
