Thank you so much for your instructions, Tash. The older I get, the more important it seems for me that I like the voice of the instructor. Yours is soo calm and encouraging, thank you for doing this. I am happy I found you in the ocean of knitting channels.

This is brilliant. I have never liked making button bands. I have just completed this one and it has come out perfectly. I will now use this method for all my future cardigans. Thank you for a clear tutorial. ❤

Thank you for a lovely tutorial for the bands on the garment. Picking up stitches takes time. I remember doing the button band vertically. Having done the beginning of the band in the rib. Then carry on knitting the band and use a crochet book to join it to the cardigan. It looks so neat. Take care ❤😊

Thank you for posting this! I’m almost to the point to do the button band for my First Cardigan by Hive Knits and in her pattern she points you to follow the tutorial video for the Champagne Cardigan on PetiteKnit’s website. I could follow that one fine but I feel like it’s much more confidence boosting to follow a tutorial by someone speaking the same language as you lol

Thanks so much Elle. Sometimes just hearing someone speak words that give you confidence in your process is just the bit extra you need.

You don't need to cut the yarn to start the other side. For every row, do a yarn over. For your button band of 9 row height, yarn over 9 times when it comes to start the other side. On the return side you knit 1 yarn over with the last stitch together, this creates the height needed to match the outer side of the button band. Learning that trick was such a game changer, no more cutting yarn.
@mostlyknittingАй бұрын
Thank you so much. I provided a link to Florence's tutorial and I know she doesnt cut the yarn so i thought people might to use that resource as well. :)

When you finished the double button band what bind off did you complete it with. Just finishing the April cardigan with this button band tutorial extremely helpful! Thanks again!
@mostlyknitting24 күн бұрын
Hi Kathleen I did a tubular bind off - it works well as the whole thing is already in double knitting so you dont even have to do the extra set up rows. :)
@kathleenmccrory716624 күн бұрын
Perfect! Thanks
@kathleenmccrory7166Ай бұрын
Question. Do you block the cardigan before picking up stitches? Currently making the April Cardigan but planning to use this button band . Thanks for the great tutorial!
@mostlyknittingАй бұрын
Thank you so much Kathleen. I think i did block it first as i was checking for length. At least i blocked it just before i started the bottom ribbing. I dont think i blocked it again after that. :)

Thank you. Not a scarey as I imagined. How long did it actually take to get to the end?

That is a good question. Unfortunately, I didnt time myself. At least a couple of hours. But actually, it was quite enjoyable and satisfying. :)

Question for you please. Does the slipping of the purls create a double thick fabric?
@mostlyknittingАй бұрын
Hi Lidja - yes it does. You have two layers of fabric. :)
@kristinehammond66708 күн бұрын
Thank you again for this tutorial - very helpful. One quick question: I notice when you are counting how many rows you had done for the button hole you didn't count the stitches on the needle as a row. I have always thought that stitches on the needle count as a row, am I wrong? With thanks, Kristine
@mostlyknitting7 күн бұрын
Thank you so much Kristine. I dont count the stitches on the needle as a row. If you think about it, when you cast on, you have stitches on the needles but no rows have been worked. When you knit one row, you have one V underneath. You have done one row only. If you count the sts on the needles, that would make 2 rows. But you have only done one row. I hope that helps. :)
@kristinehammond66707 күн бұрын
@@mostlyknitting Thank you Tash for your prompt reply. This is so confusing. It seems there are different ideas on this . Very Pink says to count the loops on the needle as a row, others like you say no. I'm thinking that the stitches on the needle would have been the previous purl row of the stocking stitch (set of 2 rows) so needs to be counted. ??? Knitting books only cover counting rows in the middle of the work. Many thanks.

Hi Tash! Why r u taking so smaller needles for taking stiches?
@mostlyknittingАй бұрын
Hi Sophie. That is the recommended needle size for the button band. For double knitting, to get row gauge to match, the needle size needs to be a lot smaller. :)
