This is such a well done video. Your attention to detail and ability to see this video through the viewers eyes (pasting pics of the 2x2 hat for comparison etc) make it a pleasure to watch. Thank you!! You rock.

Thanks for this video. I like the Musselburg hat, I have made a few with differents yarns. The temperature could be very cold in winter here in Québec, Canada. I appreciate having 4 layers with fold rim.
@mostlyknitting4 күн бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing that Nicole. I like the Musselburgh as lot as well - but for our weather, 4ply or sportweight is about as heavy as I could go. :)

Thank you for this compilation! I have made 2 Ann Gagnon's 2x2 Rib Hat, one for practice and one for man friend who was specific with what he would like his hat to look like. I still wear the practice hat , and recipient was very pleased last Christmas. I'm remembering there was a fussy purl 3 together I think, but after a few it wasn't too bad, end result A+

Great video. My current favorite hat is two-color so doesn’t count in the lineup but it’s the Arne & Carlos Reine Hat. So great with a variegated second color. Just knit another one. Easy peasy and fun knit.

Thank you for sharing the Reine hat, Jennifer. I love the look of colorwork hats so I'll check that one out for more mindful knitting times. :)

I made the 2x2 hat in (surprise) 2 days. It's easy TV knitting and a blank canvas for stripes. Get rid of the blip when switching colors by knitting a round with the new color instead of the 2x2. Resume the 2x2 on the next round. I used Sun Dragon Tips and Tricks video on closing up tips of fingers on gloves or tops on hats to have a nice tight top. Thanks Tash for searching out new hats to try!

Thanks so much for sharing your experience with the 2x2. I love your tips for striping as well. :)

Thanks for the suggestions. There are several that I will add to my queue. I also like The Basic Beanie by Tin Can Knits. It can be knit in any weight and comes in eight sizes in 1x1, 2x2 or 3x1 rib. I have used the Tin Can Knits app (free), chosen my size, yarn and rib details and the pattern is magically written for me!

Thanks for doing this episode. It inspired me to knit the 2x2, which I’ve had printed out for ages. Another good, free pattern is the Beanie Alba.. it turns out cute and is super quick to make. I look forward to more episodes like this. 😊

Great list! I know/have almost all. I just purchased and cast on the Essential Beanie. And it looks like the decreases are a bit different from all the other 2x2 decreases. All the ones I have done previously included purl decreases which can get pretty fiddly. This one only has knit decreases but seems to look pretty much the same. I'll be very happy not to do purl two together through the back loop.... One of my favourite patterns is the Dual Loop beanie. It's a very easy mod for any of the 2x2 patterns and I like the look of the tubular 1x1 better than the rearranged one for 2x2.
@mostlyknitting4 күн бұрын
Thanks so much for sharing your experiences and the recommendation for the Dual Loop beanie. Looking forwarding to trying that one as well. :)

Thanks for the suggestions and they are now added to my charity and gift giving list. I have the yarn for the Oslo hat, just have to commit to starting. Another free ribbed suggestion is Bankhead. Hi Tash! 👋🏼 I have a deep love for knitting hats. They will ALWAYS be my go-to comfort knit. Here are a few patterns that fit the criteria which I’ve knit multiple times: 1. On the C-Train by Espace Tricot 2. Seafarer's Watch Cap by The Seamen's Church Institute 3. Cambridge Watchcap by Hanna Breetz (not sure if the decreases are wonky on this one or if it was me)

Thanks so much for these recommendations Leanne. I always love to hear about a tried and true pattern. :)

Thanks for this list! I made the 2x2 hat several years ago for my brother. He loved it and it fit great…until he put it through the wash and felted it! 😡 Another hat I would recommend for DK weight is the Double Thick Cuff Hat by Verypink. It’s a folded brim that you tack down. It’s free on Ravelry and also has accompanying video tutorials….great for a newer knitter.

Thank you so much for the recommendation for the Double Thick Cuff Hat and for your positive experiences with the 2x2 (apart from the felting incident...) 😊

Thanks Tash for this useful video. I have many hats in my Ravelry queue and I keep getting decision paralysis about which one to knit next especially as some of those look so, so, so similar. Am about to cast off a Brownstone Beanie (Tori Yu) and once I've decided if the weird crown shaping actually suits the shape of my head (!), will then cast on the Manhattan hat (also by Tori Yu).

I think maybe the 0815 hat. Especially if your yarn is on the heavier side. Or the Purl Soho one because of the amount of stockinette.
