Nora, you could take your book to an office supply store such as Office Depot or Kinkos they can cut the spine off the book and spiral bind it for you so it will lay flat. I love the disappearing nine patch idea. Love all the exchange blocks.

When I lived in the south of England my group did a block exchange with a group of American wives whose husbands had all been deployed to London, whether in the forces or to IT businesses etc. We took it in turns to pick a block, so as you moved down the line you might end up with something you wouldn’t have chosen! However when I put my 12 blocks together they made a sampler quilt which I am really fond of and it’s full of memories of fun get togethers .

Nora, that is really GREAT that you are getting involved and doing the block exchange and trying something new by leading one. That is just awesome. Please don't worry that you don't know what you are doing, you will learn. So you made a mistake, so what? I just think it is really great that you are getting out there and doing something new.

In your Halloween blocks where four darks will meet, you could add some stitch and flip corners in brights, which would give a square in a square look. Fun blocks.

You could add solid color alternate blocks for the Halloween blocks

If you do equal no. of blocks using half with dark cornets and half with light corners and press all to the dark ,they will all nest together well and that is always a blessing.

Hi re cutting the ghost face in half for a disappearing 9 patch. U could do the variation where u cut maybe 1/3 of the middle block instead of 1/2 right in the middle and u end up with some small squares and could keep the ghost face, lots of ideas instead of cutting the middle.
