I had bought one new in 1984 and I think it is my favorite bike of all time for the type of riding I do (at least now). I was trying to think of something similar on the market now that would ride similar. I was thinking the Ducati Scrambler Icon? Probably not as dependable though but it is light, has a 6 speed like the Ascot and not a V-twin but not a parallel twin either. Any ideas? (I have heavier bikes, but since I'm in my 70's now, it would be nice to get a lighter bike again.)

Triumph just came out with two 400 cc bikes that are probably about the same size and power of the Ascot. Maybe just a smidge less power.

@@skymningforelsket1302 Thanks for the suggestion. I was just at the motorcycle dealership looking at a Honda SCL500 and I think that may fit the bill, but may look at that Triumph first. Thx

Wow! I had a friend while I was serving in the Marine Corps that rode one of those, I noticed the U.S.M.C. decal on the tank and wondered what the odds were of that being his old bike. I always liked that bike, and it was very versatile compared to all the other types of bikes that rode in our group.

That the Ascot is now HISTORIC, is frankly scary to me as it was my first NEW vehicle purchase in 1984! Man, I'm getting OLD. LOL.

I had one in 1984, my third street bike, as I headed off to the University of Alabama as an incoming freshman.

hey man, I just bought a 1983 Honda Ascot for $300. its a project/flip depending on how it goes If you could make a playlist of ALL the ascot videos, it would really help as I could really use your experience as guidance. Also is there any way I oculd get in contact with you/? I would be amazing having you guide me along the way given you've been through the same journey

While not shaft drive, I’d say the CB-500X is pretty similar to the Ascot. It is also a very unassuming bike that is a good value and really all a person needs to have fun. Of course I didn’t buy one....because I wanted a fatter ADV bike 😊

Yeah you are right. And it's the engine they are putting in everything. I did ride a cb500x and liked it. But at the time i had my vstrom 650 and i thought that was a better bike. I like the entry level bikes. Once you get to super tenere, gs prices they are not as accessible for more people.

The Ascot was a sales flop, No matter to me I bought one NEW as it was a screaming deal. I loved the low maintenance aspect of the shaft drive. It was my commuter bike for years until I got married and need a car. Sold it in the early '90s - I regret that. LOL.

Have you looked inside the Gas-tank.? If tank was stored dry , youd be very fortunate. To make a bike that old really reliable it shouldnt fly under your radar..Cheers

Most of those cafe racer bikes aren’t worth much. People would rather have the original look instead.

The Honda Ascot was NOT ahead of it's time. In fact it was regarded as one of the worst motorcycles Honda ever sold. You say that only because you have one.
