A part of me wants to imagine this story as being symbolic for an event in a normal life. One where both the speaker and the listener are just normal human beans, but with wildly differing personalities - as if they were different species. That night, the listener didn't actually let a mothgirl into their house. But they did in fact let the speaker in - not into their house, but into their emotional life. The lamps that decorate the house, the aura, and the glow the mothgirl speaks of, are all representative of positive facets of the listener. Ones which they cannot recognize within themselves, or qualities which they see as ordinary, and ignore as easily as one ignores an ikea lämp. But these qualities are what draws the speaker in, like a moth to a flame. And despite having been burned before, they take a leap of faith, and seek out the listener that night - trying to make an emotional connection, with a listener who's locked their emotions inside.
