I thought that since Lucas' heart passed onto the dragon, nothing bad would happen like the creation of the loop, and It would create a world just after Ness and the gang beat Giygas.( It was the most monumental event in the series.) Tazmily would be fine, and so would the rest of the world, and maybe, just maybe, Mother 4 is our world we know and love.

The final song in the series. One of my absolute videogame franchises... is over. And not with a cheap and boring ending, but a strong one that says "Goodbye" to us, the players. All three MOTHER games are works of art, and they brim with charm that cannot be replicated in any shape or form. A charm that Itoi envisioned since the very first game, EarthBound Beginnings.

It definitely is “one of the absolute videogame franchises.” Real talk, these 3 games are damn beautiful works of art. Sadly, I haven’t played 1 or 3 (I watched a streamer play through 3, and I’ve never seen all of 1), nor have I finished Earthbound. Yet, somehow, every time I listen to its music or really think about the game, I feel so nostalgic and emotional. It’s a very odd feeling that I don’t think anything else has yet to give me. It really is an experience that leaves a lasting impression on anybody, even those who haven’t touched a videogame. This game is more than just a banger of a send off to the series; it’s a beautiful, creative, funny, strange, and odd way of Itoi telling us “We’ll be alright.”

I have to agree. I finished EarthBound, and am playing through Mother 3. A few days ago I had an issue that, if I can't solve, basically means I have to start Mother 3 over. I was really far too, I had gotten back from Tanetane Island in chapter 7. The magic of the games, however, is that even if my save data is ultimately gone, I'll come back with a full heart. I'll go through the game, not just to beat it, but to play it again. The hours I've already spent are hours I'd spend again.

That's why the ambiguity of the ending works so well: the player is left up to interpret what happened in their own personal way. In short, everyone has their own conclusion to MOTHER 3 after the Dark Dragon rises from below. There's no "definitive" ending to the game.

Back in August, I was at a videogame expo a little ways away from where I live. While looking around at the various vendors, I saw a copy of MOTHER 3 on one of the tables. I initially thought it was a Japanese copy of the game but it turned out it was a repro-cartridge with Tomato's fan translation, the one that I-and many other MOTHER fans-have experienced this game with. It had been over 10 years since I played MOTHER 3 for the first time, I was about 11-12 years old. The only thing that I understood was just how sad the story was. I'm on chapter 7 now, and I'm beginning to realize that this game isn't entirely sad, but actually gives us players some semblance of hope. There are still plenty of little moments like the fireworks and musical numbers in the presents throughout the game. But also a message about learning what's important to you in this life. Contrary to what the Fassad tells the people of Tazmily, happiness doesn't solely come from materials (especially when you have to pay for them). But rather from the world around us. Shigesato Itoi has always seemed so curious about the world around him, and wishes the same for the players of his video games. The world of MOTHER 3 seems to be fine after awakening the dragon, but what about our world? I know this is a long-winded comment, but I just wanted to share these thoughts. Just because I finally realized this games message after all these years! While playing it on actual hardware no less!

I think MOTHER 3 was necessary specifically to tell us what happened to Porky after he escaped from his battle with Ness. Being a time traveller, I wonder if he ever returned to the events of Earthbound, just to check up with his former "friend". For some reason I believe Porky knew what he was doing when he entered the Capsule. He's far smarter than he lets seeing... After all, the picked the Nowhere Islands specifically to awake the dragon and destroy everything "until everyone who doesn't like" him "is gone". ...He never brought his own brother to his supposed utopia, and only created robot clones of his mother, and his own father is never regarded by him in any way in this game. For me, The Memory of Life is the memory Porky tried to escape from... Escape using time travel, through brainwashing and through tyranny. And of course... through absolute safety, from the Dragon itself. I would not be surprised, if he thought of the possibility of Claus failing him. He was the only obstacle left after all.

Don't worry. It's ok to cry now. The series is over. But when you do cry, make sure to cry out of happiness, not sadness. The series ended in the strongest way possible. Though Mother 4 will never officially release, it exists in you. You are the player. You are living in Mother 4. Ninten, Ness, and Lucas just ended the beginning of an era. You get to finish it, so finish it off strong for me, for you, and for us.

Theory: The Dark Dragon’s awakening disrupted the time stream so hard that it returned the Nowhere Islands back to normal, but in the process, it accidentally merged all three games together. So that basically means that every single element and location from each game will combine with each other to form an ultimate form. Of course, Hiwana and Claus will still be dead, much to most’s sadness. A strange but fitting ending to Nintendo’s greatest franchise in history.

Personally, I would imagine that as this song plays, Lucas, his friends, his remaining family, everyone we met during the END?, would be on the dragon's back, looking at the surrounding horizon, seeing the new world created from his whole adventure. They would feel a little confused, or distraught, that the world they had lived in before had just been wiped off (a second time in the eyes of Leder, though) to bring in the new world, but they know deep down that the worst has already come to pass. They're ready to start over once again, and this time, no one the likes of Porky would intervene in their way of life ever again.

when i first beat the game, i sat on this screen just listening and staring for a good 10 minutes or so. thinking about what just happened. they threw so much at you right at the end it was a little overwhelming, but not in a bad way. this was a great ending to the mother series. and thanks lodac for extending the mother 3 tracks for all to enjoy, and with this looking like the final track, what are you going to extend next? (if i had a suggestion it might be shin onigashima or its snes remake's ost haha)

This song represents everything in the mother Series… Sure I can get dark sometimes but in the end everything is restored to the world and every game, and then mother 3 case, all of the evil and corrupted things have left the world creating a new, friendlier world. And is represented with the fact that the logo now has no metal on it and it’s only wood and the earth itself… And the song putting this series to rest is a beautiful track that I consider my favorite in the game! I love Mother 3's ost. Aside from It's Over, this has gotta be my favorite track to play when finishing/after finishing a banger book series. This embodies the mystique of wondering what happens afterwards so well, and is great to shed a couple of tears to every time. Just finished the Arc of a Scythe series (minus the extra 4th book until sometime later), and gotta say a huge thanks for this extended song, it's so damn great for setting the final atmosphere. Also, for anyone looking for more songs like this, might I recommend Super Paper Mario - Memory 4. The credits, too, if you want some jovial ending tunes before putting on Memory 4.

MOTHER 3 came out the same year I was born. I don't know if it was the English version or not, but either way, it came out on 2006, right? When I figured this out, I thought that I was supposed to play the MOTHER series. This hit me while I was playing EarthBound, before completing MOTHER 1, and after completing MOTHER 3. The reason I'm saying this is because I feel like this song reminds me of that feeling.The feeling of like as if I NEEDED to play the MOTHER series. Although I still need to play MOTHER 1, I'm still enjoying it. Maybe you are too. That's what I hope.

Seeing the game title fade in with this music playing the earth looking fresh and new. I like to think of this as the old heaven and earth faded away and everyone is finally at rest forever and ever in heaven with God and our Lord Jesus. Everything is now perfect and no more darkness. But then there is Pokey a young kid who was abused with no friends besides Ness who got currupted by giygas the devil now suffers for all eternity in a small capsule drifting in nothing...how depressing this game is, and beautiful it is.

I like to think that everyone who survived is okay. Or who knows, maybe they ALL ended up where Hinawa is? Or maybe this is a new world entirely, with all the same people...but nothing bad will ever happen again? Maybe it's...Heaven. I saw a comment in a reply section, that everyone, perhaps, was cleansed from evil. I'd like to think that's what happened I'd like to think that everyone can live in peace. I'd like to think that Lucas was able to reunite with his family, no matter how unrealistic that may sound. I'd like to think that everyone learned the lessons of the past. I'd like to think...that the ending is happy. But I think we can all already agree that the ending is happy.
