CountryBeautiful at 8 years old I got taught that some older people try to do thing that could hurt you . ( trying to tell me what a pedophile was without actually saying that some adult want to have sex with you with out consent ). And kidnappers and that someone would notice bc beaches are busy . A bully again someone would notice . I think people are just to self conscious about letting their children on a beach .
@amanijsway53185 жыл бұрын
In my opinion you can’t start walking to school or going places by yourself until 11-12. You’re much bigger at that age so you can defend yourself better and you catch onto things faster at that age . Like you know not to go in this person car to get some candy . But I still don’t think I’m going to let my child go to the beach or the mall by themselves . If I’m not around that area . If you’re downtown I’m downtown too . May not be in the same building but I’m close. Now when you hit teenage years yeah go have fun just text every hour or so that you’re fine .

The reason parents are more protective nowadays is not because the "parenting trend" has changed, it's because the dangers in the city are different. People used to ride the subway as a kid and walk miles to school and so on, but there wasn't the same problems at the time that put kids in danger, or at least not on that level.

You can’t even trust a childcare center to look after the kid there’s plenty of child abusers and predators in those too! You really have no clue how dangerous the real world is! Not everybody means well ! I’m a Sunday school teacher and I do worry about the kids because there’s a lot of nasty people that have no problem doing bad things to kids ! Parents and teachers have every right to be protective of the kids!

@@owlknickerknots2607 Statistically your child probably won't get snatched or hurt. Especially not when you live in a relatively safe area. The news and media always make it seem like this stuff is happening every day to every single kid out there, but it actually isn't all that often considering the amount of children at the same ages doing the same things. IN FACT, children are far, far more likely to be abducted and even murdered or raped by a family member or family friend than an actual stranger. Statistics. Statistics are key. Being over protective of your kid because you're afraid they'll get kidnapped is just as logical as never letting your kid out into the sun because they can get skin cancer. It's just not likely unless you're INCREDIBLY reckless. Let kids live. You aren't teaching them real world skills by being that protective. The outside world is getting LESS dangerous than it was thirty years ago, yet parents are getting MORE protective. It makes no sense.

Looking back, I understand that anything could've happened, especially in the low income housing area, and it's not how I'd raise my child, but it was how I was raised and I've come to terms with that a long time ago. Thank God for guarding me all the way! God bless the people that came to the rescue!

A group of friends and I were walking into line for a ride at six flags a couple weeks ago and we noticed one kid by himself walk out of line and come back. Naturally we assumed he went to put something back and was coming back to meet the kids ahead of us in line so my friend said to us “hey let the little guy back up here with his friends” gesturing to us letting him back in front of us. The little boy couldn’t have been older than 6 and started to look uncomfortable. He said those aren’t my friends I’m looking for my mother she got on this ride and told me to go get a drink. I asked if there was any chance he knew his moms number and his eyes started to well up, it was clear he didn’t know if he should trust us or not. My friend walked out of line in search for his mom and luckily they found her with arms wide open thanking my friend repeatedly for bringing him back. So scary to see the panic on his face and definitely irresponsible because he wasn’t confident and independent but instead he was getting very upset and scared without his mom.

I was raised like this. I knew all about predators and how to avoid them. Actually a grown man tried to talk me into getting in his car when I was 12. I took out my Swiss Army knife and said "drive away now or I will scream". The scariest thing that happened was right in our own yard. We lived across from a golf course and a man came over and said his ball went behind our bushes. My older sister went in to look and freaky fast he went in behind her. We heard her yell "get mom" but we were already running. Mom comes out with the shotgun and holds him in the front yard until the cops get there and arrest him. Turns out he was holding his hand over her mouth trying to get her shorts undone but she got ahold of his balls and gave a good squeeze so he fell off and she yelled. He was trying to run away doubled over when mom came out. She was about 8, but our parents taught us about things like that-we knew what to do.

I remember the first time my dad told me that, i was 13 and a van had been spotted lurking by elementary schools. I was planning on walking to a bakery after class (I am home schooled and was taking music classes at the middle school) but my dad picked me up because he wasn't going to risk it. I remember saying that I would be careful but he was not taking no for an answer. I don't think anything would have happened if he had let me walk, in fact that alert about the van was a week old but the fact that he thought there was danger and acted on it shows what a good parent he is.

Can't relate to the premise 😂😂 I went outside on my own as a kid with friends and everywhere starting when I started school around 7-8 yrs old (common age to start school where I'm from, a small European country, medium-sized town). Then again I'm from a medium-good neighbourhood and never went *too* far from my house, wherever we (neighbourhood kids and I) could walk/run to we would be. Parents always taught me to keep distance with adults and to be ready to protect myself/run away if necessary. I'm thankful for my childhood, wouldn't change it for the world, but I understand that in other countries and other cultures things can be different and that's also okay.

What really worries me is more how much some parents spend so much time scaring their kids about some incredibly rare threat like that than they do warning them about the very ubiquitous threats out there like cars that claim the lives of half a dozen children every day in the US alone, several hundred if you look at the global figures. The media of course doesn't help as they almost exclusively report only on the sensation and the rare, thus the one child that gets abducted is all over the news but the thousand that were killed by cars since the last time they actually gave a damn about the fate of some child not a peep.
@RepaidChalice375 жыл бұрын
miyubail I think kindergarten is a bit too little to start independent waking home.... some kids become absent minded at times and may forget to look before crossing or become lost by forgetting a turn.... I know that I do it often enough and I’m an adult! My local school doesn’t let kindergarteners off the bus unless a signed off parent is at the stop to pick them up. Not even factoring in the stranger danger aspect just the logic and over all mind of children is not strong enough to be able to do some things. (Depending on the situation of course, every circumstance is different and I’m glad your child turned out all right)
