I never ever seen a man ever care so passionately about animals especially ones people do not like! I’ve always been just like you growing up any animal at all I found alone or in need I’d bring them home with tears in my eyes and my mom ALWAYS allowed me to nurse them back to health and let them back into the wild or to someone who wanted to adopt them!! I’d be the same exact way if I seen some helpless baby possum like this or any animal at that !! Your awesome for this thank you for sharing this heartwarming video !! Updates would be awesome !😁

How very precious they are I saved some babies tonight from a momma who was hit also & we’re praying we can save them but wildlife rescue is not open till the AM which is crazy as most animals hit by cars happens at night. 😢

To be fair, most people don't know that Opossums are marsupials, and wouldn't even have any reason to think about checking roadkill for babies. I think what is lacking here isn't really empathy, it's education.

I found this video after searching for this exact thing. This morning, there was a possum on the road in front of our house. It was hit, and I went out to move her off of the road so she could rest in peace, not in pieces. Unfortunately, when I walked closer, I saw four deceased baby possums and I was so upset. I thought that was all of them. Moving over to the mama, I saw at least two more babies. They were very still, I figured they didn't make it either. I was about to move her when I heard a faint hissing sound. Wasn't sure if she was passing gas from starting to decompose, or if she was still alive. Neither of those guesses were correct. A baby came crawling forward, eyes not yet open- very young and small. I took the baby in and made sure it was warm, then went back to finish moving mama off of the road. I flipped her over and saw two more tiny tails sticking out of her pouch. They were moving. Then I knew I had to get them out of there. Once I got them out, I showed my gram and aunt. We warmed them up in a box with two sheets of sewing fleece. When my gram and I left for work, we asked my aunt to take the babies to a local wildlife rescue. (Knowing they had incubators and experience with young animals.) She took the car and the baby opossums. The lady at the rescue promised to give us updates on their progress, and I'm so glad I went out there this morning. There's no way I could leave them there on the road.

This is what I meant you have to look in the pouch and it’s not for the faint of heart. You have to reach down in that pouch and make sure you get every baby out.

There could’ve been one more in her pouch. I’ve rescued many possums from dead mamas. You have to look in a 12 foot radius at least because they go flying everywhere and there are times where I had to reach my hand and into the pouch to get the babies every single one of them. Sometimes they weren’t breathing air so I always had Tupperware paper towels, saran wrap, that’s for the babies because they’re not breathing air. Usually those don’t make it, but if just one does, my efforts were worth it. I’m trusting you know what you’re doing and you looked in the pouch you have to reach down in there if there’s a good chance there’s a “runt”(The smallest of the litter). Please don’t leave mama and dead baby on the road. People may know this, but possum will not give you rabies but still wash your hands please. kudos to you for doing that. It’s not for anyone with a weak stomach.
