What I don't understand is why the title says mother buffalo tries to help her calf from drowning. I think this made me so angry when I realize the calf died and mother did nothing. Although the mother seemed like she was exhausted and couldn't help even if she tried.. As I talked to someone else I realized that man couldn't help,he would have been killed. Oh no, this is terrible. See what happens when you insist on ignoring the wise counsel of highly experienced buffalo mothers and start to buy into silly fads when it comes to childbirth! ... not that waterbirths are new, per se. It would seem however that they are making a comeback ... and this mother decided she wanted to jump on that bandwagon! I'm sure the experienced buffalo mothers tried to tell her that it's best to have your baby in a buffalo hospital in the buffalo maternity ward with all the experienced buffalo doctors, nurses and midwives. But most importantly I'm sure the experienced buffalo mothers would have told her that it's an excellent opportunity to get absolutely drug-fu*#ed and it be perfectly legal for her to do so. But nooooooooooooooo. Like most new mothers these days, google wins when it comes to seeking guidance with anything to do with children - pregnancy/birthing/raising ... anything. Alright, yes I am being a bit silly .. in the past I wouldn't have to put such an obvious footnote but I am trying to be more Politically Correct by catering to those who were unfortunately born without (or have lost) their funny-bone (such a tragic condition...) To all of the commentators out there who think that Mister Safari-Guide should have been the buffalo mothers 'hero' by jumping in there and helping the poor newborn to breath, thus ensuring his survival and the buffalo family's happiness ..... fuck me dead you're a bunch of idiots (it's times like this I really wish I had the option to bold, italisise and underline in youtube comments). Despite the fact that the VERY VERY VERY accurate and bloody good reason for him NOT DOING SO has been mentioned a number of times in various comments, still people are posting opinions like: 'you're such a big meanie for not doing anything ... you're a monster!! ... I cannot believe you just watched a helpless baby drown you monster .... all you had to do was jump out of your car and go and hold the calfs head up out of the water, or move him out of the water ... they clearly needed your help .. you're heartless like Hitler!' If your sentiments are anything like the above example, then I'm already assuming that you haven't read this far (so I am safe to insult you some more!). That plan works really really well ... but only if nature was completely designed by someone as daft as yourself. Lets forgot for a moment that buffalo, well they just happen to be one of the most agressive animals in africa. Their size could be intimidating and they fact the adults weigh up to 1tonne is of concern too. For their size and weight they are fast on their feet and also armed with large horns and a proclivity to to try and gore animals that come near them and their herds that aren't other buffalo. Oh yea sure, we can ignore all of that because .... duh! Because of the newborn! Surely the buffalos have the same ability to apply logical reasoning to situations they find themselves in as we humans do, therefore they will instinctively know that this strange intruder that is closing in fast and heading for the mother who just delivered her offspring only has the best intentions and is there to help! I'm positive that's how the buffalo would have reacted if someone had of rushed in there to save the baby. Who knows ... the mother might be so thankful for the heroic efforts that she names the calf after the hero. #Sarcasm Get a fucking life and stop thinking that everytime a video is posted where a wild animal suffers some kind of misfortune, that a human could just rush in an assist. I am inclined to agree that the whole 'can't interfere - it;s nature' argument is overused at times but there are other times it's perfectly fitting... this is one of those times where a scrawny 80kg human would be wise to think twice about waltzing into a heard of buffalo where one of the cows has just given birth to a calf, for fear that he might be the recipient of one of their well practices ' horn thrusts' that the lions so love to avoid.
