►About the Game -
MOTHERED is a first-person horror adventure game with point-and-click mechanics, set in a familiar yet eerily unnatural depiction of home. Set over the course of seven days, you play the role of LIANA - a young girl who's arrived home to stay with her mother after having undergone major surgery.
Upon arriving at your new home, all you find is a strange mannequin who claims to be your mother. Through speaking with this mannequin, you will discover more about the role you play in this world. Can Liana help mother go back to the things they were, or will you find yourself repeating past mistakes?
FEATURING:
A dense, engaging narrative that gradually reveals itself over the course of 7 days, each with a morning, afternoon, evening and night time.
An immersive, tense atmosphere that makes use of the uncanny to tell a story that will keep you guessing until the credits roll.
The possibility of breaking the cycle and finding your own path?

This is one of my favorite indie games ever. It's so unsettling! If I remember right you can keep playing through the week and picking up more secrets. I think there's a part where you can hide in the parent's wardrobe to listen to their argument, and the hatch you unlocked at the end stays unlocked.

In the graveyard scene, the real Lianna's conscience came through somehow and asked the questions: "Mom is that you?" Dad is here too?" and so on. But the "robot" version didn't speak the words, only we heard them as Lianna's inner dialog. So seeing her grave triggered somehow the exact effect the parents so wanted to achieve but ironically they had censored it and will keep doing so probably with future version, unaware of their ultimate goal being so close.

The most disturbing thing about this game is that there are apples growing in birch trees.
@overtune3607

Might have been intentional though. The character can't perceive the world as it is because of her defective, malfunctioning body: she picking up rotten apples thinking they looked good which was a test provided by the mother(were they even apples at all?), the mother duplicates she sees, the weird/ugly look of the mother, furnitures disappearing etc

I couldn't get past the opening scene in which "father" told Liana (who'd recently had a "major surgery") to _run_ into the house through torrential rain, get a box left for him, and run it back out to him in the car! That both majorly clued me off and made me want to punch the dad in the nose.🤬 😂🤣 I enjoyed your enjoyment, Chris. And I'm really glad you went on to get a second--far more satisfying--ending. I _do_ like games with multiple layers. 👍

I liked how it changes your thinking throughout the game. First it seems something’s nefarious with the mother, turns out the situation is that Liana is the anomaly. It’s very good. Also, the lighting in some instances were great. Like when the mother is in the dark hallway after you first speak to the brother, the moonlight illuminating half of her face. Little instances like that were good scares without being in your face about it. Anyway, thanks for sharing another great game!

Some of these horror games you've played have a vibe that I cannot fully explain. The mundane combined with the surreal. Being with others yet somehow being alone at the same time. I'm guessing the dirt she was being fed was sand for silicone, maybe? Interesting about the bilocating, mannequin mom. Bilocation (appearing in two places at once) is one of the supernatural miracals the Catholic churches requires to canonize someone as an official saint. Basically, mom's a saint for putting up with the project.

This game was essentially poetry in video game form. There are a lot of lessons to be gleaned here...stories about life "how do we know if we're on the right path" "we'll find out in the end" and some futuristic possibilities with computers becoming self-aware. The game answers many questions but posits even more. Dual yet separate realities was also another profound concept touched upon. There's a lot to digest here, and the artwork and music was all very well done to set the correct mood for the story. How mother talks like a robot the whole time, and then at the end how she starts talking to you like a normal person right before she cuts your head off (much faster) was another subtle thing I noticed...there's really a lot more to unbox here and I think you should go back and see what those other memory leaks reveal to you.

Half way through I bagan to think of the Wes Craven '85 tv film "Chiller" starring Beatrice Straight and Michael Beck. A wealthy woman loses her son and has hin cryogenically frozen. He is revived and his body reanimates, but without his human soul. Something "other" inhabits the body. I was thinking this is somewhat the reverse. The parents aren't aware the daughter's soul is in with her memories, or whatever they managed to retrieve from her brain.

What a fantastic game. Honestly, I've already had the hunch that you're not human as early as 13:57, because of how you're describing the table like a grade-schooler (even to use a phrase such as "ingesting nutrients", makes it sound as if you're treating your meal like a robotic necessity). There were other things thrown here & there before that as well. Not being allowed to see your image in the mirror, your father not allowing to show his face (because he's an actual human and the discrepancy will show), etc. Add to that, time just moves on as you stand in one location, because you've bleeped out. And as much as I've loved what was done here, it breeds certain questions in my head: #1 The cause of death of the real Liana (probably shown in other endings?) #2 The backstory behind the family (back when they're all living as humans) #3 What's the deal with the brother (is he still human? Where has he been off to when he's not in his room?) And #4 Where is Liana's father taking you, now that you've forged a new path for yourself? Lastly, I gotta point out that nice small detail when you try to sleep in your bed and you're told that you can't sleep on it when somebody else is in the room. Even if you didn't see the mother or anyone else in there, the statement still holds true....... YOU are not the real Liana. So technically, you're that somebody else.

I'm honestly surprised you didn't play this one. Maybe I'm remembering someone else. Anyway glad you enjoyed the premise and storytelling. Excellent as always Chris and can't wait for the next vid.

What a great game, the story and presentation was awesome. All without a cheesey jump scare.
