A lot of mama's boys don't understand why they're depressed and it wasn't until I left home that I finally understood. Don't call your parents for help. GO THROUGH IT. Sometimes you'll go hungry, sometimes you'll mismanage your funds and end up sleeping on park bench. You NEED those lessons to be whole and you can't learn them in mama's basement playing Call of Duty all day. I wasn't depressed, I was a pussy.

Mother's love doesn't necessarily make men weak but a lack of fatherly influence and guidance does. There's a crucial point in a boy's life where he needs less time with mom and more with dad. Single motherhood has robbed many men of this.

It’s crazy how life works, this is essentially what I’ve been needing to hear for quite some time. I haven’t watched Elliots videos for awhile tbh but something told me to click on this one. And it helped open my eyes to the exact answers I was seeking. Stuff like this is the reason I am spiritual and believe in something greater than us. Stuff lines up too perfectly at times right when you need it. That’s it. Once my lease is up this summer I’m moving out and away from my hometown. Comfort has brought me nothing but pain and despair. I realize my mother is a factor in this. She means no harm of course...she just can’t help me anymore nor is it her job to as a woman. I love my mom a lot but being so close has become debilitating. Deep down I know I need her just to get by and I don’t like it. In order for me to become the man I really want to be I gotta leave alot of things behind for now, including her. I will never be able to properly give back to her how I want with the way things are going now. It’s a hard decision and a tough road ahead but I’m ready. I’m tired of my current life. I want to become the man I’ve been envisioning myself as for years

I broke away from my mother around the age of 17. I was raised by my mom and only saw my dad on weekends. I knew that the over exposure to my Mom through my teen years was causing problems, which ultimately led to me leaving. I went and lived with my dad, got a shitty job, starting training really hard, ate exclusively clean for months, trained for and did 2 half marathons 15 days apart. It was an incredible challenge for me at the time, but I ultimately craved it. Looking back, it was a very pivitol point in my life, and Elliott is 100% right when he says that every man has to do this. It’s a journey for each of us and different in every way, but ultimately we must seek out struggle and hardship, as it forges us into the man we’re meant to be. But just remember, the pursuit of difficulty and uncomfortable situations never ends, and it’s best to make friends with them, as they’re never going away.

I'm realizing this now. After working in another state and loving my life, I decided to move back into my parents' house after I got fired and got a new job near my parents (also very high/unaffordable rent in this area). I have an older brother on the autism spectrum (mild, not severe) in his 30s who just eats junk food all day using my moms debit card. No job, no education, he just eats cheeseburgers all day like a human vacuum. She keeps him comfortable and docile. He hasn’t improved at all in the last 10 years, in fact he’s degressed. He’s a food addict and he can’t sit still to focus on anything productive for more than a minute. My over-nurturing mother made him like this. I see the potential he has to be self sufficient, strong and competent but he chooses to chase dopamine all day and cling to his mom. He is a man-child mothers boy and I wish she could see that her love is actually hurting him. She’s fucked up his life with her parenting. Whenever I try to influence his productivity for the better and help him get some self worth she gets mad at me for taking him out of his comfort zone, so I’ve just stopped trying. My dad isn’t in the picture at all. The “over-nurturing” mother truly is a problem for a lot of males and this video truly hits home.

loving others at a distance is one way to set boundaries in Dysfunctional relationships the best lesson I’ve learned is discipline. The discipline may be asking for help from people outside your type of comfort you are familiar with the biggest lesson is forgiving yourself i’m taking full responsibility for all of self actions. Words are not just words they are part of a program that is connected between the human spirit subconscious mind and perception of the inner circumstance opposed to the external contact nobody Will take better care of you then you and when you become a whole person by being honest with yourself you will respect yourself and it will show others who you are rather than telling them what They think you are

Hm. Interesting topic. I think single fathers also can make men weak... We need both. But the real problem is to be able not to rely on validation and emotional suport from a careetaker all the time, dosent matter if its mom or dad i think... As men we need to be able to validate our own emotions... And get our needs met without mom or dad... I mean especially for an adult male... lol... Music is intrinsic to human culture, yes, but it serves an equal role as a drug because it allows you to cope with underlying issues in a manner that is not productive at all or very little. I almost never listen to music. I almost never listen to music driving or at home. Its very rare. Music is necessary but it needs to come in conjunction with real movement in the physical world. You can learn alot of things in the world without having to do certain things, but you will never truly understand the weight of that information without going into the world and experiencing it.

It’ll instill discipline, hard work, confidence and no time for BS. A man in his 20s living with his parents is not good at all. Best thing I ever did. Now, I’m 26. Every man I’ve came across that left home late displays very feminine traits. Too much complaining, too lazy, too many video games and p*rn, too weak and passive, lacking confidence, horrible with women, no goals or discipline. And, they are way too attached to and identify with their mothers. Save the excuses and be a man. Good luck.

Jordan Peterson also helped me come to this conclusion but this is 100% true. Once I began to realize and understand this, it helped a lot. I tried to join the marines but got rejected because of all my tattoos, though I was previously a D1 athlete. So I got into business school in Europe and left the day after I graduated. No savings nothing, working part time night shifts while going to school. Not going to lie it’s been pretty shitty thinking about the transition from all I used to have at my disposal. But man, I’m doing it. And I’m happy af. Some nights I don’t eat, some months a fuck up my budget but I swear I haven’t been as nearly as depressed as I was a couple years ago before I left. It’s a comforting idea to know that you can survive in the world alone and you walk with a different kind stride in your step when you go out and do it with no help. You will make it fellas, you will figure it out on the way. But take the leap.

Good thanks for sharing the marines and military are shit you do better off without them. That does not make you a man or better person you do. Most people I see come out of military are depressed and feel empty because they thought that would make them better. I bet you are twice the man in any military branch. You are more highly valuable and called for greater things.

Everything Elliot is saying is 100% facts. Living with my mom I had everything but was unhappy, depressed and lost, everyone thought I was lazy, I hated life. I started living in my car and I felt absolutely amazing, It sounds ridiculous but the more I suffered the more I felt like I was getting in touch with myself and even becoming more masculine. I'm starting to see things clearly and regret not doing this much earlier.

Used to watch you a lot Elliott, still much respect for you. You helped me through my late teens with some of your advice. That being said, it seems to be the case that most of your "guidance" recently is you justifying your own experience. Understandably, you wouldn't try to live a life that's counterintuitive to YOU but you need to recognize that your path is not the best one in all regards, and there are some things in life that though they weren't developed in your framework may be better suited and/or serve their own purpose in a way that's beneficial to some. It's like taking one of two paths and arriving at the end and since you've made it relatively unscathed saying "this was the best path for sure, I made it through" when there's certainly a possibility that the other path could've been just as fulfilling and successful if not more so. Just something to keep in mind. Hope it's going well for you in your pursuits & with your family.

a really creepy thing about this , is that the subconscious reason mothers are doing this to the son is to MAKE SURE that he doesn't become empowered as a man. that is the entire point of it all. they give him this motherly , feminine comfort and love. and blackmail him with it. "if you become empowered i will take this away". so it's not as innocent as it might seem.. this is incredibly true. and its something i wanted since i was 10 years old actually. i've been wanting to just run away and live in the forest or something.

It can be tough for those who have always relied on their parents to navigate the world on their own. However, it's important to understand that facing challenges and learning from mistakes is an essential part of personal growth. It may be difficult at first, but pushing through tough times and coming out stronger on the other side can provide a sense of accomplishment that cannot be achieved in the comfort of home. Don't let fear hold you back from experiencing life to its fullest potential.

The only problem with that black and white statement is the fact that the man or manchild will seek this kind of nurture/ talk/ attention from his sig other in life and she will have to play mommy for the big boy and seek a mommy figure, thus making him inversely even weaker and her dissatisfied. Look up the psychological concept of 'the devouring mother' . The whole thing is to forgive your actual mother and repair your relationship with her. There's a balance to it

It is human nature to seek comfort and security in our daily lives. However, when we remain within the confines of our comfort zones for too long, it can lead to boredom. Boredom can then become a catalyst for addiction, as we search for new ways to feel stimulated. The problem with addiction is that it can quickly turn into dependency. When we become dependent on something or someone, we lose our independence and sense of self-reliance. This can lead to weakness in character and ultimately, despair. Weak men are unable to cope with the challenges that life throws their way.

You guys know you can have a comfortable life and still be successful right? Causing yourself discomfort because you're sad just lowers you on the hierarchy of needs. It's much easier to feel content and fufilled when you're struggling with basic things. The real challenge comes when you've won or are already in a safe place. Then you need to find your purpose and deal with higher ordered problems. Nothing wrong with feeling comfort, there's a problem in thinking "sin" is real and rejecting your true feelings. Done
