Hello everyone! Thanks for watching this video. Unfortunately, this video was created using my former high school's synth - and because I no longer have access to it, I won't be able to create any other videos about the Motif. I just made this video for my friends who needed to learn how to play the synth at our school, so I'm sorry if I can't be of help with more advanced settings. But I mainly learned by reading the manual, so I'd suggest starting there! :)

How do you transpose voices in a performance? ( move a voice +1 octave in a performance)
@dankim2913 жыл бұрын
I think there's a couple of ways to do this. First, you could use the Octave Up/Down button, which would affect all voices and be a temporary change. You could also transpose globally(?) by going to Utility/General/Play and changing the Octave parameter or Transpose parameter (to change by semitone instead of 8ve) (Owner manual pg. 55). I wrote "global" because it would transpose no matter what patch, and it would stay in that transposed state until you went back and manually returned it to default values (even if you were to power off/on again, I believe). This would also affect all voices. You could also change the pitch bend wheel/reassign the ribbon to pitch bend and adjust the depth to reach an 8ve. On the patch you're on, go to Edit/Common/Cntrl Set and change the Depth value for the correct Source (Reference manual pg. 61). Again, I think this would change all voices. Lastly, you could try editing the Pitch parameters for the voice you're currently on by going to (while in voice mode) General/Play Mode (Reference manual pg. 55). This is the one method I haven't tried out (I just now read about it in the manuals), but hopefully, this will only change one voice and allow the other layers to stay non-transposed. Hope this helps !

@@dankim291 Thankyou! Also, I have a sustain pedal. It doesn't work with the piano voices but works with the string and synth patches on the motif? Any way to change that?
@dankim2913 жыл бұрын
That's strange...I'm not sure why that's happening, but I'd start by making sure the pedal is in the Foot Switch Sustain Port. If that doesn't work, then verify the pedal settings are right in Utility-General-Play-Sustain Pedal --- it most likely should be on FC3 (Half off), but try toggling btwn all settings to see if they make a difference (ref. manual pg. 219-220). If that still doesn't work, then you might want to do a comparison of one patch where sustain works and one that doesn't, so like the strings vs. piano. Check the settings under Edit-Common-General-Play Mode-Portamento (ref. man. 55), and also the settings under CtrlSet (ref man. pg. 61). Maybe comparing and spotting for differences in the portamento or the cntrl set sources will show you what's causing the pedal to not work in some cases. Hope this helps ! I also remember from past experience that some brands of pedals just don't want to work with Yamaha for some reason...

Thanks a lot Daniel. I must say, this has been one of the best XF 101 tutorial I've seen. It was very helpful.

How can I locate the ambient sound on motif xf8 🙏🙏😭
@dankim2912 жыл бұрын
Hi Dami, I haven't had access to a Motif in years, so I may not be the best person to help you, however, i'll try my best. If by ambient sounds, you're looking for pads, there should be plenty under the category of the same name (usa.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/3/325083/motifxf_en_dl_c0.pdf - use this link to search for instruments faster). If by ambient you mean non-instrumental, then you may have to download from online and install the ones you desire. Or perhaps by ambient sound ( not plural) you are referring to controlling an instruments reverb? Hope this helps!

Do multiple Strindberg CMC controllers work on Motif XF?
@dankim2913 жыл бұрын
I just read about it and I'm not sure if it can since there's only 1 device port

Any idea how to create a pulsating effect like when you hold down a triad it pulses it ¼ notes at a tap tempo?
@dankim2914 жыл бұрын
If you go to edit->common edit->ctrl set, you'll see the mod wheel and other controllers under sources. Under destinations, you should be able to search for the effect you're looking for. I've only used this twice to pitch bend or change volume using the ribbon controller. On the other hand, if you're looking for it to actually restrike quarter notes, maybe try looking under the arp settings. Here's a link about changing the controller effects - hope this helps: www.motifator.com/index.php/support/view/motif_xs_working_with_and_understanding_physical_controllers

Is there any option how to make a drum pad in yamaha motif xf8? If so can you please make a tutorial
@dankim2914 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, I didn't learn how to create any percussive patches. It's been a few years since I've touched a Motif synth. But I would suggest trying to hook up MainStage (or other DAWs) to the Motif instead of trying to program patches on the synth itself.

Can you do a video on saving and loading to the flash ram! The manual is so confusing as to how to set this up.
@dankim2914 жыл бұрын
I'm not really sure about flash rams. I've only saved and loaded some audio files via File->Audio. Sorry for the late response.
