Yes, I'm already doing it for sometime now! My windows laptop with GTX 1660ti was able to render a 5 min RAW video in just a few minutes and I did color correct and all as well. This maybe one of those things which M1 Pro isn't optimized for so it struggles a lot here and my laptop has even lesser RAM at 8GB not 16GB

I have an s22 ultra and a crappy $200 Motorola phone but it has a 50mp camera. The videos on both can be comparable. Like holy crap this app is amazing

Yes do it all the time, and the quality is fantastic using the Samsung S22 Ultra with MotionCam, the gap is closing rapidly!

Fast forward in 2024, motioncam app has been used by Samsung and Google to promote their phones. It also now record in mcrawlog, prores and hevc 10-bit. I’d also love if you can revisit this video with newer motioncam app v3 and with oneplus12 or oppo find x7 ultra

The folder of exported DNGs can be dragged to DaVinci Resolve and everything is handled like a single file. Then just auto color in the color space and some sharpening then export thats it. There is no need to process images in Lightroom at all.

I agree that the workflow can be hellish. But in exchange, I can potentially get comparable footage to my Sony mirrorless. So, I'd say it's a good trade-off in situations where I want maximum visual quality with minimum setup.

HI, about noise in motion cam footage.... there is a tool call motioncam tool for poc which convert file container to CinemaDNGs. while converting, there is noise reduction of 4 level. which has better noise reduction than in lightroom.

convert the video on your macbook , use davinci resolve for editing and your process will be 10x smoother , motioncam footage is just awesome with zero artifacts no compression i love it

The gap is closing in! I remember recording video with vidicons, the change to CCD and the added software to counter its low inherent contrast and of course software would correct the lens issues as well.

Xiaomi Poco X3 works too. For better performance without damaged frames use more RAM in settings and crop top and bottom. I using 3480x1920 with ISO 100 and 1/48 shutter speed.

I've found that using free open source blender software to sequence the raw dng files into a uncompressed avi video, gives the fastest and easiest raw video file that can than be fully graded with video edit software. Just FYI

Great video, Oleg! Finally! I remember asking of this test back in December 😊😊 Yeah, 7 Pro not the best to deliver this, but this workflow is much more easier recording that straight on SSD through usb-c to usb-c adapter and converting on windows pc. Davinci handles those raw cinema dng's on windows pc easily for me. Wonder why its more issue of stress on mac - it should be opposite:) For many asking which phone is best - i would say for 4K60fps raw is 1+8Pro / Mi 11 Ultra or Mi 10 Ultra. S20/S20FE with snapdragon 865 works very good too up 4K30fps. Also Oppo Find X3 Pro. Any new release of 2022 phones is very bad. Phone's are degrading in some way.

@@daxfitz Hi Dax, I can't say its best option, but the most of Advanced Mobile Video Recording group users come to conclusion that this is one of the best devices for it - recording RAW cinema dng videos with MotionCam. The OnePlus 8 Pro (and other 1+) devices actually are not the best overall for regular video recording because of internal limitations of device and 3rd party apps, however, somehow MC app is not blocked or limited for now (dont update to android 12!!). It can record 4K60fps raw video via main lens, can go even further with some modding (for example Mi 10 Ultra can go up 4K100fps with motion cam, then modded I would believe it could be able to squeeze up to 4K120fps even!). But Xiaomi has a limit to internal recording, and 1+8 Pro can record directly to SSD drive connected to phone via usb-c adapter (both ways). Other phone which can record 4K60fps with all the lens is Mi 11 Ultra. But now I found out that ZTE Nubia Z40Pro has 1/1.3" 64MP Sony IMX787 sensor, paired with 35mm lens with aperture of f1.65. Seems incredible lens setup, wonder if it can work with MotionCam app without big issues. Also phone has usb-c type 3.1 port - so SSD recording also possible, making it possible one of the most impressive mobile phones with main camera (only!) in mind to record videos. 35mm lens from first view of few reviews looks incredible with details and shallow dof.

It is truly amazing that we have progressed this far, this has honestly been a dream of mine for a long time. Based on specs (sensor size / lens combo) wouldnt you say that the MI 11 ultra is the most compatible and full featured phone to use with motioncam? Are there any documented issues with the Mi 11 ultra that you are aware of? How many sensors can I use with the 1+8 pro?

fair assessment, I think shooting with mcpro24fps is a better quality/workflow solution.

This has a point. I use motion cam only for very heavy scenes only. Or if good skind tone or correct colors needed. Otherwise mcpro24fps is very beautiful interface and advanced app, easy to work with and possibly best output except raw. But rooting and modding device to have low power encoder disabled can reach almost level of MotionCam without lot of hastle with MC.

Hei Gabriel - no S22 Ultra is quite bad with MotionCam. Big, but bad sensor with 9to1 nona binning - motion cam unveils its flaws. Also Samsungs internal limitations. Best output from Samsung is just "cheap" S20 FE with snapdragon processor :) Xperia phones also can be skipped.. So for other options it kinda leaves 1+ 8 Pro (9 Pro is worse..), Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra or 11 Ultra. I would be interested in Honor Magic 4 Ultimate edition, as it has same sensor of 1/1.12" type as Mi 11 Ulta, but much wider aperture of f1.6.. Just wonder if it has any limitations or not with MotionCam.. Because its Honor (Huawei).. For import the Nubia Z40 Pro with 35mm main lens would be interesting too to test if it works with MC

@@Gabriel-mi4sd No, sensor itself is bad. HM1, HM3 and even HM2 is bad for video.. Sensor size is important, but not only. Pixel size is very bad there, and binning helps only for photos. for photo's it relies on heavy processing and its quite fine tunned this generation. So S22 is good for photos as overall, but that kept on stock camera. I tried S22U by myself a little, nice phone, but for video it kept me away.. Also main lens too wide, 23mm - huge issues with RAW. Even more issues than mine's Mi 11U. And that one is superior in terms of sensor.

@@miesto_paukstis It would be fantastic if Apple, Samsung or any other big company developed a native raw video capability with great software and everything else. The problem is the digital sharpness, cause even the “raw” format from apple in the iPhones, from Samsung in the Galaxys and from google in the pixels are still treated with the noise reduction+sharpening, so it’s basically pointless…

Lightroom just removes details which makes it worse than just keeping all the noise. This thing needs temporal noise reduction.

Temporal noise reduction can be done with app devs external converter for windows or mac. Just select frame merging option (best from 4 to 8 depending on scene). Works quite well, leaving minor artifacts (shutter speed depends). Also slightly increases dynamic range. Love that it is less stress loading on system then doing noise reduction in Davinci, for example

This much workflow is so unnecessary. Use davinci resolve. You can even get better quality with less noise because davinci resolve is the only editor that debayers dng files correctly and it's free. That chroma noise its happening because small sensor but also bad debayer of files. Smartphones that have camera2api enabled can work with this app, but app is not optimized to work with all smartphones. I have Xiaomi mi a3 $150 My friend have realme 5 gt with bigger and better sensor and have more chroma noise in the shadows at lower iso.
