Hi, Just made this with 3 x AAA batteries and without the resistors. It works great with a short LED strip, but as soon as I connect a longer strip it just keeps turning on and off at will. Is this due to the lack of resistors or the power supply, or both?
@andychesaru6326 жыл бұрын
Something you did not mention,for this to work you will need a Logic Level MOSFET,that can activate at 5v. Most of the MOSFETs operate at 10 V,therefore a higher resistance appears. Other than that,great video! Love it.
@Grensom6 жыл бұрын
Yes you are right, I did not really mention anything about that in this video as it is important to know that in order to get this project to work. I have the link in my description linked to a logic level MOSFET, so hopefully people will look there for the part if they are unfamiliar with MOSFETs.

@Grensom5 жыл бұрын
Hi, basically the perfboard was just me putting the circuit from 2:30 onto a consolidated board. Perf board is the easiest way to do this. As for using this for cornhole, you may want to use a different sensor for detecting a cornhole bag. Passive motion sensors pick up infrared signals put off by body heat, so inanimate objects are not well detected.

How long will AA power the LED Strip?
@Grensom6 жыл бұрын
I guess it really depends on how many lights you are using, if you are using maybe 20 LEDs, at 20mA per LED, that is a total of 400mA. Now a normal AA battery has 2.8 Ampere Hours so -- 2.8/0.4 = 7 hours. So it looks like 7 hours continuously with AA batteries. I would suggest maybe using a 12V power supply instead though - less hassle. That's what I ended up doing.
@DavidHansen926 жыл бұрын
How would you incorporate a 12v power supply versus the AA batteries, assuming you have little to know experience in electrical wiring..asking for a friend lol XD Does the wiring schematic change or is it as easy as a simple swap?
@Grensom6 жыл бұрын
Its a simple swap. If you use the Power Supply I did: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019Q3U72M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It comes with a connector so all you need to do is wire in the red wire to the (+) screw terminal and the black wire into the (-) screw terminal and you are all set to go!
@DavidHansen926 жыл бұрын
Sweet figured it'd be fairly simple..legend!
@DavidHansen926 жыл бұрын
last question.. how hard is it to figure out that perf board portion of the build. Glazed over that fairly quickly and I imagine it's also fairly simple. Want to use this as an entry level project to get into this kind of stuff. Anything weird with how those work or how you have to hook all the components up to it. Appreciate the feedback.

Hey Grensom! Was trying this build on my own, with some adjustments: - 12v, 8.3a power source - same PIR module and 10k om resistor - P30NF10 mosfet n-channel transistor - datasheetspdf.com/pdf-file/712795/STMicroelectronics/P30NF10/1 - SMD 5050 RGB led strip with control box and RC (12v, 14.4W) Though PIR and transistor are working ok, I ended up having significant voltage drop (down to ~5v) at the control box terminals. Any ideas, where I messed up? Thanks!
