The therapy section alone (me fighting the artistic urge to ignore all references and literally redefine art itself, accomplishing only Ryan Gosling acting levels of depression) is worth that SMASH!!! The subject of the video is a welcome bonus, especially about layer styles. Thanks again, Cameron, for the reminder that it is not only me struggling with delusions.

2:30 Do not copy your layers! Add a solid layer - use Calculations to 'copy' your animated layer. Add your layer styles to this. If the client ever wants a change - you change your one master layer, instead of all the copies. Also you can get a gradient along a curve stroke by using a text layer, lots of ••• gradient ramp text animator selector range thingy with a fill RGB colour to give it the gradient - font colour is the other colour of the gradient, mask stroke on the text layer, aling text to mask path setting to on.

Hello, thanks for the tutorial ! Simple question here, at the begining your floor gradient layer doesn't seems to have effects applied. So what did you use to create this gradient that is outside the simple line ?

There are barely any tuts discussing how to texture / give volume to flat layers in AE. This Faux 3D i superb. Now, onto finding more styles. [I think the grainy look is mostly overdone. Wonder about more subtle methods where grain/noise are not so heavy looking]...

Question: Why do you have to apply different layer styles to duplicate versions of the same element? Why not applying them to the same layer? What is the advantage of making the timeline more complex than it need to be? ps: great video, i love that you're channel is constantly growing. Ready for 20k subs? 😁🔥

Great question! So, looking at this now, I see I could have made the style with two layers...my initial though was that I would want to change the position of the inner glow which I ended up not needing to. However, with the highlight I was using the same bevel and emboss layer style and you can't have two instances of a layer style. So, all the settings I changed for the highlight would have ruined my shadow...So, it was better to have that separate.
@simoneblax Жыл бұрын
@@MotionXP Great answer! Ahah thank you for explaining in detail. So having them separated give you better control of each layer style applied? I got the part where you explain that you can't have the same layer style applied twice, but except that, wouldn't you have the same control since you can modify each layer style individually?
@MotionXP Жыл бұрын
It really depends on what you are trying to achieve...if you can create the style without seperating layers you should...but if the style need separated layers then thats okay too. The preference, as you are suggesting, is to have less layers though!

I get where you are coming from and you're not wrong! My whole point with this video, however, was to showcase the power of layer styles...which are by no means limited to creating a 3D look. This was just an example of whats possible!
