Iam going through same thing, fetenol is so scary for a mom to hear, Iam wishing something would change for the better..my mental health has declined so much as they say I've lost myself and feel helpless ...been watching it's just not anything they want to hear..so lost in dealing with it .I wish the penalties were life sentence's for those who sell it..we deal with the outcome of this ongoing tragedy of our young souls..I wish I had those magical words to give...I don't..feeling helpless...

I will try this with my grown up son who I let stay with me temporarily but he’s not leaving or trying to get sober. He always says he’s got a plan…. My friends tell me to call the police and have him arrested for doing drugs in my home. I can’t I just can’t so I hope this will work for him. He is so defensive when I say please do not use drugs in my house! And we fight

Becoming sober was the best decision of my life. Some of my friends told me that I inspired them to go sober, too, and that was awesome. But, unfortunately, that only happened with a few friends. The majority of my (former) friend group has continued drinking and smoking cannabis, and I have had to discontinue my friendships as a result. I still care for these people and don't judge them, but I needed to separate from their company to cement my own sobriety. I needed to watch this video. Much appreciated your insight. Thank you! ❤

My daughter stopped speaking to me for 8 years after her stint in rehab. Now that she’s speaking to me again, on and off, talking about her addictions with her is very precarious. I sense she is aware but doesn’t want to give up the friends and lifestyle associated with the addiction, at the same time she has a 3 year old son. As careful as I am still results in her bouts of anger, shutting me out and bad mouthing me around town (guessing that is a protection mechanism of her addiction- her knowing that I know) I just found your videos. Hoping something will shift here. But if nothing else the videos help me know this is not all in my head. I am not crazy.

Hello and thank you so much for your videos! I’m having a hard time with motivating my significant other & positive reinforcement. They use while they’re at work and at night after I’ve gone to sleep. The only “consequence” of their drug abuse is that sometimes I react in a way that is sad and withdrawn... which contributes to their stress and urge to keep using. If they ask why I’m sad and I tell them, they get angry and say they aren’t using (when I respond by saying I know they’re still using, they say “I’m not using right now, am I?”). Even when I hide my feelings and the time we spend together is good/fun, they still use almost daily. I feel like I’m breaking my back trying to make our home a relaxing place and say things to boost their self esteem, but in the end they’re still depressed and stressed out and continue using. I honestly feel so lost about what to do.

How do I approach him with information? Like if I wanted to motivate him to watch your channel to get educated, what would be the best approach? I don't want to come at him like I'm trying to tell him what to do, and he says he wants to get better, but has never wanted to educate himself about addiction... which is understandable. I'm sure the last thing you want to hear as an addict is that your brain is rewired and you're detached from reality. But I just know if he could start to REALLY understand more how this works it would motivate him. Thank you so much for what you're doing by the way. Your channel is a lifesaver!

Hi Amber, I have a close friend who is very open with me about their drinking and offen there's a lot of change talk but also "reasons" why they can't get better or why others have e.g "well that person has a nice girlfriend so it was easier for them to give up" or "with the restrictions right now its harder to stop, I need to be around people but can't". Or "I can't do online support groups, I need to be face to face". I'm not sure how to get around these excuses and get him to the point where he will actually seek help.

Love your empathetic approach. One BIG thing you haven't addressed the financial issue. Some addicts contribute to family finances in many ways, not a lot of resources for a person or a family to dip into a money pot. You can't work and be in rehab. What's a family to do if no family financial network is out there to help Many are functionally enough to contribute somehow or have government's help. Please touch upon.

Hi Skyler, I usually hear from family members who want to send one of my videos to their addicted loved one, so this is different! If you're going to suggest a video of mine for your mom to watch, find one that talks about something she'd most likely agree with. Maybe send her one of my videos about the things that people with addictions do. That will be a better way to open the door. Tell you mom, you've been trying to learn about this problem, because you really do want to get better. Tell her you saw a really interesting video and ask if it's okay if you send it to her because you want to know what she thinks. (remember to pick a video that will make her feel heard/understood, not one that will make her feel defensive.)

Thank you for sharing knowledge. I want more info about the neuro linguistics aspect. My son is using meth, after many years of being clean. He is very intelligent, talented musician, but thinks meth makes him better. I know how deceitful that drug is, I have been clean from it for 12 years and am a leader and sponsor through Celebrate Recovery. Tough love, bargaining with him, does not work. He says he will not be controlled!! I have offered to help him get his life on track, financially , if he follows certain guidelines to get clean, goes to CR meetings, gets tested ect. He refused. Hi Vicki, you're soooooo right about meth being a deceitful drug. There are many drugs that make you FEEL smarter, faster, stronger, more creative, etc... but in reality it doesn't enhance your abilities. It just makes you FEEL like it makes you better. As far as motivating your son to take steps toward recovery, I recommend using CRAFT method and/or motivational interviewing techniques.

She interrupts the video to say hello to aj and tango-why? This isn't a live Q&A.

Hi Real Data. Actually this was a live stream. Typically some audience interaction is expected.

I disagree. During your explanations of a sensitive topic to thousands of anxiety ridden viewers you interupt everyone to say hi to two people. This is not during a live Q&A. It's during your video explanation. Why acknowledge 2 people at the expense of distracting thousands?

@@PutTheShovelDown ok. But when it's not a live stream video do you or do you not interupt all of your viewers to hello to a few viewers ?
