Feel kinda special to be the 100th person to like your video lol. You have some great content and I'm at a level for which it's perfectly suited so I'm really looking forward to your future videos. I just finished RTK after an embarrassingly long amount of time while immersing casually at the side. Starting with Genki 1, 単語 N5 and a gazillion other things that interest me now. It's really exciting! :) If you or anyone reading this ever get demotivated with the 'goals' approach, do check out this video which contrasts it to the 'systems' approach - it's under 5 minutes long and an amazing piece of knowledge that could help you throughout life. I only wish it didn;t have the obnoxious/edgy thumbnail. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKjGfIePq9qjgNk Good luck with your studies, I'll be following along!

Aw thank you and congrats on being number 100!! I remember being in your exact position having so many resources to be excited about and not knowing where to start or how to use them so I hope my videos will help you out 😁 Also yes setting systems are really great and help you achieve consistency! I use goal setting more as a benchmark so I can then figure out what it is I need to do each day. If anyone wants to know more about that definitely check out the video @Halcyon linked above 👆👆

These videos are so damn high-quality. I'm seriously impressed, especially after seeing you've only been uploading for about two months! Glad I stumbled across your channel. I've given learning Japanese a few shots over the years, but this is the first time where I've actually had some sense of structure while doing so and it's already helping *immensely.* Thanks so much for doin' what you're doin'. (Also, I saw you mentioned the possibility of streaming Japanese Stardew in another comment. I think seeing your learning process like that could be a really cool way to demonstrate some of the things you've talked about in these videos, as well as maybe let some viewers learn a little Japanese along with you. Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in on that one, heh)

Ahh what a lovely comment to start my day! I'm so glad you're finding it helpful and thank you for the kind words 🥰 When I started learning, I was also searching for some structure to follow but could only find it in bits in pieces spread across the internet, so I'm doing my best to try and pull it all into one place that's easy to digest! And thank you for the feedback on Stardew! It's already a pretty slow-paced game, and I'm even slower with it being in Japanese, so I wasn't sure if there would be interest. But now I'll definitely do it in the near future, now to just figure out how live streaming works... 🤔😄

Hell yes to changing things up!! Embracing experimentation has been the hugest thing for my Japanese and for my growth as a person in general! It's so easy to get stuck in something that doesn't work for YOU personally and to then feel really down on yourself.

I’m just having trouble finishing Genki. I was taking a class at the library. They were more like a study group. But the person running the group was like a teacher. They used the Genki series. They disbanded after two years. The library was charging them for the room. I got to lesson 8 of Genki. After they disbanded, I was finding it hard to keep up with the book series. I feel more motivated in a classroom setting. It pushes me to want to do the work by keeping up with the class. However self study is extremely hard for me to stay motivated.

I’ve been learning Japanese for about 11 months now and I’ve recently discovered that the best way for me to study is through a method I like to call “cram and digest” I’ll do this with anki too but for the most part I do it with immersion. For anki I basically just do 100 new cards and “digest” it throughout the week. However with immersion I do it a bit differently. Basically I’ll read a chapter of a book or watch an episode of a show and look up all the words I don’t know in Jisho and put them in sorted folders. Then I’ll spend some time getting acquainted with the word and such. Then I’ll reread or rewatch the material until I understand it completely. Even though it takes more work than anki, I’ve learned things much quicker and thoroughly due to context. It’s honestly so much more effective than consistently doing a little bit of new vocab everyday but that’s just me. In this week alone there’s been maybe 200 or so context words (all from sentence mining from books) that I’ve been working on “digesting” If you’re like me and suck at doing things on a consistent basis and you get bored and sidetracked easily, I highly recommend it.

I'm using RTK but I'm just doing their Anki decks. I know maybe.. 800ish reliably after 2 months which I felt like was insane (my goal was 1000 in four months). I'm a bit skeptical about it being possible to learn that many kanji that quickly unless you're already a natural born genius. Which I am very much not. 😅

@@AliviasNook Can I pick your brain a bit? 🤔 I think I am going to pick up my Japanese learning. I want to study once a week but incorporate my entire day(active, dead time, commute etc.) learning something. Any advice of what you would do if you could only study once a week? Any advice would be appreciated. 👍🏼☺️
@AliviasNook3 жыл бұрын
Hmm I’d say that doing a bit each day would be easier than more time once a week, just bc it’ll be harder to build memory week-to-week. But if once a week is all you have to work with I’d still recommend doing the same type of thing I was doing each day, but only increase time in the immersion and grammar study departments. Don’t try cramming extra vocab or kanji, because I’ve found there’s really a cap to how much you can do in a day and you’ll start getting diminishing returns. Better to put the time into listening, watching or reading!
@ErnieV763 жыл бұрын
@@AliviasNook Ok, Two days a week. 😁 I am so immersed in Italian that I don’t want to hinder my progress. I don’t mind reviewing things over and over if I have to. I have no time frame so repetition is probably good. Italian is so different than Japanese so I’m not afraid to mix them up. I’ll rewatch your videos and see your routines and resources. Listening, watching and reading it is! Thank you! 👍🏼☺️
