Focus on one small surface and get it cleared off (even if you just put the stuff in a box). Quick, visible win... and some breathing space.

When any dirty dishes pile up I put them in a plastic tub to get them out of my sink space. Lazy tip #1 (quick win) lol. Like things can get crazy in the kitchen where I’d have to be cleaning it 2 or 3x a day. It’s like clean cook clean cook cat feeding frenzy and so on. (If you’ve ever had lots of meat on your hands and seen a horde of cats go crazy and make a huge mess...😅😅). some days I’ve just had enough. I don’t have to use the tub a lot but there are times. Lol. Your kitchen doesn’t look very dirty to me. Just a bit cluttered lol. Great finish.

Honestly I think dish soap is the way forward in terms of cleaning. If it's good enough for dishes it's good enough for almost everything else!

I use dishwashing soap for most cleaning jobs. If you dilute it in warm water, it's a brilliant window cleaner and it's great for streak free cleaning in the bathroom.
Жыл бұрын
Dish soap is still full of chemicals. Not good to clean up everything if you have pets and/or young children. I have replace all cleaning products including washing products, hand soap, shower gels, shampoo, dog shampoo... and use liquid organic Castille soap. It works well for absolutely everything. It's easy to use, can be diluted at different concentrations for different jobs. For cleaning any messes, you just need to spray surfaces, let sit 30 seconds up to 5 minutes depending of how dirty, greasy, caked... is the mess and then just wipe down. No scrubbing needed. I get my soap in 25 litres containers from a local manufacturer. First time, I bought 25 one litre Amber glass jars and had them pouring the soap in it. Now I just buy the 25 litres container and once soap is poured into the glass jars, I use the container as planter.

@ news flash, Castile soap is also “full of chemicals” cuz everything is a chemical, even water. And being unable to pronounce something also doesn’t make it bad. OoOoOo ~dihydrogen monoxide~

I love your videos they give me motivation to declutter. Especially with the holidays coming up I do not want extra stuff piling on my extra clutter. My 4 year old is definitely going through the dump stuff and leave it phase since she started child care. Some stuff is difficult to get rid of because the 5 year age gaps between my daughters.

I put my dish soap in a spray bottle. About 2 to 4 part soap to 20 part distilled water and use that for dishes and counters.

Your kitchen looks good now. I myself would use big containers to carry items to other places cause of back issues. And I’m lazy. Haha
@devlandiablo
@devlandiablo Жыл бұрын
A laundry basket is good for that- good handles, hip cut out, rollable is an option, and it being hard plastic means it can be sanitized easily, and if it gets broken, it's not the end of the world. They can be labeled, and someone else can do the carrying for you maybe?
@HowToGYST

Definitely an option, and one I sometimes employ. But for bigger tasks like this I know I'll end up with lots of piles, which means lots of containers. It's quicker for me in this case to do without.

I agree with you about water and a good cloth for most cleaning, however, I also follow the path of least resistance and wipe down my table and counters when I finish washing my dishes, so I use my dish water for that. The only cleaning supplies I have are Pledge, Windex, Clorox wipes, and Dawn Power Wash. The DPW is absolutely awesome for stuck on dishes, but it also works great for cleaning the tub/shower and it doesn't leave a slick residue after rinsing, so no worries about slips if someone needs to shower immediately. Also, Dana K White, another channel I follow, has a decluttering system called "Decluttering at the Speed of Life" where one of the steps is "take it there now." By doing that, you eliminate your last step of dealing with the piles, and if you get interrupted or run out of time, there is no additional mess to clean. I see the benefits of both, and use a combination of "piling" and "take it there now" where I put my "piles" in a container of some sort that can be taken all at once where it needs to go. That way, if I don't get to finish for whatever reason, the remaining "mess" is "contained." Your kitchen looks fabulous btw!

That hornet and wasp spray range can be too short for those of us severely allergic. Takes 5 stings to have me throwing up and passing out so the more distance to spray the angry attacker the better.

Have you been in my house? My kitchen keeps getting worse and worse because I know it's going to take a long time and I'm overwhelmed just looking at it. If I start with the kitchen table, that's an easier win and it will give me a place to put the piles of things that need to go somewhere else in the house.

My messes like those that belong in other places disappeared when I made the conscious decision to put things away where they belonged and not into piles. I still have a pile of papers but it is in a drawer not visible. I touch something once. I may put more steps in during the day but I am not looking at something over and over. This gave me so much mental clarity. I could breathe again and not stressed.

@@HowToGYST Sorry I lost the battle with my husband and have picked up after him still. But I'm happy to say that my 4 children learned early to take care of their things and to be accountable for their organization. I'm proud to say that they all graduated from college and have successful careers. Their children are also learning to be neat and organized too. That's your mom job and I decided that I wasn't going to be my husband's mom.

My husband and I got married in 2020 (something good had to come out of 2020, right?!). He was renting a 2 bedroom house and I was renting a 2 bedroom duplex apartment at the time. He moved his 2 bedroom house into my 2 bedroom apartment (we are from different cities 2 hours apart and his company promoted him to management where I/we live), and the laws of physics... We are in the same boat. We want to buy a house bc this apartment is exploding with both of our stuff, but we don't want to have to sell a kidney to be able to afford it! We are in the process of saving for a down payment, but delayed gratification is getting harder, especially when both of us have decluttered quite a bit already and what we have left is what we use and need. We've just literally run out of room(s)!
