Millions of people experience tinnitus in different degrees, some are louder than others. Tinnitus is the perception of sound when no actual external noise is present. While it is commonly referred to as “ringing in the ears,” tinnitus can manifest many different perceptions of sound, including buzzing, hissing, whistling, swooshing, and clicking. For some, it can lead to insomnia, difficulty with concentration, poor work or school performance, irritability, anxiety, and depression.

If these types of techniques are not working for you then it's more likely that your tinnitus could be related to hearing loss and not an ear nose or throat issue but I'm not a doctor just someone who has some tinnitus also. Definitely try and see an audiologist in your area.

I am 86 years old and got Tinnitus at age of 20 while working in a factory. I have had tinnitus for 66 years. Sounds like standing near a jumbo jet with its engines roaring, whistles, and other noises. It’s never bothered me. The cure for tinnitus is to get it out of your mind. Forget about it and live with it. Have you noticed you are unaware of it when you are doing something interesting? Pay more attention to what you are doing in everyday life rather than dwelling on the sounds your ears make.

I clicked this video mostly because I wanted to check what his advice was. I had some problems with tinnitus for a few weeks some years ago but not anymore. Sadly he didn't mention one thing that was actually helping me a lot. The problem that I had - which I created myself - was how I was positioning my shoulders. There are a lot of nerves running along your shoulders up to your head. And if you constantly put yourself in a bad position where you press your shoulders forward (maybe while using the computer for hours), it can somehow block some of these nerves or put extra pressure on them. After wearing a belt that helps me maintain a healthy shoulder position, the noise that I had for a few weeks in one of my ears was entirely gone from one day to the other. So yeah... consider that this might be one of the reasons that you are often facing waves of tinnitus. Make sure your shoulders are in a healthy position ! I don't know how helpful his tips are - lots of people in the comments seem to praise what he told in this video - but it's a bit sad to see he didn't mention this. Hope I can help a few people by adding this bit of information.

You will find that lots of Dr Mandell’s videos overlap with each other, I recommend that you watch his videos that refer to posture. It is extremely rare for posture to cause tinnitus so I think you should watch everything you can find on the spine - maybe even try some yoga.
@catlady506
@catlady506 3 ай бұрын
That is a good suggestion. I was a secretary for 30 years. It is important to keep your shoulders in a good position and your neck in alignment. I did that every day and made sure I was sitting correctly. Thank you for mentioning it.

@Laserstormelpies

@@two6sep yeah, my ears are doing fine. I do sometimes have an unhealthy posture and notice upcoming problems not only on my ears, but usually bringing my body back into a healthy posture right as I notice something coming up, it can help to keep these things away. So the importance of good posture for the entirety of the body is always there. I never found myself in a situation with something like several-day-long tinnitus again after I paid more attention to a healthy shoulder position.

Peter Lynch 1 hour ago Hey Doc, I fixed my Tinnitus. Basically ur ear sucks in trying to protect itself from noise etc. So all the tiny bones get out of alignment. It took about two months and working daily on it to massage and stretch the ear back into the original shape. I used coconut oil and went skillfully deep into the ear hole starting stretching pressing and opening. I searched and pressed deep into all parts of the ear releasing tension. It helps to know and do some nostril breath work to undo stress in the tissue. I also found behind the ear where it joins to the skull their was tenderness and tension and I worked diligently in those areas. Think about it. The ear got whacked hard with sound so it needs to be put back into position. Look at it like that. Learn to do the massage work. Granted I have nimble fingers as I play classical guitar and practice yoga so I have a leg up but this can be done. Also, on KZbin there are om chanting tracks at 528 hz that are several hours and work like a charm. Never say something cannot be healed, we just don't understand how to do it. I had it and was suicidal after a solid month or so of non stop noise. I had to figure it out. You can be a healer. I'm in in south Florida if ur in the are I can show u my technique. All the best. 👍🤗

I agree…you have to get it out of your mind. To date, there’s no cure. You have to teach yourself not to actively listen to the “brain noise.” I noticed it after a surgery while recuperating. Most times now, I don’t even hear it - by keeping busy, listening to soft music, reading or being otherwise occupied. You must learn to “manage” it. Prayers for all suffering with this.

Mine started the first time 5 yrs ago with a head cold. I was able to get almost gone. Then I got an ear infection in my left ear and the ringing is back. Another piece of advice is to train your brain to ignore the sound. Look up breathing meditation. When I go to bed I practice my breathing and my brain completely removes the sounds.

After almost forty years of excruciating tinnitus, that actually causes physical, as well as aural pain, just the time it took to complete these exercises as you went through them, has given me some relief .The only suggestion over the years, was to live with it. The noises are still there, but no longer physical, and much diminished. These will be my daily exercises to try to reduce the screaming bells and whistles, as much as possible. Thank you so much, Dr. Mandell, this has the promise of being a sanity saver.

It's midnight, and there is a whole swarm of cicadas screaming in my head, along with the whooshing of my pulse, which is also quite physical, then there's the frantic, high pitched squeal, behind the whole lot. It is so frustrating to have no release from it. It started when my youngest child was 12, she has just turned 50, and still no relief. Granted it is louder at night. Wish I knew what started it.

Hello! I did it every morning after breakfast. I also combined kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKW2c5usqZmpY6c&lc=UgxjvxRIFkNdzRGmwFR4AaABAg.9h2hs-VzQ5q9lGZn_G3-kK meditation and tapping. All of this in about 20-25 minutes, TM meditation being almost 20 minutes. I also tried to retrain my mind regarding the sound as "uncomfortable" to labeling it differently. For example, I would start saying: tinnitus feels like"tickles" or a warm feeling" or something similar to goosebumps feeling.. Nightime was challenging. Get a good sound machine and I can recommend if you like. Start thinking of it differently. I think this concept is called "mental plasticity". It took me less than a month for tinnitus to stop. I hope this makes sense. I don't do the exercises now, ( although I do meditate from time to time) and I gained a great deal of confidence mentally and it correlates to my inner peace. Meditation, journaling, anything to find peace in your mind and heart will lead to better results in my opinion. I was very stressed and I read that tinnitus happens mostly when we are going thru great mental stress. When I had tinnitus, I also end up having all kinds of testing, ENTs, MRI, blood work, immunology, rheumatology until one doctor suggested journaling and meditation. I hope you find your journey and that it goes away soon. It will, lets' start thinking this way. :)

I've had tinnitus from loud music since 1999. Habituation is the only thing that has brought relief over the years. I've had 2 setbacks in the last 3 years which was very difficult to come to terms with. BUT I also recently realised my ears had wax buildup. I was slowly going deaf and my brain was ramping up the signal, so the ringing was louder. Removing the wax improved my hearing and my brain turned the volume down again which definitely brought relief. I recommend getting your ears checked for wax...

After a few months it was manageable, and diminished to a point, but was always still there. Two weeks ago, on my birthday, I went out and stayed up close too close to the band for too long. Yes, I should have been wearing my plugs, but didn’t, stupid. My tinnitus went through the roof, maybe worse than ever. For ten days I couldn’t concentrate, and could only focus on the noise. I measured it as about 7400 Mz at a decent volume. Four days ago I found this video and have been doing these exercises twice daily. I can still hear the high pitched sound in my right ear after doing all of these. I didn’t have this condition until 1993. I was at a night club. The band was not playing. I was walking by an 8 foot speaker with a friend and just as I got smack in front of the speaker the guitarist ripped a chord with his electric guitar. It was extremely loud! I felt enormous pain in my right ear. It felt like a muscle inside was vibrating for a few seconds. I left the club shortly thereafter and my ears were ringing from the loud music inside the club. I went to bed with the ringing in my ears thinking it would go away in the morning. It disappeared from my left ear but my right ear has had the constant ringing ever since. It’s never gone away no matter how many techniques I’ve tried. I had a hearing test and was told I had 25% less hearing in my right ear. I regret ever going to that club. It permanently damaged my ear and caused me grief for the rest of my life. Thanks for this technique Dr. Mandell. I’m glad it works with some people. Mine seems permanent no matter what I do.

I wanted to come back to report that it is getting better. Years ago I had it too. I kept crying, and reading the comments didn't really help I was afraid it would never end. The first thing you can do is accept that the sound is there just like there are other sounds from outside but you don't pay much attention to that, so why now? Sleep the first few nights or weeks months, whatever is comfortable for you with a relaxing sound and try to accept that the sound is there and it's just a sound. Then you try to sleep without the relaxing sound. Now 9 times out of 10 I don't hear anything or I'm not thinking about i it at all and when I hear it it doesn't bother me anymore. Because when will it ever be completely 100% quiet? This worked for me and I really hope it can work for someone else too. Also check whether there is an underlying problem behind it, usually this is the case. For me it was because of my fibromyalgia and jaw dysfunction everything is connected. Try to work on your underlying problems. I wish you all the best!

OMG!! I hurt my ears in construction. Hammering metal against metal for about 6 hours. That was about 10 years ago. I have had bad ringing since then. I had adjusted to it so it didn't bother me all that much. After doing all these movements just in the time of the video running. The ringing is almost completely gone. All those years and it was this easy to repair. I will be doing this every day now. I can't thank you enough doc!

I'm always a bit of a skeptic with this stuff, but I still did this, because to me it actually makes sense, the way you showed us. I quickly noticed a notable reduction (obviously not a complete eradication of, but a reduction nonetheless) of my tinnitus, but also something directly relative to the explanation in this video also occurred. For the first time in longer than I can remember now, I can actually breathe through my nose!!! Between my deviated septum (caused by a broken nose ~20 years ago) and one of my nasal passages (the one into which the septum and broken part push, of course - cause why couldn't it have been in the other direction, right?), my nasal breathing capability has been drastically low for at least a good 10-15+ years now. Add allergies to that, and you can just fathom how it impacts my daily life, in addition to other issues which I deal with. Anyway, I did the exercises roughly a half hour ago, then had to blow my nose to clear the drainage, and I am now STILL able to breathe almost entirely "normally" again! All that I can say now, is THANK YOU.

I broke my nose years ago. Thankfully, my bones were still lined up, but it gave me a deviated septum. I had surgery all scheduled & got to thinking "If braces can move my teeth over time, can I push this soft tissue of a septum over by pushing on it with my finger?" So I tried it. Every spare moment I had, I pushed as hard as I comfortably could for as long as I could. After a week, it looked normal & my drainage was back to normal. I had the doc examine me and he said it's all good now. I told him what I did and he actually said "Yeah, a fellow student in my medical school did that for a paper he wrote. He pushed it to one side. Then to the other side." I thought "You dummy! You were going to cut me up, stuff gauze up my nose for weeks while I healed, and you knew this easy, pain free procedure this whole time!!!" I held my tongue though. I was young. I wouldn't these days though. I don't know if that will work in every case, but I hope it helps.

@@DMNKLR_official Actually, I pushed from the outside. My thumb was pushing on the outside skin of my nostril. I didn't shove anything in my nose. The outer part was flexible enough it always bounced back but the septum was stiff enough to stay shoved over a tiny bit each time. Not perceptible each time, but over a few days it was.

@@timmiller1745 Hi Tim, Would you be kind enough to make a short video of how actually you pushed you deviated septum and send us a link . I've had deviated septum for years and I cancelled my surgery last year because my doctor said I can't guarantee it will solve your breathing problem. Four weeks ago I developed tinnitus ,don't know if the cause is my deviated septum or the covid vaccine I got 6 weeks ago. I will try with pushing on my deviated septum, hopefully my tinnitus will stop. Thanks for sharing your story.

I am 73. I’ve had tinnitus past 20 years, sometimes very noisy and others I’m aware of it but not too intrusive. Since I’ve done a combination of exercises covered in 5 videos I can reach a place where it’s not bothering me at all. Eventually it reappears so I notice it. Then I do a series of same exercises and it can disappear again. So Dr Mandel has given me power over the tinnitus where I have more control than it does of me. It’s not cured but has taken the edge off of crazy. I really love his videos for being simple yet powerful.

I still get agitated by certain high frequency sounds but hopefully its easier to sing now using these techniques.
