Displacing by an 8th you really can change the swing feel of the original rhythm of the motif. From syncopation to non syncopation and back. Serious brain work!

michel DINDAINE thank you. Yea the issue with today’s KZbin/Instagram etc is the old videos you release - don’t even matter anymore or exist. I feel like if I never released another video in my life, and people just watched the 40 videos I have, it would give them better education than college Hahahah My fear is - if I make many new videos, the old videos will be buried under, and no one will ever see them. Even though the old videos are really helpful, i think. Having said that, I will of course release new ones :) filming the next video tomorrow. Thank you for watching, my friend. I hope you found some helpful ideas and tips in these videos!

@@ruslanpiano So much more than helpfull !! because the way you define all the music component and most of all that unique way that you have to assemble them in order to do meaningfull practice ideas is already totally changing my own view of practicing my electric bass and approach of music. talking about videos, isn't there away at all to save them as long as you release new ones ? because these videos are gold mines and you can't allow desapearence. But again as we say here in France: BRAVO MONSIEUR !!!!

michel DINDAINE Thank you, my friend. Yes yes, the videos will stay saved. But with the amount of videos i have to make all the time in order to stay relevant on KZbin - the old videos will drown under the new ones. I mean. when was the last time you went on a KZbin channel and watched a video there from 3 years ago? The old videos stay saved but they drown in the non-stop new videos that a KZbinr has to make in order to stay RELEVANT in the KZbin search engine. My hope is that through “search words” my old videos will still be found by people. And, of course, I will continue releasing new ones! I had many good ideas for videos and I put them all into practice. I hope I can find more meaningful concepts to make videos instead of releasing less good videos, just to stay relevant on KZbin. I really appreciate the time you took to watch them. I hope more people will. Au Revoir :))

How do you keep track of where you are in a measure when you are displacing a motif? Are you constantly counting or can you just "feel" where you are?
@ruslanpiano
@ruslanpiano 5 жыл бұрын
rachelsmename After about 25 years of doing this, i can pretty much just feel where I am. But that doesn’t mean I can displace anything instantly. While no form of phrasing throws me off of where the One of the bar is, sometimes I do have to stop and figure out how a phrase will sound displaced. Especially when it’s being displaced by an ODD number of 8th notes, like the displacements I did in the second half of this video.

Hey Ruslan, great lesson! i was wondering, instead of playing motif-> development -> new motif->development and so on, how would you go about using different motifs from a tune and building up to a climax? i hope the question makes, thanks in advance :)
@ruslanpiano
@ruslanpiano 5 жыл бұрын
Suyog Sng You would use motifs from a tune in the exact way you would use any other motif. You state it, develop it. Play something different. Then come back to the same motif a few bars later. Then play another development of it etc. another thing to remember is - it’s cool developing a motif for a WHILE, and not just motif -> development -> new motif. It can be motif -> development -> development -> new motif -> back to old motif -> another development of old motif etc etc. This brings me into some advanced motivic development and I’ll make videos on that too! But yes, definitely using motifs from the song in your solo is a very good idea, because it grounds the solo to the actual song you are playing and references the melody!
