@@MartinBellamyMBDrums , youre most welcome. ;) In my opinion , youre absolutely right. The song itself is not a super well known one- but it certainly should be. From a drumming perspective....its just such a great song. Ive been drumming for 36 years ( 21 of them , professionally), and have not yet ever sat down to jam it out, but want to very badly after hearing the song again for the first time since age 10 or so. Back then in those days We didn't have double kick pedals we just had double kick drums with a peddle on each kicked drum. But now in these days with our ghost pedals, etc... That particular rhythm and pattern that he originally recorded on his kick drums is one that I am really looking forward to just sitting down fresh out the gate and seeing where I'm at. Typically I can listen to a song one single time regardless of genre, etc and usually just nail it. But that particular kick drum pattern looks like it might be a little bit of a challenge For a change.... But also the kind of pattern that once a person catches the rhythm on it and finds their balance as they are playing from the throne..... That it would be a very very fun one to just absolutely rock out on. I haven't studied it closely yet but it looks Borderline Intricate And challenging.... And that's the kind of stuff I really like playing. Anyway, I think you did a phenomenal job on the cover and ,my hat is off to you. Quite honestly I think you did a better job on the cover then Tommy did with the original recording quite frankly. Keep rocking! ;)

@MartinBellamyMBDrums3 жыл бұрын
Thats Awesome!! Welcome to the double bass club! I can tell you that it took a while, I was predominantly a single bass player for YEARS! Maiden, Zeppelin Guns and roses, etc etc. in fact im still learning double bass and its been the better part of 12-14 years with pedals. I can say, don't be discouraged! work slowly towards goals. A metronome App on your pnone is really great to practice with! just slowly increase the tempo in increments or a few minutes until it gets a little sloppy. Then one you hear yourself off beat. slow the tempo down Or start over! It's a process and it certainly takes time for sure, so just keep on practicing! For some impressive quick stuff, you can do an easy 16th triplet into the beat. Right Bass, Left Bass, Right Bass, Snare + crash It's used pretty frequently in rock and metal with double bass Let me know if you have any other questions!! Id be happy to answer!

Great cover! I know you listed the gear you used but I’m curious what sticks you’re using in this video? I just bought a pair of Promark Active Grip sticks and your sticks kind of look like those. Also are the tips wood or nylon?
@MartinBellamyMBDrums2 жыл бұрын
Hey great question!! Those were the portnoy active grips! A great stick! But they were really used in this video, you can tell that all the coating had worn off from rimshots on the snare and cymbal hits. I’m usually a wood tip guy, but I’ve been enjoying the Ahead Lars sticks recently. And I typically play a 5B. 2B’s for Zeppelin, because it demands a heavier hit :P What’s your go to stick??
@gtdrummer64292 жыл бұрын
@@MartinBellamyMBDrums My new Promark Active Grip sticks are also the Mike Portnoy signature version lol. For a long time I used the Vic Firth American Classic Rock with nylon tips. I love that they’re a little longer than typical drumsticks and I love the power because they’re a 2B stick but I feel I have better speed and control with 5B sticks. I recently discovered the Mike Portnoy sticks, as I pointed out, and love them, but I wish they came in nylon tip. I kind of prefer nylon because the tip maintains a crisp clear sound and doesn’t wear down and get dull sounding like wood tips tend to do, at least that’s my experience anyway. How did the tips on your Portnoy sticks hold up? Oh, and I’ve never tried the Ahead sticks but I’ve always been curious about them. I might have to buy a pair of the Lars sticks sometime and try them out. What size are they?
