not really. it's the sweet spot for a naked maby but not a sport bike. to low power

@@rampage3337 So you like to ride around in 1st gear and second gear most of the time then? Because you do that with ZX6 and bigger. In the city, you will never get it out of first gear unless you have a death wish. Its overkill. No different than having a Dodge Challenger with 600+ HP for a daily vehicle. Its pointless. I believe in freedom. You are free to do it. Its just pointless to do so.

Absolute perfect power for street use.

@@spartanx169x I disagree. I had a 2016 675 street triple making around 105 hp and yes, if you constantly rev it out of course you’ll be doing illegal speeds, but if you like riding around on torque you can definitely handle more power. We also have some fast twisties around here and there have been plenty of corners where I could’ve used more pull to get out of a corner. I personally would say around 120-130 hp is the sweetspot for road use.

@@juliusjacob1416 but a street triple isn't a sport bike, it's a naked. Most sport bikes are +120 and the RS660 comes under, but it's still very usable power.

Great video as always, mate! I purchased a heavily discounted new RS660 just after last Christmas 2022 & love everything about the bike! The looks, the tech, the handling! Only one problem; I’m still running her in so can’t unleash that top end power yet! My favourite bit in the 120 miles I’ve done so far is the cruise control, which is fantastic & a useful feature on a middle weight sports bike! And I’m definitely going to fit a tail tidy from Evotech to make it look even more awesome! ❤️😎👍

I almost got an RS660 but I ended up spending just a tiny bit less by getting a used 2019 Ducati Supersport S with low milage and perfect service history. I think new RS vs used Supersport S is a nice comparison. A lot of the other comparisons I find a bit dull because the Aprilia is much better for just a bit more money

Depends, it's hot when it gets upwards of 25C here in Norway. But only hot for your legs, the bike is fine. And only at standstill. If you do 10km/h and above you dont notice it. Also leather riding gear makes it less noticable. I feel it mostly when using riding jeans. I love the bike and I'm used to older aircooled Ducati's so I dont mind. Also I have the full Akra on mine with undertail pipes. Those give of a little heat, but not in a bad way at all

Iam really glad I bought an rs 660. The 100 HP are more than enough for dayly use and some tours on the weekends the power is there when it needs to be. Even traffic is comfortable, the only downside I experienced is that you need some additional parts, but tbh this is like it with Évry bike I for myself got heated grips a different licence plate holder the navigation system it's worth it in my opinion but really different to normal motorcycle navigation or google maps and a lower suspension all in all iam so glad I got the rs 660 over the R1 the only thing that is a bit of a pain is finding neutral. This comes from someone who loves super sport bikes so be aware but I would say the rs is a good touring bike tours around 5 to 6 hours are really comfortable in comparison to the R1 or S1000 RR my longest tour was around 500km in one go. My back needet some stretching but all in all I was pretty fit afterwards.

For many years Aprlia have made the most beautiful looking bikes. To me that is an all round desirable bike. I have never had a modern bike with all the electronic gizmo's. Never tried switching modes. Traction control, Quick shifters, Nothing. Still ride. I have two bikes. Not sure how I would get on with all the technology. But it would be nice to try on that.
@180FiftyFive
@180FiftyFive Жыл бұрын
i test rode a shiver 750 i wanted to buy. it had rain and other power modes. i'd say power modes are stupid unless youre riding a 150+hp bike. ABS is good in the rain and traction control can save you from slides. definitely worth it if you take risks. quick shifter seems pointless. if youre racing you can do clutchless upshifting anyway. and if youre sensible and skilled you can honestly do without any rider aids at all, learn how the bike works within a few weeks and youll be fine.

6:33 I think most people will agree that the R7 looks just as good as the RS660. I wouldn't say "desirability" is part of the R7's main problems. I would rather insist on the lack of top-end horsepower. If Yamaha released a similar bike based on the MT09's CP3 engine, I would pick it over the RS660 in a heartbeat.
@abyedrikn
@abyedrikn Жыл бұрын
yep to me r7 is the better looking and more desirable bike since I hate the tail light of the rs660, as you said top end power, reliability and my personal downside is the 835mm seat height. blipper, cruise control, lower seat height and power is the positives of rs660 imo. I think if ducati supersport updated their looks and added cruise control, it would take its place at the top.
@180FiftyFive
@180FiftyFive Жыл бұрын
i agree. the R7 being a very slim and sleek design is for me the biggest appeal of that bike. the engine is great just no top end power. if i had to chose between a RS660 and an R7 I'd definitely take the yamaha. a colleague had an MT07 with 130,000km and not a single issue meanwhile these aprilias have a reputation already. it's not like the CP2 engine is a slouch, just lacks crazy top speed.

@@motobob First of all, I’m a big fan and greatly enjoy your videos! Well, the engine had to be replaced under warranty, so not too great at first! One of the pistons or cylinders was the wrong size and killed the engine at 10k mile mark. I’m not too mechanical, so I don’t know exactly what the problem was. I was having rough throttle input and other issues with the first engine, probably because the gas/air ratio couldn’t be managed properly. It’s been great since the engine was replaced! 😅

Had a test ride and thought it was great. But I think the perfect ‘sportsbike’ for the road is actually a sporty naked like a MT-10, KTM 890 or a Street Triple! If you want a proper sportsbike experience, buy a sportsbike with a high revving engine. I reckon the new Kawasaki ZX4RR might be worth a look for a fun road sportsbike that you can thrash as sensible road speeds. Regardless, the Aprilia was still a brilliant bike!

yeah the nez zx4RR looks amazing. it ain't just the lack of power that pisses me off about the new sport bikes. it's the fact that they lack the soul and characteristics needed to be a sport bike. they are not sport bikes because they don't follow the recipe. so yeah you right because what people want sports bikes to be is what naked bikes are. no need to be extra uncomfortable in a uncomfortable seating position just so you can look like a loser poser who thinks he owns a sport bike and does sport bike shit but in reality just does low speed naked bike shit.

It's an EXCELLENT bike to get used to a sports bike on the road. A Liter+ sports bike is an absolute overkill on the road, this one is just right for it. It's light, nimble. The torque comes low in the revs. The riding position is comfortable but aggressive enough to learn to get quick in the curves and drag your knees. It's close to a sports bike, chassis-wise. You can make day long tours with it. It doesn't use much fuel. It has cruise control. The price is ok, a bit on the high side but it's worth it. The brakes are not perfect, but they brake hard enough (just the feeling is not perfect, but it's decent). I made 6 months with it, 10'000 km and hat no problem, then I swapped for a liter bike (which is a stupid thing if you're barely track-daying but I'm not smart at all so I have an excuse). The only negative points is the painting which is really stickers that come easily off when you wash insects away.

Really can't wait for KTM, Yamaha, to drop their sub-Liter bike class, road friendly Supersports in YZF-R9 and RC 990 form. As awesome as this bike is, it feels like 130-140 HP naked bike derived Supersport-lite bikes, with more road going ergonomics, and gobs more USABLE torque down low, without completely unnecessary Literbike top end, would be a beautiful, natural evolution of the Supersport class, as the 600's are sunset. It's not just that no one actually "needs" 150+ HP for the street, it's that it's actually a hindrance, unnecessarily dangerous, and still ultimately impossible to fully utilize. So why pay for a bunch of power you'll never actually be able to use, when you can get the best of naked bike low end torquey power, combined with still more top end performance than 99% of owners will ever even be able to utilize on a closed track? All while being more comfortable!

Glad to see this mentioned more and more in comments - reviewers never talk about reliability, but it's a huge factor for almost anyone looking to actually buy a bike, not just review it. Particularly Aprilia, KTM, and Triumph have terrible reputations for reliability, and nobody seems to care.

@@dsofe4879Great comment, it’s a sad state of affairs but to get superb reliability, you have to opt for one of the Japanese brands. The Triumph I purchased spent far too long in the workshop and completely destroyed my confidence in the brand.

@@dsofe4879 can confirm, I've had 2 KTM's, 1 engine blew up and the other riddled with other faults (mainly electrical). Unfortunately, I Ignored what people said about KTM and listened to the usual things people say who own the bikes (Because they dislike hearing bad things about said manufacturer) "don't always believe what you read online" and "16000miles on my KTM and its been fine" type of comments. My advice, listen to the community and particularly the people complaining about reliability. Reliability is the number 1 factor when buying a bike for me now, unfortunately. Z.K.R, yep just search in KZbin "Aprilia 660 problems" and you'll get a ton of videos, explaining the issue's with these bikes. I would not purchase a 660 for another couple of years yet

@@dsofe4879 couple years ago i was looking for an A2 bike and test rode the KTM RC390 and Duke 390. when I asked the dealership where the used bikes are that they had on their website, he said they are all out on loan while the warranty bikes are being repaired. i wouldn't trust a manufacturer with a new bike purchase unless i was sure i would sell it before the warranty is over. reliability is such an underrated part of bike ownership.

I drove one and loved it! Nevertheless I can put my finger on where rs660 places on the market with those specs and price tag. It's a bit too much for a beginner bike, and a bit too little for 2nd bike. The ergonomics are comfortable but not killer sharp. The engine, chasis, brakes and overall performance places between things like mt07/trident 660 and mt09/street triple/Duke 890. The price is more towards the street triple side which offers much more for the money. RS660 is an enigma to me. A lovely bike but it's just unsure of it's identity. It's jack of all but master of none. I though about upgrading my trident 660 to rsv4, rs660 just wasn't enough. It doesn't offer groundbreaking upgrade from average begginer bike and it's a bit too much to be a begginer bike on it's own.

I had one, in this colour. I agree it is a great bike, I loved it. But I disagree about the riding position. I clocked up 6000 miles on mine in the first 7 months of ownership, and any trip that was longer than a couple of hours had my back and my wrists aching. It got so bad I had to sell it and now own an MT09. I appreciate a contributing factor is my age/weight and fitness levels (I'm 53, 6'1, and the right side of 16 stone) but I think its worth people at least being aware that for longer trips/rides you may well feel this too. It is a great bike though.

I'm thinking about getting my first bike, and my two choices are either an R7 or an RS 660. The 660 is a better bike, but it's 3k more and I don't want to worry about reliability. The R7 is a worse bike, but it's more reliable and costs 3k less. If I do get a bike it won't be for a few months, so I have plenty of time to think about it.

The reliability of Aprilia is on the bottom of the list on bikes I listed. Last Aprilia is the most expensive from bikes I listed. So no Aprilia is far from the perfect bike. Aprilia have got everyone beat on looks since 2004 IMO. I'll always be a Kawasaki rider though - their bikes are cheap, but are focussed. The zx10r is special. Also, rider aids on an 80-100 bhp bike are a bit redundant IMO.

Oh yeah don't believe the economy read out, i can get it anywhere from 63-68mpg, great selling point when i off load it, but simple tracking calculations put it at 52-55mpg, which is still excellent as im a mountain/apex hunter, and ride spirited. This is price very close to Suzuki Katana and is costlier than a Ninja 1000 (here in India). Now I know that Katana and Ninja 1000 are not track bikes, but if it is being called "Track bike for Street Riding", it kind of beats the point. So unless if you are buying it for hardcore track days, this bike does not make any sense. I won't say I'm absolutely right as I have never been fortunate enough to ride these, so a person who got to swing their legs over all of them, they would certainly know better. Looks amazingly beautiful though.
