The Tuono V4 makes sense because the RSV4 is too extreme for most road riders. With the Tuono 660 Aprilia have tried to make a perfect sporty road bike out of...a perfect sporty road bike. The result seems to be a bike that's just not quite as good as the bike it's based on, and not significantly cheaper. I still think my next bike will probably be an RS 660.

@@jamessmurf2929 The RS660 would not be comfortable for long periods of riding. Yeah, I'm sure there are some "tough guys" out there that will claim otherwise. But the tuono version is superior in terms of comfort. Its about as close to perfect as you can get for a middle weight sport bike for the Street. 400lbs wet, and 100HP and a comfortable riding position for longer rides. What else could you want. Once you get over 100 HP, its a waste in most instances, because you simply won't be able to use the extra power but on a very limited basis. Even 100HP is pushing it in terms of usable power on the Street.

Nice review & I do like this bike but Aprilia seem to have got the price point wrong in the UK. In the states it's about $400 for the QS & IMU together & it's still a few hundred dollars cheaper than the RS. How they figured out the UK pricing is a mystery. It should be 100-200 cheaper than the RS when fully spec'd, not more expensive obviously! Would definitely go for the RS.

"Big Bike" has a specific meaning in the UK, related to the graduated licensing scheme. I think the engine drop in power to 94 was mainly to make it possible to sell an A2 variant which is not a bad thing, if it was around about a grand cheaper it'd be amazing deal, right now though it fits into that weird spot between cheap 650s like the Mt07, Ninja 650, Sv650 and the middle size nakeds you mentioned, which most of have something over the Tuono, due to this I don't think they're biting into either market as much as they could
@colinthornton13783 жыл бұрын
Problem is they are not doing an A2 variant and Colchester Kawasaki are selling these for 8k at the moment. You can get A2 on the RS model though, which makes no sense at all.
@identiticrisis Жыл бұрын
It's really as simple as a different map, the engine is the same otherwise. The A2 compliant map weirdly is lacking in the midrange compared to the full fat map. But it has to be homologated and registered as 70 kW to be able to be sold as an A2 model. There's not only a power limit but also a (power-to-) weight limit. So the map has to account for all of that and ensure it doesn't breach the limit in any area whilst obviously getting as close to it as possible - might it be there is also a torque limit of some kind? As for markets, Aprilia have a strong track record of not chasing anything pre existing and simply focusing on making decent bikes. It hurts sales though because the media can't pigeon hole them for the mindless masses...

Removing only one of the cylinders from the V4 wouldn't be that hard. Some racing series spec a 750cc formula by disabling one of the cylinders from a 1000 cc four cylinder superbike. It's not really an equivalent to the 650's, which all make around 60-70hp and cost a lot less. To be fair, it kind of sits in it's own hybrid category without much direct comparison - probably best to compare a little from either category.

Not much point ... the 790 is obsolete and has been replaced by the base model 890 .... and thats coming from a 790 owner ;)

Scott Clark. Exactly what I thought, but maybe he was referring to the MT09 which he had just mentioned.

apparently he didn't notice the 890 has around 40% more torque than the 660 🤷♂️🤦♂️
@thesoapster3 жыл бұрын
I have to assume he means the KTM 890 performance-wise is similar to the MT-09 but "a little bit perkier". I love my 890 R, but I will say having a bit of fairing (like, say, the Street Triple or this Tuono) makes a difference. I added the 270mm Powerbronze screen to the KTM and that does help a lot.

The bike is a lemon! The Aprilia has many issues that are talked about in the Twins cup. Aprilia try's to keep it quiet even editing sponsored riders articles. Aprilia has an large group of mechanics at Moto America to keep the bikes running. The attached review is so common with many who own this bike...read the comments in the review! kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5q6daGrgK2Kbqs

660cc is too small for a sporty naked bike. And the parallel twin is a budget choice rather than choosing the best engine for the application.

Z900?
@lensoprezole53223 жыл бұрын
Z900 is around 5th or 6th place in the ranking of agility of this category of bikes. KTM 890, Street triple 675, Tuono 660, GSR 750 are more nimble than the Z900. Z900 not the last of the category in 2021 but far from the best. It is a Japanese bike that means financial compromises in the components that equips the bike (frame, suspensions, brakes, abs unit, etc)

Makes no sense to me this bike...we have the RSV4, a full on race bike for track use, and the tuono, the perfect sportbike for the road...the RS660 isn't a R bike, it's already the small sport bike for the road so this makes no sense!
@trevorphillips30553 жыл бұрын
Over priced, I think they'll be discounting it as people won't pay that much when there are better bikes at that price point.

I thought they would’ve flew out my job fast but nope we have a apex black Rs660 and the silver/red tuono 660 still sitting on the floor... all the aftermarket parts for these bikes are waaaaaaaay too overpriced I’m not giving KTM or Aprilia any of my money because it’ll be a waste

I will brake it down to you easy: Aprilia = Engine problems. After a week of riding it the engine icon is coming off and on. Same problems on the Tuono V4 Factory. Italian bikes sound good, but that's about it!
@mattguzzim17443 жыл бұрын
Probably works for Ducati. There is always that guy who wants to bash on Aprilia with outlandish claims. I owned a Caponord 1200 and put 35000 miles on it and never had one niggly little problem with the engine. I’d buy an Aprilia without hesitation.
@richardsimpson37923 жыл бұрын
The old 1000cc Aprilia V-twin is an excellent engine...so good that KTM wanted to use it in the 950 Rally/Adventure. Aprilia said 'no', so KTM hired the engineer who designed it. Imitation...the sincerest form of flattery!
@MrKdr5003 жыл бұрын
@@richardsimpson3792 Bullshit! Aprilia's engine was made by Rotax and anyone can buy the engines if they want, even the Nuda 900 engine is still available for anyone to buy... KTM already owned Husaberg and it was their engineers that designed KTM's first V-twin.
@splodge573 жыл бұрын
Italian bikes great but they arent as reliable as Japanese bikes, more service intensive and and more expensive to maintain.
@richardsimpson37923 жыл бұрын
@@MrKdr500 Not so. The engine was made by Rotax, as at the time Aprilia made no components at all. But the design was exclusively for Aprilia. I own examples of both, and you can certainly see the connection. You may find this thread of interest advrider.com/f/threads/rotax-and-ktm.554747/
