I had to keep stopping this video because these are my childhood memories. I was a spectator at that race. My family spent many weekends at Rabbit Run in the 1970s.

Very cool compilation. Broc and I went at it in Moto 2. We swapped the lead three times in the last 1/2 lap, but alas, Broc made the last pass.

Agreed. Excellent compilation. The slide shows & easy music, watching all of you guys race at those cutting edge speeds on factory MX bikes is still just as amazing & enjoyable nowadays. You guys were ⚡️fast. Hope all is well with you😊Those were great times back then, and not only in MX.

@Rick Denney It is right where the big State Farm complex is on SE corner of 75 / Bush.... if you are going N on 75 and exit Renner and stay on service road, you will cross a creek before you get to Bush over pass.. The track was right there between the creek /bush and right next to the service road!

I was there that day. My friend and I made up some fake press credentials and got into the pit area. I recall vividly that Adolph Wiel came in from practice on his factory Maico and the first thing that he did was light up a cigarette. Crazy ......

These were the glory days at the height of the twin shock revolution before the single shock bikes began to out their gremlins.

Man those were the glory days as a kid on a honda Sl100. Use to cross all the cotton fields from cambell rd and custer. Hit up the trails across 75 from there and make a couple laps on that track.

I wonder when the track closed? I moved to Plano in 10-80 and it was closed but still was a good course. The clay was hard as a rock but we rode there through the mid 80s getting chased out by the cops every now and then. Great photos and video, thanks!!
@wildphiljohnson53362 жыл бұрын
It went by the way side when they widened 75 and the service rds. George Bush toll rd mix master and all that growth from renner rd north. The other side of 75 had a great flat track layout and trials bike trails.

@@wildphiljohnson5336 It was good up until 1984-5 until some kid broke his neck and they sued the land owners, so that was it for any more riding. I bought a retired 79 works RM125 off a guy in Dallas in 1981 who used to do the circuits... his garage was lined with trophies, I wish I kept that bike.

@@zone47that was cool🏆I know a few people who have a few Works bikes still. Those old Works bikes are absolutely works of engineering MX art! Different in every single aspect; just like a Winston Cup or Nextel Cup or whatever it is now…race car. Amazing skills & knowledge to build that special stuff!

I was there...I think it was 1977. Mel Newman got the holeshot in the Support class and looked brilliant for a few laps. We're both from San Angelo. Anybody know how he finished? Am I even in the correct year?

Steve Wise won the support class that day.Lost his seat on the 2nd lap and still won.
