I purchased this Motogadget Chronoclassic thanks to this video, I love it and love my m-unit blue as well that really has improved my bike a lot, its like having a new motorcycle. I unfortunately am not the one that put all of it together but I am proud of the final product regardless. Thank you Revival for all these fantastic videos.

Very cool gauge. I will likely be buying one in the future. I don't know if it would be too much to ask for, but I would like to see a gear indicator built into a unit like this. Be it in the display or a small LED display, I think it would be a nice addition. Your products look great. I really enjoy learning about them in these detailed videos! Keep up the great work.

The cool part about the Chronoclassic is that it actually has a gear indicator built in. Because the gauge has both engine speed and vehicle speed, it can to the math to determine which gear you are in. This just needs to be calibrated during the setup and configuration process, which is described in the manual.

Wow, very cool! I will be buying one of these gauges then when I'm ready to build my bobber. Thanks for the info!

Hi Revival.. Thanks as always for making these. I have a question about how this works with vintage bikes. I see you answered that it DOES in fact work with them but I am wondering how? I do not see a connection for the speedo or tach cable. How does it calculate these values? I saw someone use a bluetooth GPS thing.. Do I need one of these? Thanks for making the effort to answer community questions.

Good questions, glad you are paying attention. The cables are no longer used, as they are a frequent source of failure and a known wear item, it is best to eliminate them. The tach function is the easiest to setup, and just needs to have a wire connection to the negative terminal of one of the ignition coils. This works with all 12V style ignitions, but if you have a TRUE CDI (capacitive discharge Ignition) the coil voltage is much too high for the gauge and you need to use one of these... revivalcycles.com/collections/motogadget-electrical-parts/products/motogadget-ignition-signal-sensor NEVER CONNECT THE GAUGE TO VOLTAGES HIGHER THAN 15V!!! For the wheel speed, that is what the reed switch and magnets that are included with he gauge are for. The reed switch needs to have a custom bracket made that will hold it near the front or rear wheel, such that a magnet mounted in a bolt head can pass by the switch triggering the signal. Reed switches work as an open contact, until a magnet is introduced in close proximity which closes the contacts. In the case of these gauges, one side of the switch is connected to ground, the other to the speed input wire of the gauge. Then when the wheel rotates the magnet causes the switch to close once per revolution (or twice if you use two magnets). Then you enter calibration data into the gauge configuration and it knows the speed. This is information and a whole lot more is explained in the manual motogadget.com/media/downloads/manual/msc_chc_manual_en_4.7_k.pdf but if you do run into issues with your install email techsupport@revivalcycles.com

Thanks for taking the time to explain this, I really appreciate the help. I will make sure to reference where I got the information when I make the video of setting this all up on my channel. This is very very helpful. Thanks again! Cheers!!

@@RevivalCycles Hello Revival. I would also like to thank you for all the videos. I have seen them over and over again especially when it comes to wiring. Your products and videos come alive on my Honda CB 900F '82. I have a question for measuring RPM? I have OEM ignition coils at the moment, but am trying to figure out how I can switch ignition with Dyna 2000 Digital Ignition and Dynatek Ignition Coils 3 Ohm. So my question is, can I connect RPM measurement to the negative terminal on my bike or should I have this Motogadget ignition signal sensor you are referring to?

very useful vid, But how do you configure it from kph to Mph, also the crimps for the wiring on mine were too big to fit into plug and motogadget not very helpful.

I don't see a low fuel indicator on the Motogadget Chronoclassic Speedometer, are they other options?
@RevivalCycles
@RevivalCycles 7 жыл бұрын
It is possible to use the turn signal indicartor as low fuel light. Basically if you notice the turn indicator is on solid you are low on fuel. If its blinking the turn signal is on. The details of the exact setup for this depend on how the fuel level sender works. Thermistor type sensors may need to be used in combination with a relay, or 82 ohm 5 watt resistor.

I have a 1993 Honda Super 4 with a standard analogue speedometer. Can I fit this as a replacement which looks to be digital? Assume the electronic features only work if the bike is already wired for that function e.g. oil light.
@RevivalCycles
@RevivalCycles 6 жыл бұрын
These gauges integrate very well on bikes like yours. There is no problem setting up the indicator lights, but you will need to come up with a custom install of the speed sensor. The gauge comes with the sensor, but you will need to find a location to mount it. Normally it isn't too difficult.

I plan on using both the tach and speedo guages on my build. Can you change the top line to something else?
@RevivalCycles

Not much you can do about that. There is no way to program something else into the top read out.

I'm converting a 97 Virago 750 to a bobber and have a ton wiring work to do. Could I use this to replace the stock tach/speedo? Also, since the fuses are in the housing that feed the tach/speedo would the M-Unit be able to replace that?
@RevivalCycles
@RevivalCycles 7 жыл бұрын
Yep, this gauge works well with the Viragos, and the same for the m-Unit. The m-Unit install is a bit more intense than just replacing the fuse block, but it also does a lot more than the fuse block ever could. To me there is no better way to wire a custom motorcycle than, an m-Unit, Chronoclassic, and m-Switch minis for the handlebar switches.

I know this is quite old but I am wondering if I can put this on my 1978 cx500. if it will fit I will for sure be buying one
@RevivalCycles
@RevivalCycles 8 жыл бұрын
This gauge is compatible with the CX500 electrical systems, however, we cannot comment about the physical mounting. I don't know what gauge setup you have or what the sizes are so there is no way to tell if this will simply bolt up. There are detailed dimensional drawings available here. motogadget.com/shop/media/downloads/plan/msc_dimensionen.pdf

Hello...I have a 2012 EFI Triumph Thruxton , ( I know I would have to purchase the Tri signal adapter ) Is the Motogadget Chronoclassic literally plug and ride ?
@RevivalCycles
@RevivalCycles 8 жыл бұрын
+Mar Vel Sorry for the slow reply, we got swamped during the Handbuilt show... About the m-Tri, yea, its pretty much plug and play, the m-Tri comes with the connectors you need, and then its just a matter of connecting a few wires into screw terminals, and mounting. No modifications to the factory harness, and it is all easily reversed back to stock.

How to install motogadget Chronoclassic speedo to harley davidson Sportster 2011? Thank
@dropj3

can i install this on a classic Honda cb500 four? If so, how hard is it? My tachometer and speedometer are goners and they are way to expensive to replace as originals.
@RevivalCycles
@RevivalCycles 8 жыл бұрын
Yes this can be installed on a classic CB500f. There are two parts of the installation, first is physically mounting the gauge, and the second is making the electrical connections. Most of the connections are not too difficult and the majority of the wires are already running to the original gauge. The most difficult part is getting a speed sensor setup, there is a sensor included in the kit but you will need to make a mount for it. The sensor needs to be mounted so that a magnet attached to either the front or rear wheel passes near the sensor as the wheel rotates. If you have more questions, or would like to discuss the details for your application, email us techsupport@revivalcycles.com

can it be installed in a 99 zx6r "fingers crossed"
@RevivalCycles
@RevivalCycles 7 жыл бұрын
I am not completely familiar with all the electrical systems on a zx6r but I think in 99 those bikes were still carbureted and had fairly simple systems. As long as the bike does not have a factory immobilizer on the engine management system then this gauge can be installed on your bike.
