Well yes he had fans before he started winning and a few in moto2 98% or more probably didn't even know he existed till he was announced with Honda and most of his fans were Ex Rossi, Lorenzo or Pedrosa fans who only started supporting him after he started winning and showed he could win titles.

What Marc did here was very similar to what Ayrton Senna did in japan 1988 starting first his car almost stalled and he went down to the last positions and in the end he made a spectacular comeback and ended up winning the race, so 24 years later Marquez reproduced the same thing again and also in the same country.

You should really check your reel archived, go back to 1997, Austria, 125cc. Noboru Ueda qualified 1st row but had to start from last. He was angry and won by the nose, it was wet too. I remember it to this day.
