My dad was watching me struggle with a rear stand my brother had just got me for Christmas. Goes "ayy why not put this 2x4 block under the kickstand?" We try it and well what do you know. Keeps the bike just under fully upright enough to get the stand's prongs under the bobbins. Works like a charm, RIP dad.

If i can give my two cents: you can put a little raise under the stand like a tile so it stays a bit straighter, then you can go back to position and lift the stand without even touching the bike, i've been doing it like this and it works perfectly!

Glad I watched this. First bike I've needed to use a paddock stand on and have now done it 10-20 times on my own, but wondered why the initial 1-2 inch pivot/lift was so difficult. Thought maybe the stand was not ideal for my bike or I was doing it wrong, however I notice that you also have to force that initial movement, once it starts to move it's fairly simple , just need to commit to that first push. Also glad you emphasise the kick stand !!! I now have a red piece of tape near the handle of the PStand with kick written on it, saved me twice.

Nicely done and explained. When mine fell off the stand it was because A.) was not on level ground- slight downgrade to non-kickstand side. B.) did not exert pressure coming off the stand toward kickstand side so bike would fall correctly to left. (for this reason I also recommend turning handlebars left before going off the stand)

@@MotoJitsu I think that you are being a bit dismissive. These are well engineered stands and I put my money on the designers and why they took the time and effort to design and make that V asymmetrical. That taller part of the V is there for a reason. It's because, not only are you lifting, but initially you are having to capture the spool and there is a degree of rearward pressure in that motion. That taller section of the V makes that a bit easier as well as a bit safer. On the stands with the side / forward handle, the V would be mounting to the rear as they are putting some forward pressure on the spools.

Great advice. My first attempt at putting my bike on a stand today was never going to work because the ground was uneven and not quite level, and I had the bike in neutral so the rear wheel still turned. Once I'd found some decent, level ground and put the bike in first gear I was successful.

I'm lifting a 750 pound cruiser with pit bull stands. When working alone it's a lot easier if you put a piece of lumber under the kick stand to straighten the bike up when lifting and lowering.

The Pitbull stands with the extended handle provide nice lifting leverage. I have a lesser stand that’s just a loop and I have to put my whole body weight on it to lift my bike. Doesn’t allow an extra hand to steady the bike. I need to use it with a front wheel chock that supports the bike upright by itself before lifting the rear, or have a helper steady the bike from the front.

The only times a bike of mine has hit the ground is forgetting the side stand taking it off the rear stand. Twice in fifteen years so far. No major damage (frame sliders are worth their weight in gold) aside from my ego, but I damn sure check my side stand a million times before taking the rear stand down now. Even still that moment when I let it drop towards the side makes my heart skip no matter how many times I do it without issue.

if you have wood joist in your garage just put two eyehooks into the joists and then use two motorcycle tie-down straps to hook onto the handlebars and use them to straighten and secure the bike before you use the Pit Bull. Much safer way and less stressful. Or you can buy yourself a front-wheel chock which will also hold the bike upright but a little less safe in my opinion.

Also in my parking space the bike is all the way to the right almost near the wall so theres no way for me to stand on the right side of the bike. Im always positioned at the rear center of the bike when i mount/dismount it from the paddock stand. But still, I need to practice this style.

thanks for sharing the experience, it's always useful to see how the same thing is done by others. I can add a little bit to the shown regarding handlebar position. I'd recomend to set it in neutral/straight position before the rear end ex. Why ? - The ground surface might be not ideal and small stand's wheel might get stuck in a bump - in this case, as you're lifting the rear, the stand doesn't move and the bike moves backward and it has to move along a line, not a curve, so the handlebar has to be in neutral position. btw, what is the yellow thing hanging from the ceiling ?

On the peg fork, shouldn't the longer fork leg be under the peg initially on that brand? Something that I recommend after doing this a lot is too lock the steering straight centered forward. Just a matter of time before the steering flops to one side at the wrong time, been there. It also helps stabilize while working on it. You can make some sort of bracket or simply use rope or tie down strap tying the handlebar ends to somewhere on the frame.

Great video SenSei! I found that all my bikes, whether spooled or not are 13" apart to the inside of the rubber flange or spool forks. My Thruxton R is impossible to do alone as there is nothing to hold onto in the rear of the bike. I bought the Pit Bull that has the lever arm offset to the left side of the bike. This one rolls under the bike so you can use the handlebars to balance the bike while you push down on the arm with your hand or your foot. The good news is that it isn't sticking out behind the bike to trip on. The bad news is that it's under the bike if you have to work on something. Awesome stuff! 🙌👏👌✌🖖🤙👍👋🙂

I had no problem using front and rear stands on my Kawasaki Versys 650, which did have spools installed. The Kawasaki Concours 14 I purchased last year is another matter entirely. To start, commercial stands are not wide enough to span between the spools that I installed on the swing arms. In any case, the "Connie" is much too heavy and the balance point is too narrow to allow a single person to lift the rear in a stand. I'm still trying to figure out how to fabricate some type of mechanism to lift the bike. The bike has front and rear crash bars. The rear bars project to protect the panniers. I think some type of powered jack that engages the rear crash bars and that can be actuated remotely while holding the bike upright may be the solution. Meanwhile, I've used my engine hoist (which I have to retrieve from storage and assemble to use) to lift the bike bodily for wheel access.

Hello Greg , stupid question here yesterday I used the rear stand for lifting the rear wheel of my sportbike and I had no problems in doing so , however when raising up the rear stand to lower the rear wheel back on the ground , I did it too fast and the rear wheel slammed down on the ground , luckily I saved the bike and no tip over 😅😅 My question is , if lowering the rear wheel too fast on the ground could cause some damage to the wheel/swing arm or other parts ? Bare in mind I wasn’t using a Pitbull rear stand , another aftermarket one (yeah I know should get a decent one😭) , so the rear wheel was lifted around 17cm from the ground. Thanks for your time to read my comment and If you can answer me

Sorry, but I did lol for your question. Bikes can go 300km/h but you tought that dropping it too fast from 10cm can damage it. :D

Can I ask then would you only use this paddock stand if you do not have a center stand , and assuming you have a center stand and want to work on your front wheel you would then just get a front paddock stand to lift the front wheel up .Or would the original center stand not work in this case and you would need two paddock stands in order to work on the front end .Sorry if this is no clear but I hope ya get what I mean . Cheers : )

If I had a bike with a center stand, I wouldn't use this on it. I never tried this type of stand on the front. Share it with others :) MotoJitsu.com for my app, books, etc. in case you didn't already know.

My CB500X has a short Kickstand. So I put a 2x4 under the kickstand to get the bike more upright but not fully upright. Then it takes no effort at all to lift onto the stand.

Another way to bring the bike upright is by placing a flat surface block under the kickstand

Very good. And pay a few extra bucks for a good high quality stand and not the cheap Harbor Freight stands that bend.

The stand itself might support the weight (check on the Pitbull site), but you probably would not be able to lift the bike upright via the tail and almost certainly would not be able to pivot the stand down (lifting the bike off the ground). I think the better way is to get a specially made hydraulic lift on rollers, like the one from J&S Jacks. The good ones, like that, have arms that slant down slightly so you can lift the bike from its resting position rather than the cheaper lifts that require balancing the bike first. The cheap ones are also sketchy and feel like they can twist or fail.

I refer to the playlists on this channel all the time, to get new tips and keep up the knowledge that I have. One question: what jack or work stand do your recommend? I have a small bike, and just for working on my own bike, so not going to use it on a daily basis.

On my sports bike when lowering the bike I make sure the kick stand is down and did u know if u turn ur handlebars to the left before lowering the bike will naturally start leaning into the kick stand when lowering the bike so u don't have to push or be scared of it falling the wrong direction
