Just my experience- I've had removable liner... walking around with a couple of pounds of absorbed water in your jacket is no fun- you drip everywhere and it makes you cold. Laminate with zip vents FTW. The only removable liner required is the thermal. So that Supervent 3 looks very tasty.

Scott jacket is brilliant, I even use it over my Carlsbad. You may think this over kill but when it rains all day and you are camping it means you don't have a big wet jacket in the tent. My Carlsbad is also brilliant probably the best jacket had yet including old Rukka. Recent 2500 mile UK trip with mostly rain north of the border and 30 degrees in the south worked perfectly. Just need some Daytona's now :) Thanks for the help and advice.

Regarding the Scott waterproofs, I spend 6 days in Norway, 6 hours a day in a downpour, and was always totally dry. Amazing!

Nice review. I have booth the Neotec II and the Krios pro, ride a very loud T7, and unless I am planning 300 Miles highway I prefer the Krios by far. Exceptional comfort, ventilation and same noise level, and I can use intercoms easily. Cheers

great video - I went in to the Marrakesh, zepher and Scott combo with a Rukka down-x based on your advice and it's a brilliant setup - I've a Rukka Arma-T set that is looking pretty redundant these days! Looking forward to part 2 and boots, gloves and casual style trousers - expecting the Rokker jeans but will be keen to see other recommendations - great stuff!

I commute 45 mins each way in my Lysvik jacket (that I bought from yourselves) and I spent a week riding to the Black Forest and back in it. Seems perfectly suited to commuting and touring to me. It's a fantastic jacket for the price, though one of the arm zips keeps getting caught in loose stitching that has frayed already.

Not suitable for a long commute as it’s a drop-liner and so will wet out. Same applies to touring. This really is a ‘pop to the shops’ jacket. The zips are also not very waterproof, so in heavy rain, the jacket will quickly reach its level of incompetence. Wear a Scott over the top, and you would change the dynamics, but that applies equally to a mesh jacket! CC

Always great. Chris, ask for a raise. You are the wonderful face of Motolegends. I always thoroughly enjoy and appreciate your evaluations. I would be interested in your take on chest protection. I very much like my Klim kit but have to hack (believe that is the English word [I speak American, not English]) a chest protector into the rig…not a deal breaker but a pocket or two would be a nice option. Alpinestars is making a play for my attentions with their consistent provision for a chest protector. (Notice you do not review or mention this brand…I find it ubiquitous but well thought out).

Interesting reviews. I agree the Marrakesh is the best jacket in the world! However, I do not agree with your assessment of the Krios Pro helmet. I have a "big adventure bike" and I only ride on the road. I do a lot of miles. I have two helmets - a Krios Pro and a Neotec II. According to my ears (with earplugs), the Krios pro is a fair bit quieter than the Neotec. It is also far better vented. Together with the transitions visor and peak, it makes an excellent summer touring helmet, and it is definitely the one I choose for longer tours. I have a Sena 30K clamped on the side and I have no issues hearing my intercom or phone. I guess my head must just be the ideal shape for this helmet and I'd buy another without hesitation.

I was surprised to discover Arai has a Comms system for the Quantic, however it doesn't really seem any better integrated than if you were to stick a random Cardo or Sena system in there? Looking forward to part 2 of this video!

We just prefer the Marrakesh. It is so much lighter and, with its stretch component, it’s much more comfortable to wear. It flows as much air as the Baja. It also doesn’t look like a bike jacket, which is a consideration for us. Like the Baja S4, it’s AA-rated, so is strong enough for most riding. Nothing wrong with the Baja S4, but we think the Marrakesh is so easy to live with that it would always get our vote. CC

Honestly I have both the Baja and the Marrakesh and I vastly prefer the Marrakesh as well. I took the Baja out for a long weekend Rally and my wife set the jacket down and one of the shoulders contacted some of the Velcro on the garment and it damaged the stretch fabric on the shoulder (given the price I was not impressed with how readily it was damaged). Neither my Marrakesh or Badlands has ever had issues getting tore up like that when lightly pressed against Velcro. The Marrakesh also has a much nicer fit since it is all stretch material unlike the Baja which combines several different materials (a large portion of which have no stretch).

Must admit, I didn’t get on with my Rukka Comfo-R. I didn’t like the integrated neck thing and found it drafts at the zip. I ended up in a Halvarssons Vansbro which I think is better

You’re comparing apples and pears. One is laminate; one is drop liner. In heavy rain, the Vansbro will not wet out, but for most people the Rukka will be more comfortable and warmer. The Rukka’s warranty is also three times longer than the Halvarssons’ one. And that’s an important factor if you do a lot of miles. CC

Yes I understand the point regarding comfort of drop liner vs laminate but I don’t find the Vansbro any less comfortable than the Comfo-r. I could tell the difference between the Nivala 2 and the comfo-r The warrantee point is an issue. But from what people tell me waterproofing isn’t really an issue with Halvarssons

I see you recommended the Neotec II for a flip lid. I am curious if you have taken the SHARP testing latch failure rate being just a bit over triple some of the other options into account (ironically the Neotec I scored a 93% indicating a 7% latch failure rate, the Neotec II scored 70% indicating a 30% latch failure rate).

@@Motolegends Until something better comes along it is what we have. It is also about the only source where you can see actual differentiation between models and vendors. Until then what do we use? Also latch failure testing seems pretty straightforward, no real magic there.

​@@williamb.6918 I totally agree with you - When Motolegends say noone in the bike industry takes seriously - they mean the expensive brands don't because they don't always score 5/5 and the big brands have to sell expensive helmets. SHARP testing and ratings are based on real world crash data and replicate real world impacts including angled surface impact (like kerb etc) as well as impact passed to the head inside and rotational factors. Every helmet passes ECE22.05 so that is that and then we just get people saying "buy the expensive brands whats your head worth" etc. SHARP add an extra data point and it is no coincidence that some of their tests (oblique impact and rotational forces) now form part of ECE22.06 so it seems someone takes them seriously. The SHARP site is very honest about the chin bar latch test. It says that it doesn't test the latch explicitly but as it impact tests the helmet (30 drops at various heights and angles) it notes if the chin bar latch fails - with Neotec 2 it failed 10 times out of 30 which is pretty damning. However SHARP are open about the fact that it is not a latch test as such. Personally I wouldn't touch a helmet where the latch fails when the helmet is impact tested having impact tested a 100% latch rated flip helmet chin first! The fact is a £100 helmet can be as safe as £500 helmet. ECE22.05 or ECE22.06 or SHARP on their own don't prove that but they all provide good data points. However there are other factors like comfort, pinlock, sun visor, quick release visors etc. That is what the expensive brands offer, not necessarily highest safety rated helmets. Personally I go for ticking as many boxes as possible within the budget I have.

I combine the stadler pants with the supervent 3 jacket and the revit neptune 2 removable gtx liner jacket, so i can cater for any weather Belgium can throw at me , 25 k/year, year round. (boots: Daytona roadstar, gloves: 3 different models from richa, neotec 2 helmet, icebreaker merino wool untherclothing) Very happy with my choices sofar.

@@gbner9991 I’ve just purchased the stadler Pants ,I only ride for pleasure so only done a 4 hour Ride yesterday ,Temps we’re about 23c and they were fine ,I ride a sports tourer wasn’t noticing any air flow through the vents which were open and of course I’d removed the thermal liner .but if I stood up on the pegs they were definitely venting.supremely comfortable.

Thanks for the information, enjoy your videos allot and learned a grate deal out of them. One notion thought, the Scott waterproofs are horible bit of kit. I bought the pants kast season and they got destroyed in just couple of rides, the quality of them is very bad.

Are you totally mad? They’re the best made, most effective and most robust waterproofs ever. I suspect you may have their super lightweight ones that simply aren’t up to the job of real-world riding. But having sold well north of 5,000 sets, I have to tell you that nobody has ever questioned the quality. Unless, of course, you work for a competitor!

I have the Lysvik jacket and I would highly recommended it to anyone after a well vented throw on day jacket, I love it. But here's the (very slight) rub and I would have maybe expected better clarity from Motolegends. The jacket is from Lindstrands a subsidiary brand of Halvarssons, so not a compleat miss truth and at the price point possibly not a deal breaker, just a little misleading.

Not intentionallly misleading. We are the world’s biggest seller of the Swedish company’s gear. We have never referred to the Lindstrands brand because it is confusing. It’s the same company. The gear is made in the same factory. In Sweden the two brands mean something different; over here they don’t. So really our position is about about avoiding confusion, not about misleading. CP

You seem to make the assumption that you would ride a flip-lid with the chin bar raised, and this is wrong. This is not why you buy a flip lid. At slow speeds in town you might raise the lid to get some air in, but a flip-lid is about quiet and about convenience. A flip-lid is not an open -face. CP
