This is my interpretation of this song: The man in the song is long haunted by his dream-girl. It's a song about the Anima/Animus and our implicit desire to become whole, through the process of seeking love. What we seek in others, is what we long in ourselves... believe it or not. "Perhaps I knew her long ago. I wrote her poems at nine years old. But then I did become a man. Let her slip right through my hands." His hope in waiting, finally exhausted... he decides to do away with these childish fascinations. Through every girl he comes across, he attempts to find her in each one, to no success. The song is about a numinous girl that isn't exactly 'real', in a sense. That is, the singer hasn't come across her yet--he keeps his ideals high in secretly seeking her. More or less, 'she' is referred to as an ideal within his mind. One who is his equal in every regard. Soulmates, essentially. He believes, that like himself, she too is pursuing the same dream and the same path... hence, in following his passions, he hopes to one day meet her "She's already where I'm going. I stand upon a broken stage. I beg you darlin' please-please wait." It's also apologetic in the sense, that he regrets his attempts in trying to formerly quash the fantasy of her... and in his belief of doing so, he hopes that he isn't all too late in finding her. One day he will.

This is a very special song with a beautiful vision to it. In the song it explains that he’s having a dream about a perfect girl, the perfect girl in the dream stands up above her dinner plate and says “wait for me.” It then goes on to talk about how he builds his wit to impress her when he meets her in real life. He then meets her and explains how amazing she is and how long he’s been waiting. In the end of the song he says “I believe, in a dream.” This comes to show that he believes that dreams are true, and have more meaning then what we give them. This is a beautiful song with a deep story to it. We all except the love we think we deserve
