The problems you mentioned with the oil and the rear main seal is probably just the vacuum pump for the brakes. I just fixed this, it's a common 2.5l problem. You can delete it and run the vacuum from the intake manifold. You can look up a delete kit or how to diy it.

The trick with the AC, I did always with my MK2 syncro when I had to change the clutch, it was so much more easy to take out the motor and see what you was doing with the gearbox.

Probably broke the Transaxle pump gears (by not installing the torque converter in the Transaxle) when installing the first time.

Could it be the timing covers and backing plates sounds like a squealing noise maybe the tensioner is slightly touching that metal cover also be touching around the crankshaft pulley its constant so look around the spots like pulleys bearings etc

I think you damaged the oil pump on the transmission I assume that the torque converter was not fully installed it’s a rookie mistake I did the same on a 1.8 T B5 Passat and I’m a full time independent VW mechanic and now I mesure with a straight edge across the bell housing and mesure how far the end of the converter stick out there is factory specs on this in VW repair manual.

Ive been there. My 67 vw bug has had and issue for awhile of it not starting at all. Weird stuff. Started fine b4 i swaped the carb and coil, used the original and it wont work😑 lots of fun...haha great video jamie! Love seeing the work

The coilovers are totally a win thanks to Solo-Werks ! 💙 We have another auto transmission to try before doing a manual swap. Trying to make this more budget friendly without having to spend all the extra money on those manual swap parts. :)

The transmission was ok. You just needed to purge it. You pump the brakes and hold them press through a cycle of all of the gears as follow: park>reverse(40sec)>park(40sec)>reverse(10sec)>neutral(40sec)>reverse(10sec)>park(40sec)>reverse (10sec)>neutral(10sec)>drive(40sec)>neutral(10sec)>reverse(10sec)>park(40sec)>reverse(10sec)>neutral(10sec)>drive(10sec)>sport(40sec)>drive(10sec)>neutral(10sec)>reverse(10sec)>park(40sec). And lift the brakes. And your wheels will move. I do this like 3 time until the transmission feels smooth. The same goes when you change your transmission fluid. It's scarry but all it has is air in the solenoids (I think that's what they are called).

The Ford Ranger ended up being the passenger ball joints & needing a new spindle. He was able to sell it as is. So right now he’s daily driving his Mk3 Golf project until the Mk5 Jetta is ready :)

Any VCDS transmission adaptations attempted? Unless you guys were exceptionally rough with the transmission off camera, you already proved that it was mechanically functional, my bet is electrical/software.

im so excited about this build. also the 09g trans is awful just get rid of it... they all will fail eventually. supposedly there's a trans shop in olympia washington that has re-engineered the 09g and fixed it. might want to contact thurston county transmissions transmissionsolympia com and see what they suggest
