My friend's father was a brain surgeon in New York city for over 40 years. Dr. Harold Haft was an amazing man. While playing tennis with me one day he said, "never, ever, ever hop on the back of a motorcycle and go for a spin with anyone". It turns out that 95% of his motorcycle injured patients do not survive their accidents. This terrible statistic gave me food for thought and I followed his sound advice.

When I was in my early 20's my husband and I had a nice bike, but after this lady was at a stop sign and looked right at us she proceeded to try and run us over. I guess we didn't register in her brain. He later the bike down in gravel so she wouldn't squash us. It was close! We sold the bike the next day.

I work in early child care and 1 of my previous kid's father just passed away from a motorcycle accident. For letter M show and tell he brought in a picture of his dad's motorcycle. He was in the Navy and had just gotten out because he said he missed too much of his kids lives. Less than a year later he was gone. My director came in to tell me and I broke down. My student was such a happy little boy and loved his dad. The whole family was so tight knit. Since dad was in the military, they didn't have any family around. Mom moved the kids back down to FL in 2 weeks for the funeral.

I was 4 I think when my cousin who raced motorcycles was killed by a car of drunk kids that somehow had gotten onto the track he was practicing at...his mom my aunty forbade anyone else to ride or talk of riding a motorcycle. It wasn't his fault but as an ED nurse I have taken care of many motorcycle traumas and most are horrific yet I believe everyone has freedom to choose and hopefully they realize the outcomes of their choices when a negative event happens.

My father survived breaking his neck at 93 years old. He had to wear one of those neck braces for eight weeks, and it´s terrifying how much they interfere with eating, proper balance (not that his was any good to beginwith) and caused a fair bit of trouble on it´s on. Still, it made it possible for him to make it back from what could have been a fatal fall. I can completely sympthaise with the lady who came off her motorcycle, still, those things are life savers.

The first responders get to be traumatized having to scrape you up off the asphalt, I am a nurse and when I worked in the ER I saw too much damage to the body in a crash. I would never judge a patient but I really don’t know the answer, I just know that it’s dangerous.

Retired respiratory therapist here. Had a motorcycle accident victim flown in for multiple injuries, mostly head. Each time I have the intubated patient a breath, blood squirted from the head. Took a break and while walking out of the trauma bay, had a police officer hand me an bowl that contained gray (brain) matter. I just kind of looked at him and told him what it was and asked what he wanted me to do with it. He just stared at me. I just told him that I would put it back in. Unfortunately Emergency personnel (especially us on night shift) have a very dark sense of humor! You have to in order to avoid burnout. Loved all 17 years!! Now, these programs help me release all of those pent up feelings and memories. Thank you!

A close relative of mine was hit head-on on his motorcycle as he waited for the light to turn green. The person who hit him didn’t have a legal license, or insurance. That was roughly 40+ years ago. His wife has taken care of him )(he is a quadriplegic). She sees to all his care. She is the reason he is still alive. He is the reason she is still alive. They are in love now like they were when they married years before the accident.

It’s just an observation on my part but I’ve noticed many of these folks have terrible teeth. I’m guessing it could be socialized medicine doesn’t think braces or implants are necessary or dentures or partials. I’m in the US and rarely does insurance pay for good dentistry so it’s mostly all out of pocket.
@anotherpenny1942

I read on another comment about everyone having bad teethe. And you are right, apparently the NHS doesn’t cover dental care so people only see the dentist in an emergency. Sad really. Dental care is part of your overall health so I have never understood the lack of dental care even in the U.S.

It's more than that, because even if you never go to the dentist all your life most people won't get the level of rotted teeth many of these people have. This is something more. I'm guessing they don't routinely brush their teeth, as well as having a really bad diet.
