If you're over 6 feet tall (183cm), you know that most motorbikes look small with you on top of them.
We explain why this is and give guidance on what to look for when choosing a motorbike.
We also have a very good solution to this problem, which we want motorcycle manufacturers to address.
In the video is the Harley-Davidson Heritage Classic 114, a Bullit V-Bob, a 2021 Honda CRF450RX, an Indian Hillclimb bike and a customised Harley-Davidson Iron 883.
If you are a motorcycle manufacturer and are interested in working with us on this idea; please get in touch. This needs to happen because people are much taller on average than they used to be, yet bikes are still made for the old average, or at least a world average, but in the Western world, people are generally taller.

Men are getting bigger people are catching up to us who are 6'2 plus. I also collect expensive watches because I dig mechanical craftsmanship and I have every one of them 48mm-50mm. I am 6'4 built like you (a semi shaved Yeti as my friends say) and what I have done is go with big wheel bikes because a good custom builder will have the front end welded up properly and use the right triple tree for that rake. I have a 30 inch front wheel Road Glide with a Harley 120R motor and a fat tire 2021 which is the same diameter as a 23 inch wheel/tire. My builder put the 124 kit from S&S with a beefy cam. So the front end is kicked out a bit the frame has been stretched a bit and the longer custom bags make the bike even longer. I think your Heritage is ~96 inches axle to axle where my bikes are about 110 axle to axle then longer bags. It is costly my 2021 RG cost a bit over 60K all in and I am not even going to say what the 30 inch big wheel cost. Keeping in mind it has a ton of custom work done on it and it is a Harley that is built the way Harley should build bikes with air suspension front and back with center frame pedestals (no more kickstands) Check out F bomb baggers he makes amazing bikes with an attention to detail that puts stock HDs to shame. You can reduce the cost a bit like I did by not getting a 10K stereo put in it. I don't listen to music when I ride defeats the purpose of the serenity I get that keeps me from eating humans.

At 6'3" myself, I'm a big proponent of flat seats (not scooped) that allow the rider to slide back and adjust their leg angle to their liking. A simple, cost effective change that manufacturers under utilize.

Good video - it's rare to actually find videos for taller riders, pretty much all the search results are for shorter folk trying to fit on taller bikes. Even if those cruisers aren't the kind of bikes I personally ride, I still like giving the wave to fellow tall bikers out there 👋 At 6'4.5" / 36" inseam (194cm), I'm not even all *that* tall (I think that's about the minimum over at r/Tall), but I've still given up on fitting on certain kinds of bikes (sports, sports/touring, most cruisers, even some full-sized touring bikes are cramped). For me, I've settled in to tall ADV bikes and larger vintage Standards. I haven't completely given up on full-size cruiser-style tourers, but I've always felt that the more reclined position wasn't quite right for me. Still, I'm open minded... *all* bikes are cool, and if I were to find one that really fit me, I certainly wouldn't mind seeing a Harley or similar in my garage some day. Ride safe!

I'm 6'4", I also, have a Heritage Softail that I have been riding for the last 8 years. It's really way to short for me and uncomfortable to me when I go on ling trips. Last Spring I bought a Ultra Classic. That bike really fits me very well and a LOT more comfortable when going on long trips. I can ride a lot longer and it's hard on me. I think the wheel base on the Ultra Classic is longer than the Heritage. Go to your nearest Harley Dealer and take a Ultra Classic or a Road Glide for a test drive. I do believe you will be a lot more comfortable on the touring models than the Cruiser like the Heritage. Thanks for Sharing this Video with us.

Absolutely true! As I commented under other video, I do not get why after hundred years of motorcycle history motorbike companies do not offer various frame sizes like it is absolutely normal in bicycle world. It is unimaginable for road or MTB bicycle customer not being able to choose the frame size that will fit to him/her. I wonder what must be done for ALL motorcycle manufacturers to realize this and to implement it! So logical... If I would have enough funds, I would immediately start new manufacturing company as this is clear hole on the market! Great video, absolutely logical thinking, I sign every word you said, keep going!

Well sir I've gone and done it! Just found you on youtube where I've been consuming videos about bikes regarding reviews, techniques, skills etc but never searched for tall riders! I've got your beard color maybe longer (minus the hair), 6' 7", 250 lbs and at 71 years old just starting all this up after some lifestyle changes. In reading many of the comments here I'm fascinated to see people taller than me wanting and trying to ride. I'm afraid I've already started down the road last fall with first, a 2022 300 GTS Vespa, 2022 BMW C400GT and a used BMW G310GS. The scooters are easy to bump around in town but the lightweight low end BMW 310 was acquired to learn shifting and such. Made a few changes plus getting a seat customized that really helps but does not make the world perfect either. I've already put money down on the BMW R1250GSA 40th year anniversary edition as so many reviews sold me. I may have moved too quickly now that I see your point of wheelbase being key. Being in the suburbs of Chicago Illinois I can visit many dealerships and it's not out of the question to make changes even though these recent acquisitions are new. Thanks for this insight you've provided. I'm rethinking this pursuit. It's great to see so many others with height commenting with their solutions and experience! Seems right that the industry should be working on some flexibility. I remember one time back in the late 70's or 80's I sat in every new automotive Honda model and put the seat all the way back to my surprise NONE of their cars world fit my frame. Went back to Ford and every single model in that day had much more adjustment back than others.

I’m 6’8” and have successfully stretched 3 HD (Road Kings & Glide CVO) 7 inches forward of the front motor mounts. Obviously this has a dramatic domino effect (ie. stretched tank, cables etc). But they all fit me perfectly after doing so with only minimal handling consequences. Yes it is expensive but we’ll worth it if your tall and want to ride in comfort.

I brought my 2012 Harley Fatbob FXDF (the one with the 2 headlights) a few years back because i wanted a bike i could be comfortable on for long distances. I’m 5’-19”, had a 1999 Yamaha RoadStar. I was too tall for the bike, so I had some forward control extensions that I fabricated for the floorboards. It added 4-1/2” in length, but created a problem where it hear the rear of the front fender when you turned the wheel and hit a dip. So I moved them back to 4”. Eventually sold that bike and got a 9’-6” chopper and purchased 8” forward control extensions. Those worked out nicely.

I am a new rider at 6' 4" (194 cm). What I discovered is that the bikes that fit me (any manufacturer) are usually their most expensive options. For example, most Harley Softail bikes fit me, but they are so expensive, whereas, I make their Sportsters look like toys. I ended up getting a Kawasaki Versys X-300 as my first bike, because it is one of the few examples that fit me and is not one of the manufacturer's more expensive bikes. Also, if we look at the length only, I fit great on a Indian Scout 60, but the bike is kind of squished vertically so I just looked weird on it. If it was slightly bigger vertically, it would be perfect.

I've owned every brand out there over the years and have NEVER had a comfortable cruiser. The foot forward riding position puts too much weight on my back and being closer to the ground plays havoc on my now aging hips, especially pushing it backwards. I've found that "Standard" models as opposed to cruisers or sport bikes fit me best although I've yet to try an "adventure" or "dual sport" bike. Standards put the foot pegs and pedals in a more of a mid position which keeps me upright while riding.

All manufacturers need to look at the Vulcan 650 template. The ergo fit offers 3 sizes on seat, bars and the foot controls as standard. Then we would be able to pick the bike on style, and not based on size.

I'm 6'-1 and I immediately felt very comfortable on the Yamaha Stryker. It's pretty long as well (99.6 inches) and the controls are forward. I saw your video on the new BMW R18, and while I love the looks, It doesn't look comfortable due to the heads limiting the forward position of the controls. I like the Yamaha Raider and the Honda VTX and I have also ridden a Honda Shadow with a forward control kit that's pretty comfortable.

In regards to this, I think Kawasaki are onto something with the Vulcan S and the ergofit system that they use, that allows different parts (handlebars pegs etc) from factory. Or a system like the Can Am uses on the Ryker trike that again allows adjustments. It doesn’t necessarily need to be the swing arms that are adjusted, if they make the bikes big enough to begin with, with multiple bar, seat and peg options available from factory, then it can fit multiple sizes of people quite easily.
@MrDarcy-OlMan

Yes that’s true. Ideally they would make bigger bikes in the first place with longer wheelbases and allow adjustable pegs etc

I’m 6f3 also and have your problem. It seems cruisers are the only solution. The Kawasaki Vulcan S even gives the option of ergo-fit, so you can change the seat, position of the footages and steering handle and it will be alright. But then again the cruisers are not my cup of tea. So what to do! Probably I’ll have to accept riding the bike I want isn’t exactly for my size so I’ll get cramped on a longer tour. Your suggestion that manufacturers should offer a longer wheelbase, higher frame or just more ways to adept is of course not economical feasible, alas. I’ll stay cramped I guess. Cheers for your nice video’s.

Thank you for covering this topic. Some friends recently introduced me to the world of cruiser motorcycles. While I love the specs of the Honda Rebel 500 (especially its weight and fuel efficiency) the bike has too short a wheelbase for me. I could stretch out my toes and almost reach the front axle. The bikes that are long enough for me (like a borrowed HD Dyna) are bigger and heavier than I need for hauling just one person plus luggage.

Don't you find the low seat height a problem when you put your feet down? I am tenuously interested, emphasis on tenuously, in a cruiser for the first time: just the Kawasaki Vulcan S. I have come to realise that feet-forward is not uncomfortable as my ''car'', a Can-Am F3-S has a foot-forward stance which doesn't shift any weight on to the base of my spine as I'd feared. I am concerned, though, that the Vulcan's low seat height may make paddling the bike around a chore as my legs will be too long. I am just short of 6'1'', but my inseam is only 32''. Interesting video. You are fast becoming one of my favourite channels.

There's definitely bikes out there for taller riders. Triumph Scrambler XE, Tiger 900RP or the KTM 790 Adventure for the dual sport chaps. Indian baggers have much more leg room if you're looking to stay with the cruiser market but if you're looking for a naked I'd suggest the Yamaha XSR900 or the XR1200 from HD. Plenty to chose from but we're the minority (taller chaps/lasses) when manufacturer consider who to build a bike around.

I now ride a Victory Cross country which is perfect for me, being a taller rider. However, for those riding smaller bikes, you can get footpeg lowering kits, and custom seats that allow you to slide back a bit. Another challenge for taller riders on smaller bikes is wind buffeting, causing lots of wind noise and helmet wobble. The answer to this is a high quality full face helmet (e.g. Shoei), and a Madstad windscreen and brackets (which push the windshield away from the bike allowing the air pressure to equalise on both sides). Another thing to consider is that taller people tend to have bigger feet. Most smaller bikes are designed for people with ballet-dancer size feet. Luckily there are aftermarket options for brake pedals. I have yet to come across a smaller engine bike that has a frame long enough for a taller rider. The best I have seen was the 125cc Sachs Madass; my first bike.

I ditched BMW GS's after having them for years because they were getting progressively taller and I am getting progressively older! Also, my knees don't take kindly to being cramped up these days so the seat/ footpeg ratio is important to me. I bought an HD cruiser (as you know!) because you can stretch out your legs and be more comfortable. Engine bars and highway pegs help even more. In fairness to HD, they sell so many different mods to make your bike fit you, you are almost spoiled for choice (eg tallboy seats or 'reach' seats, forward controls, bar risers etc. etc. etc. The trouble is, it's expensive to experiment. I wonder whether they could do the same scheme here in the UK that they do in the US where you can try demo seats from the dealerships that they let you borrow for a few days for a refundable deposit. I found with my Heritage that I was gradually sliding backwards on the stock seat (either from the huge torque or posture or a combination of both) I bought a Harley Sundowner seat after reading a few reviews and some youtube vids....much more seat support ...problem solved. An interesting topic and one the manufacturers should take note of.....in the west the average biker is ageing and getting bigger. Keep up the good work!
