I’ve watched two of your reviews, this one, and the r18, and I have to say you’ve found a way to be one of the most informative and concise presenters of useful information out there in a world full of crappy, drag-on, never coming to the point blather mouths. Well done Sir.

I am 6'4" and this video was very useful. I have a 33" inseam and totally understand the difficulty. I've owned 10+ motorcycles and the BMW R1200GSA has been the best fit for me overall. The BMW K1600GT that I have now is also great after modifying the pegs down a little bit as well. I also think the Kawasaki Versys 650 and 1000 are excellent tall rider choices!

Your series is extremely helpful! Thank you, thank you. I am 6'3" with a 33" inseam. You have just saved me loads of time and thought about bikes that I now know (or you have reinforced) that I will not fit on. For example, I know from sitting on Z650s and Z900s in the showroom that my knees cram up against the gas tank - no bueno. And, it's frustrating because they're great bikes. So, I will now look more at the Tenere, Africa Twin, and R18. I realize that they are not sport bikes, but if comfort and ergonomic safety are priorities, then so be it. I might have to get an adventure and a cruiser. I will get my wife to watch your video for evidence. Cheers, Mate!

Great work! At 6ft6 I spent much time on Cycle Ergo and around the showrooms. Trained for my license in 2022 on the Z650 and MT09 and they are somewhat cramped to shift and brake but completely OK. Lots of modern bikes have a bunch of design stuff like edges on the side of the tank which is where your knees are. Breathing possible on the V-Stroms, the 1050 in particular. Also the BMW GS models (even the 310), Africa Twin, NC750, NT1100, Tenere were good. The Versys is sort of small but fits. Scooters are pretty hopeless though, XMax and Beverly are okay-ish. I never sat on a HD though.

Its about time someone heard us tall/big blokes when it comes to choosing bikes. While i was a big harley fan, i was disappointed when their 2018 lineup arrived. I dwarfed most of their models. Switched to multistrada 950 since. I am glad i am not alone, 'coz when choosing bikes my no. 1 priority is to see whether i look good on it. (Size wise). By the way i am 6'2" and weighing 105kgs. Looking forward to more such videos. ✌

Amen. You couldn’t be more right. Sliding forward is a bid problem. Bring back the big slab seats of the 70s and 80s. My GS1000 was great. Bought a Goldwing without having ridden one thinking, big seat and big fairing and .........big mistake. I sat too low with respect to the angle of my thigh/hip joint. I had been convinced about a Versys but now I’m giving it a second thought. A review in Two Wheels years ago said that the R1200RT was very comfortable but the one I bought was ghastly in less than 45min. Like you satisfaction seems hard to come by in this modern world. Maybe I’ll stick to my old BMWs from the 80s. Really enjoyed the video. Stephen Tas.

Thanks very much for this video. I’m 6’7” so this is quite useful for me. I have had a NC750X, and an Africa Twin, and currently have a 2016 VFR800. The AT was the most comfortable, while the VFR is an acceptable compromise, as I wanted a last blast on something that at least looked a bit sporty. I was interested when the latest Soft Tail Standard came out, but now looking at your HD pics, I think most HD’s would be a no no. I reckon I will end up back on an adventure style bike purely because of the overall seat height and seat to foot peg relationship.
@BikesILike
@BikesILike 4 жыл бұрын
You're welcome Mark! I need to ask, did you like the NC750X? I'm considering that bike for myself.
@markbright7845
@markbright7845 4 жыл бұрын
BIKES I LIKE yes, I had the DCT version in metallic blue with silver accents. My previous Africa Twin was also DCT, and the reason that I changed was a mistake that included a very slow CRF250L in between the two. Really liked the NC750X especially the miles per gallon (High sixties plus) and I used it to commute the sixty four miles each way to work and back on national speed limit two lane roads. I added a top box and taller touring screen. The only downside was that if you want to tour with soft panniers or a drybag over the back seat, you have to unload when you want to top up the fuel tank, as the tank lives under the back seat. The reason I changed for the VFR was that it was on my shortlist of “final bikes” and came up at a good price with less than 10,000 miles on it. I hope to keep this until I retire, when the sudden halt to commuting can dictate THE final bike, or no bike, but a sporty car instead. My wife does not go on my bike, and would really be happier if I gave it up altogether. Just remembered that I test rode the CB500X when I was trying out the NC. The 500 felt more torquey, but the NC had the overall better top speed, although not by much, but the economy of the NC was amazing. There is a gut in Aus who has a KZbin channel NC750X Stuff, that I followed, and he goes all over the place on his.
@BikesILike
@BikesILike 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the excellent reply Mark, I really appreciate that. Lots of great info. Your thoughts on final bikes, retiring and then possibly a sporty car entirely parallel my thought processes as well. It must be an age thing :)

You have the standard height that I expect most manufactures use for designing ergo parameters, not too tall, not too short. I was 5' 7" until I started to shrink. Now I sometimes fall over at intersections as I cannot get a secure toe hold when stopped. Seat height is the critical element for myself and my group over ALL other criteria. My Goldwing Valkyrie (Cobin seat) fits me well. My MV Agusta Brutale (seat too tall) often had broken turn signals due to tip over until I relocated them.

The reason that the duck fits you is because it’s much taller than other bikes in its category to facilitate maximum lean angle (65 degrees). This is because it is a track bike modified for the street, as opposed to other bikes in its category, which are street bikes modified for the track. BTW: the category is not super sport, but super bike. Supersport is a category below super bike. Just sayin’

You're missing something rather huge ... some people are long in the leg and shorter in the torso ... some have longer and shorter arms - larger hands and smaller hands. You can be 6ft tall, short in the leg and long in the torso making a smaller bike a perfect fit! Baseline height is no indication of overall fit ... literally swinging a leg over is still going to be the absolute Gold Standard for how to fit yourself to a prospective ride.

I’m actually happy but not too surprised the R18 fits you. BMW engineers I reckon have it right. There focus from the start is the cruiser market & MOST cruiser guys I know are not shortish. No offence to hobbits!🤭To me forward controls aren’t the be all & end all. I am just on 6’ so I am actually rapt your “Mini Me” fits it!🤣 Very well thought out exercise.👏🏼😎Honestly the only bike seat I found comfortable is on my 2003 R1150R BOXER, yes boxer. Hence why I’m ok having ordered the R18. I did order the no cost option🤭, of the 20mm higher seat. You’re doing a great job with these reviews/videos. No BS & enjoyable to watch. Maybe next you could do a full size cut out of yourself & send it to the dealers? Then have them sit “you” on the various model bikes, take pics & send them back?...😂👍🏼

Regarding your statement "Most Cruiser Guys I know are not shortish"; There is not a specific demographic for "cruiser guys" and people shorter than 6' are not "hobbits or shortish".Excessively tall people are the mostly the result of consuming growth hormone administered to cattle to fortify growth (banned in the EU). A large number of excessively tall people are not natural and reflect being cattle hormone poisoned over a long term. It is too bad that your brain has developed inversely proportioned to your height.

I have to disagree about the Versys 1000. I am 6'5", and I find the bike very comfortable. I've done plenty of 500+ miles days on it, and even a few ~1,000 miles days.

@@BikesILike A 2015 model. Full stats: 6'5", 50 chest, 40 waist, 36 inseam, 260 lbs. Each person's specific build may make a difference. The only complaint I have about the seat is that after 3.5 years and ~60,000 miles I had to replace the seat because the cover was tearing.

Thanks Mark! Feet on the ground will be more tricky as the width of the seat will have an affect on the result. I'd perhaps be doing too much guessing but I will explore your suggestion ;)

You have the standard height. Almost all bikes will suit your size. As you may be buying your first bike, do not buy too big or too small. Buy 500 cc or bigger and plan on trading it when your experience determines what best will suit your needs. My advice would be a Moto Guzzi V7 (750cc, 50 hp), a Husqvarna SVARTPILEN (700cc), or many Japanese models of weight and engine size. Both the models list are ideal starter bikes as they are not over or under power, are light weight, have high style, have significant performance, quality and would qualify as impressive keepers as well. Yes there are many other bikes that are as well, good starter bikes. If you are the type (as myself) that will be inclined to drop the bike occasionally when learning, buy something of less value as you will be depreciating it with damage.
