I always love the little cafes you find. Even if the food isn't outstanding, they still create memories because they are unique. I mean, if you've seen one McD's or Starbucks, you've seen them all. These places are special.

This was an extra fun video, Eric--your spirits were definitely high. The cafe at around 10:00 is 知布泊(chippudomari) on the coast NE of Shari. The lettering on the building is "Coffee Chip Tomari" (sic). The breed of dog is a blue Australian cattle dog. There is a liquor store next door, "Shichijo". The name of the dog is "Puffy". The cafe has been around for about 40 years and has consistently great review on Google Maps. The "Road to the Sky/Heaven" is just east of Shari and is easy to get to by bike/car. It is marked as a monument on gmaps. I would have made the same joke about yagi, too, and would suffer the same "what a weirdo" looks 🙂 The house with the goat and the "carport" is Kiyosato Ihatov Hostel 清里イーハトーヴ ホステル (Kiyosato IHATOV Hostel), and the community center around 29:15 is きよ〜る（きよさと情報交流施設 "Kiyoru (Kiyosato Information Exchange Facility)".

29:57 it could be a particular variety of beet that isn't red, like I know of a golden beet that I love the taste of but isn't that deep red. The root looks more like a daikon than a beet though. Or it could be a turnip but turnips are not related to beets in any way so I doubt they'd call them beets in Japanese.

Large beets are probably sugar beets. That is one way they make granulated sugar instead of sugar cane.

Yeah I'm happy with my 200cc bike. It does what I need it to do and has enough HP for the speed we travel in Japan. If I got a 4 stoke I'd go up to 400cc.

Yea, I'm happy with having 400 since we do trips on it and I haul a lot of gear for camping and videos and such, even with both of us on Scooty and all the gear he can easily do highway speeds. I don't see any need for anything more. I do want a small bike (125 or so) for diddling around town though. Must...resist...spending....money. haha -E
