You are truly a lifesaver! I am so grateful and thankful for you. As a single working mom to 4 girls who is also putting herself through school sometimes the budget isn’t big enough for car repairs. I’ve been in a position in which I HAVE TO have a car; no friends or family nearby and school, work and kids don’t stop. Your videos made it possible for a mom with NO MECHANICAL KNOWLEDGE to change her radiator and no sooner did I do that the heater hose failed. I follow your videos step by step pausing in between and you have completely saved by behind. 5 gals from Illinois THANK YOU!!!

Keep doing what your doing.....your setting a strong example for your daughters to follow. My hats off to you!

Thank you David!!! I just did this repair on my wife's 2009 Grand Caravan. It took 30 minutes and cost $7.44. Just a couple of notes that weren't covered in the video: After the engine has cooled down and the radiator cap isn't hot to the touch, remove the cap and drain about a gallon of the coolant out. This will remove most of the coolant from the heater lines you are about to cut. You will need to slowly refill the radiator with the captured coolant after the fix is complete. Don't forget you will need 4 hose clamps and about a foot of 5/8" heater hose. Good luck!

Took my vehicle to AAMCO to check where's the leak coming from since they just recently rebuilt my tranny. Gave me a pitch of, "we normally charge $900 but since you just got a service from us we'll give you a discount and only charge you $600. Told them I'll be over to show me the hose. After seeing which hose he was trying to charge me $600 to repair, I wanted to choke the dude. This video saved me hundreds of dollars. Thank you

David, Great video! thank you! I too bought the plastic replacement and changed it, Now Dorman (47238HP)makes it in Aluminum for like $10. I kept a spare(aluminum) one with me, as my plastic one I knew was going to fail! I made it from Maine to Georgia when it failed , just a state short of my destination .....Florida.... anyways , I smelt that distinctive smell of sweet anti freeze, luckily I caught it right away, I pulled in the gas station, let it cool off a little, pulled it off and changed , I only lost about a cup of anti freeze, back on the road within a half hour! Now, at 188K miles on my 3.8L that other one right next to it started to leak, I am going to try your brass fitting, great idea! Thanks for making great videos it helps us the "do it yourselfers" ....

I've never done a repair under the hood before, but I used your video (along with one other that showed the actual removal and replacement) to fix my t&c. Worked great, too. Just got back from a test drive and its holding up perfectly. A few notes that might be worth including in the video description is the hose size. A 3/4" hose is too big, so I went the next size down and it worked perfectly. Also rather than removing the entire assembly, you can just cut the two hoses from the Y assembly and only remove the Y assembly from the vehicle, leaving the two hoses where they are. Also having paper towels directly under as well as a drip pan under the vehicle was nice to help prevent any spillage from hitting the ground. All in all this took me about 30 minutes from start to finish (excluding time spent going to get parts from the store). Very nice video and thanks for the repair tip. Saved me tons of money and made me feel accomplished at the same time.

Jaron Davis Thanks Jaron for the comment. I agree about leaving it on the vehicle. @MotorCityMechanic9 жыл бұрын
Aurea Cepero I would make sure to air in the coolant system and that the cooling fans work when the temp goes past the half way mark on the temp gauge. It depends also on how hot the engine got. To hot and for too long could cause the heads to warp or other internal engine isses

Transmission flushes are done using flush machines that pump fluid thru the transmissions and force as much of the older fluid out. Most machines use 12-16 qts of fluid. I know of no way to do this without a flush machine.

I did this today on a 2008 Town and Country. It took me about 40 minutes and cost about 8 bucks total for 1 foot of heater hose from an automotive store, some clamps and a brass T connector from Lowes. The hardest part was getting the old clamps off because of the tight working space.

Just did this repair as well, in the parking lot while at work, took maybe a half hour (not including the shopping for parts). Would have been a lot quicker even if the existing hoses weren't so frozen onto the metal. After the clamps were gone, I still had to cut them away and then trim them shorter. I really didn't even need to disconnect (and then reconnect) the rear portions against the firewall. Only thought of that after the fact, and that was half the struggle. But all in all it was an easy and cheap fix. Thank you! The brass part mentioned was still at Lowe's and still $3.17 as of this writing. And another commenter mentioned the heater hose size, definitely buy the 5/8" size even though the brass part says 3/4". 3/4" hose is very loose, not a good idea to use it and try to clamp it tight enough to seal.

I installed your mod this morning and it is a fantastic solution to a gross mis-design on the part of Chrysler. This brass "T" isn't going anywhere. I had the plastic one on there since I did a beside the road repair and can tell you the plastic one (Gates) would have never lasted around that ambient and internal heat, not to mention the vibrations in the engine well. One thing I would like to mention is, when you push the hoses up against the brass block, do just that and more important, the clamps nearly have to touch the brass block. If you have them too far away from the block, they will compress and slide off the barbs. Thanks again for a fantastic find on that part. Lowes charged $3.01 for it. By the way, where are you located? I am in the NASA area of Houston Texas. See ya! Tim

Automotive DIY! Dodge Caravan / VW Routan minivans take note: This vid is the gospel truth! Our 2010 Routan suffered this exact problem on the highway yesterday evening. The plastic wye on the heater loop was split completely across the bottom. It crumbled in my hand when I removed it & this vid was exactly what’s needed to keep it from repeating. It was easy to tell this had happened before (we bought the van used) because the plastic wye was an aftermarket replacement (mentioned in the vid as shite) - actually good because the hose clamps were already there. $3.79 @ Lowe’s and 20 min work (-beer). Done. Disclaimer: I am not handy with automotive drama.

Hate that the issue happened to you but glad you found my channel and took the time to comment and to watch. I never like plastic connections on coolant hoses and this is one reason why. It just doesnt hold up great over time. Make sure to subscribe and check out my other videos as well.

+MotorCity Mechanic just one question. Is it gonna do any harm in the future since is not a plastic part?
@MotorCityMechanic9 жыл бұрын
MrGreateinstein I see no reason concern. It will be fine.

Just did the job on 2010 Town & Country. Had to trim back some of the outer protective cover, using flashlight at night made it little tougher but got it done. Also, one of the hoses has a bit of a curve in it so trimmed that hose back to take out the slight curve which made it go on the T easier. I used a Shark bite 3/4 T.

Thx for vid. I had a shop replace this 2 years ago with supposedly metal parts and the radiator guy replaced them 2 weeks ago with plastic. I wish I had seen this vid 1st. I would have saved over $500.

Thanks David, the other Y (the lower hose) got some leak on my 2012 Routan. It seems to have a adapter. If I could reuse that part, hopefully some 5/8 pipe could help me there.

Wish I had known about this before. I bought the Gates replacement assembly. It was over $100! Since then, I have learned that a "Y" tube is available to fix this. Also, I had a hard time getting the bottom hose off the firewall. This solution would have been much less expensive, and would have been a quick fix.

Thought I had a bad head gasket, took it to the dealership, 110.00 to look at it, and 700.00 to fix it. Unemployed, so every dime counts. Thank you so much. hope i can find the rear leak also, that they said was leaking too.

Great video! 3/4 inch PEX Tee and a piece of 5/8 inch heater hose. Cheap fix and better than original. Mine split today on my 2009 Caravan and from the looks of things it was already replaced by a previous owner using gear clamps and another crappy plastic Y. I was stuck at the curb with minimal tools but I was able to bypass the Y by connecting just the one line and plugging the other line with a spare OEM lug nut. It was a perfect fit! I checked my 2008 Caravan at home (yes I have two Caravans) and it had the Tee fix already done by its previous owner. Yay! Thank you.
