Wow, you did a whole lot of extra work for no reason
@bdoggbrz10 ай бұрын
I agree. Just did this. All it took was a small ratchet with a 10 mm socket for the two small bolts holding the thermostat housing in place,and a bucket to catch the coolant. About 15 minutes.

@@bdoggbrzso you didn’t pull the air box or power steering res?

@@vinchenzoswaylo absolutely not. I have a 2014 dodge grand caravan. Only un bolted the two bolts on the housing.

Judging from some of the questions. some of these people should stick to sitting behind a desk. This is about as simple as It gets.

You mentioned twice that you would get the torque value for the housing. What is that value?

got the 128 code, but not overheating, and we do have good heat.. How much time do we have till this issue goes critical... thanks

My check engine light won’t come off after I replaced the thermostat:( what should I do ?
@catfisher4208 ай бұрын
Good video but the job could have been done in the time it took you to remove the air box that doesn't need to be removed. If you just used a simple ratchet and socket you wouldn't need all that space. But yes I also recommend getting the OEM thermostat as I am changing mine again within 6 months. First one stuck open. Now the O'Reilly's one is stuck shut making my s*** overheat.

Thanks for the video. I have the same van. I have overheating problem when stop and go traffic but no issues while driving on highway. Fan is working, no leaks or noise from water pump, just replaced the engine coolant temp sensor, could thermostat be the culprit?
@joshford7828 Жыл бұрын
I have the same van with the same issue. Had the serpentine belt changed, lost power and the same overheat issue. Changed the coolant temp sensor, no go, changed the tensioner pulley and idler pulley and have the power back. Going to change the thermostat this week and hope that fixes it.

@@joshford7828I’m having the same problem. Did changing the thermostat fix the issue?
@joshford7828 Жыл бұрын
@calebhancock8369 no it didn't fix the issue. The ac compressor was bad. At the very least the pulley and clutch on it were going, which stressed the engine and caused the overheating. I had a loss of power which turned out to be an idler pulley , so I changed that with the serpentine belt.

do i need to change the whole coolant to replace the thermostat? I got dec po128
@jimd1944Ай бұрын
no. Just drain out about a quart of coolant before removing the thermostat and there should be very little loss when you remove it. after replacing the thermostat, just top off the coolant level.

He only jacked it up a little bit so that he could put his drain pan underneath. An alternative would be to just drain about a quart from the radiator petcock which would not require you jack it up (just have a pan underneath the radiator to catch the coolant).
