THANK YOU! The local dealer service dept appointment schedule was backed up for several days, and so I (with neophyte car repair skills) went to Lowes, found the exact same PEX brass fitting, used some extra hose clamps and heater hose I had around the house, and fixed my split (factory plastic) fitting for $4. Avoiding a $300 repair bill, and getting it done today in 1 hour, including the trip to Lowes. Thanks for your efforts in putting this online. Well done!

@@CarsandCoding I had convinced myself I'd just jack it up after going to O'reilly's and them pushing the entire hose and OEM plastic part assembly on me for $159 plus tax. I didn't buy it and then went home and started looking at youtube and the moment I saw your video I was angry at O'reilly's for not offering this alternative as I had no idea it existed. Makes way more sense to remove and replace the defective part if the hoses are all in good shape and when I got to your tool list I'm lilke I've got all that, no trimmer big enough but I have a very sharp utility knife and it worked fine. Heads up to those using the T solution instead of the Y. I did this in my '08 Town & Country and while the repair fixed the leak, it also altered the flow of coolant and prevented the heater core from getting proper flow. I had to switch to a Y to fix it. Mine was a 4.0L Limited and the heater core hose was the high point, so when the pressure dead ended into the T, the path of least resistance went away from the heater core since it was up higher.

William Yup just happened to me. Im hoping I can get it to go up somehow by maybe taking some of the angle off.
@deedeegregory37014 жыл бұрын
Always reuse existing factory hose clamps. They never lose tension and maintain equal pressure all the way around the hose. This can not be said with the screw type supplied with the kit. Good idea to replace both "Y" Pipes" while you are in there. Its a matter of time before the other one leaks. It's easier to get to with the main one already disconnected, as well as hood up and tools out.

I replaced both of the Y pipes with aluminum and on the y pipe near the firewall, I also had to replace the 90 degree connector with Denso 80462 Quick Connector on my 2014 caravan because the previous connector had the cheap plastic crimp and had to throw that out. The Denso hose connector clicked onto the hard line like the Factory part and all I had to do is clamp the 5/8" hose onto it.

Here's a quick tip, a small Tupperware container around 4 x 6 x 1-1/2 inch deep under the cut hoses will catch the dripping antifreeze which can be poured back into the overflow tank and will reduce the amount of antifreeze to clean up.
@NuckinusFuticus6 жыл бұрын
Wont change the fact that coolant is leaking and a leak will only get worse over time. Wether you DIY or take it to a shop a coolant leak will eventually leave you stranded

The most important thing about the repair is that only a metal fitting will last. Anything else like nylon or plastic will fail because the temp. at the back of the engine are too high for anything but metal.

Fine outcome. But I would advise everyone who watches these videos, Not to cut the hose, but the 1-1/4" abs clamps. This would ensure you the proper size hose. In other words, cut the black plastic clamps carefully thru the middle, (I used dremel tool w/ cutting blade) without cutting into the hose material. Also, Never use those "Screw-type" clamps, use original pressure-adjusting clamps. Mechanics would know, that all these heat channeling hoses expand, and the clamp needs to expand with them. That's why this design

My 2008 dodge caravan return heater hose Y-pipe is leaking. There's a quick connect between this Y-pipe and the tubing returning to the water pump. Do you know how to operate this quick connector? Can't seem to find anything on them.
@CarsandCoding7 жыл бұрын
treborhi that's not a quick connect. You have to cut it off. Watch the video.
@LayZeeDawg7 жыл бұрын
There were quick connectors used for one model year on both hose assemblies, I just cant remember which ones. You need a tool to remove them if your reusing them otherwise snip the two small black cross pieces, slip off the black part then the white inner piece will come off.

cuda2000, the video is of the Y-pipe for the supply to heater cores. My problem is the return from heater cores. You can see the quick connect at 5:27 of the video. It's to the right of the piece you were working on, where it connects to the hard tubing.
