Tip - Spring Plate Retainers: A 2" long 3/4" pvc pipe on the bench, flip the valve over with spring plate onto pvc, then push. Retainers fall into pvc pipe with no worry of them flying across the room. A socket will also work. You're Welcome!

I just wanted to comment and thank you for the video. I took my 2016 Ram 2500 in for a water pump recall and they're saying I need $1,800 EGR cleaning parts and labor. Of course I declined and turned to KZbin. Watching your video makes it look insanely simple and gives me all the confidence I need. You're saving a lot of people a lot of money, $1,000 labor is what this dealer wanted plus parts. I liked and subscribed as well.

On that year you only need to replace the crankcase filter....egr valve and cooler cleaning is not needed. It was part of the 67,500 service on the older trucks but not the 2016....and that’s per the service info from Chrysler. I hate when I hear shops trying to upsale all 3 items when it doesn’t apply to the year they own. It’s like a rubber stamp that they use on all year models when selling services.....lets me know they are not checking to see what’s recommend for each vehicle. Been thinking about doing a video about that topic.....just not sure what to call it yet. I need a short title.

Hey Dave, first, thank you for the videos. Secondly, this is the second time I did this & this time I used Simple Green instead of the EGR cleaning fluid from Mopar. If anything, I think it maybe did a better job. Plus instead of the fill up & let it sit at an angle & such, I had plenty of fluid to just immerse it in a small Rubbermaid storage box. Slosh it around, work the valve, run a brush around and through it, etc.

while hitting a mountain carrying 3 cars on I84 east bound. my truck began to overheat and began spitting coolant out of the overflow hole in the reservoir. as i made it to my destination of east windsor ct. i assumed the weight may have caused strain to my engine. this is my daily route. I've never had a problem with my truck in this area. however, returning from my destination heading directly to the dealer in carmel ny. i experienced the same issue. constant over heating. i did make it to the dealer. i later received a call from the dealer saying my EGR valve was blown. i was told the price to repair was 2500 bux. smh. i am no technician, but thanks to your video i know what i am telling the dealer this monday 8/1/16. thanks again to you. keep the videos coming i really appreciate what you do
@MotorCityMechanic8 жыл бұрын
What they probably mean is that the EGR cooler is bad not the valve. The coolant can cause an overheat that you.cant see externally. It either steam cleans the tube between the cooler and egr valve or cause the soot in the tube to turn to an oil mess due to the antifreeze mixing with the soot.

Thank you so much for this video. Just had a code pop up on a 2009 motor home with the 6.7 Cummins and it was related to the EGR valve. Only 26k miles on the engine, and just over 200 hours of idle so I'm not sure why it got so sticky but I pulled it out, used purple power in the valve and let it soak for a few hours. Cleaned it up and popped it back in the engine and voila, no more code. Good thing, since we are just 2 days away from a 2000 mile road trip. Saved me at least a grand. Only one note: To the guy at Cummins who decided it'd be a great idea to paint the entire engine red, including the banjo bolt threads and the screw heads holding the EGR actuator on, fuuuuuuck you. I spent so much time removing paint in the phillips head just to be able to remove the screws. Had to brush the banjo bolt threads to remove paint and use More than half my time disassembling was dealing with that shit. Nice that Chrysler didn't do that on the Rams.

I do not have to remove the valve, I hook in at the temp sensor, remove the egr actuator, and replace it with a thumb screw plate so I can open and close the valve. The system cleans the intake, grid heater and the combustion chamber,egr, egr cooler, turbo, and dpf. Basically everything "tip to tailpipe" Excellent video however, life would have been easier 9 yrs ago with TerraClean though

+Funkamedic I don't know about that. My take on the exhaust break is to keep the turbo actuator moving so that it has a better chance of not sticking over time. Then again each time you turn the key on the actuator moves and performs a self test

You have helped me tremendously with your videos. Please keep up the good work. I'm looking for torque specs for the following. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 1.) EGR Valve Bolts = 4 10mm? 2.) Band Clamp's (Valve & Cooler)? 3.) EGR Cooler Nuts (Rear) = 2 15mm? Thank You
