@spazmoso You dan't scout then first or you would never get there. Part of the trick to riding dunes is knowing how much throttle to give to just get to the top with a little momentum. Sometimes you over cook it and crash, that's just tough BUT it is ALOT better than under cooking it and getting stuck and having to go back down.

Motorcycle Adventure Dirtbike TV May I ask a practical question? On your L-S epic ride, you and Darren rode KTM 690 Adv rigs. Considering the dodgy fuel quality and dearth of spare parts, mechanics, etc in developing countries, would you have been better off with a carburetor and air-cooled rigs? (like Suzuki DR650 or similar from Honda or Yamaha) Thanks for your response and wish you many happy trails.

osimnod Motorcycle Adventure Dirtbike TV I second this question. I'm preparing for a similar trip, but in reverse :) There are people that have completed the journey on DR650s (www.horizonsunlimited.com/tech/suzuki-dr650-prep). Each bike has positive and not-so-positive elements I guess. Love the work that you've produced by the way guys!

Yeah, I am familiar with your channel, I use to be bestofthelakes... Found you last winter and have been a big fan ever since, but I started my own Motorcycle vlog thanks to you and many others like you... I will never be able to duplicate that great accent you have though! I really liked your New Zealand adventure! that was really fun to watch and looked like you enjoyed it too!

@spazmoso Search KTM Tours and you might find something. I would suggest going to New Zealand as they have a great motorcycle Adventure Tour industry, particularly in the South Island.

did u run into alot of razorbacks when going over the dunes?it looked like u had to get some speed up to make and goin over a blank edge would definitly cut your short.did u have to scout um out first?

That was one of my first attempts. I'm a little better at making the films now. I don't know if your familiar with my edog200 channel, but there are other great adventures on New Zealand and Victorian High Country.

Why you choose to use metzeler sahara 3 and not a more off road tyres for this kind of trips with ADV Bikes? (Like MT21 Pirelli) (awesome videos and beatiful landscapes thanks for sharing mate)

Hi MadTV, love your videos for the info you give on the different motorcycles you review. I am 52yrs old and just beginning riding on a 30yr old 175 two stroke dirt bike which i ride on the road also as a commuter. my question is, I am going to buy a new all round bike that will hopefully last me for many years. I loved your vid on the 500x RR. however 3 people have said if you are going to buy 1 bike get something of decent CC size as if you go small dual sport you will only want more later. could you do the Simpson desert crossing with heaps of sand on a 245 kg Africa twin without gear or is it just too heavy. would i be better with the 500x RR, as this is substantially lighter and still good on the road. thanks for any advise you can give. the Africa Twin just looks like its already set up as a dual sport, just worried about the weight if i drop it in the sand or on a track. 500x RR stage 3, i beleive is 206kg without gear

Suzuki DR650, second hand, set up for adventure, is the best entry level into the sport. They come up all the time. Avoid ones with muffler modifications unless it is really sorted and fuel economy isn't compromised, or that it's too noisy. This bike give you a taste. A highly capable bike that can take you anywhere. Trade it in when you want something more. But many people stick with them. There is a whole army of DR riders in Australia.
