Wahoo, I was there!! Didn't know there was a video of it...And I know exactly where I was sitting...Great days...The bike park was absolutely choka. It was so slippery on the clay of the carpark at the end, you could barely walk on it let alone ride out. Great days...I was on my Z1000Mkll...

Good on the ABC for the coverage on the day. Presented a very technical endurance race which by the way was run almost 40 years ago. Oran Park really was a good setup for this type of race, puddles and all. Hats off to those riders who finished without falling. Need some sponsors to bring endurance racing back to life.

I was there for that race 5 Ducatis started and 5 finished! My wife bought her 500 Pantah that very year. Most reliable Ducati we owned. Wished we still had it.

Killed by nostalgia. I spent countless weekends at Oran Park as a teenager. Never heard anything as terrifying as the sound of these bikes at the end of the straight. Think I was 12 years old the first time.

I loved my 1979 Yamaha XS 1100 Special. Brilliant how they thought to change out the driveshaft and replace with chain and gain all the benefits from that. What a fluke to see this video. Thank you!

Those XS11s Won everything in those days......what a strong bike they were....great video...thanks for posting.

Yes ,but they had to be converted from schaft drive to chain drive first.

A great race and those riders took a beating out there. Love these type motorcycles and wish they would make a come back. They are an alround bike. Clearence, speed, good handling, and they look & sound great. Plus your legs aren't stretched out and your back isn't in a bind like most bikes are today- absolutely murder on your back.

The Honda CB1100r is a beautiful bike. Didn't import to US, but makes a great rider/racer if you can find one. They were made especially for this kind of racing.

Mal Pitman tracked that bike down and is restoring it. May have been finished by now. It was mostly still complete and had sat around a lot in a shed, even had Dellorto carbs like car Webers. Not in the 800 though.

Proper bikes - I ride a 78 GS 750 & an 88 GSX 11 EF. I'd love to see these boys that ride fire blades etc on a GS or a Zed etc see how they twitch! Lmao!

Exactly. I currently ride an cb1100f 1983. You need to know your bike them days. And know it well. Modern bike even small weak woman can ride and handle them.

Thanks for uploading this, I thought I would just give it a watch for a few minutes, ended up watching the whole lot. Forgive my ignorance, but I have never seen an XS1100 Facebook before. That Pantah certainly had something to prove, brilliant. Although I think this may have been easier with one of those Kiwi jet boats.

Scott Stevens no.32 on the Z1100 , wearing the 'Green Meanie ' leathers , has a riding style reminiscent of Murray Sayle , to my mind at least .

These engines look huge & they really don't lean as much in cornering as today's MotoGp riders who scrape their knee pads.

Great to see the old bikes again but the blatantly pro-Honda commentary spoilt it.
