1:40 - When we did the Support Bikers Guinness World Record Poker Run we had a participant (it wasn't me but - who shall remain nameless) whose tourpack bracket actually broke through the underside of the tourpack because they overloaded the tourpack rack. These weight specs are no joke and are not to be disregarded or taken lightly (yes, pun intended). On a related side note: whether or not you pack right or overload, riders must be aware that the bike's center of gravity will change versus what riders are accustomed to for their around home riding. If you don't practice riding with all your baggage, you should ride more cautiously starting your trip until you're "used" to riding with the weight and balance changes.

Great advice. It's important to balance the weight and not go over the limits. Something else to consider is the Total Weight the motorcycle is rated to carry. The max added weight a RG limited can carry is 428 pounds (including any accessory, rider, passenger, and luggage)

This is important. I have a friend and our plan was to ride 1 day and go home the next day. But I was looking at his bike as if packing his whole house.lols. I was like bro lols. We are laughing like crazy. We are joking like, I hope you're not moving to a new house. The whole 10-hour drive is not tiring since we probably laugh like crazy for the whole 10 hours. Riders should have the initiative to bring what is needed.

Great advice! I pretty much just put all of my heaviest gear in a multipurpose motorcycle bag and strap it down to the passenger seat when I travel cross country. That way I don’t have to worry about what I put in my tour pack and bags. The most important thing NOT to do is bring junk you don’t need. Keep the clothes and shoes to a minimum. Keep the food to a minimum. Bringing all kinds of junk for emergencies is unnecessary too. When you’re strapping gear to your bike make sure you have as many points of contact as possible, make sure your straps and nets are tight and secure, and be sure to periodically check your gear as you ride. Gear will shift and you may have to adjust your straps during the trip.

On long fun trips we only packed 1 pr jeans each, socks, undies & a couple bandannas. We bought t-shirts in the road. Leather jackets, 🧤, walking shoes. Business trips were enough clothes for a week. His in one saddle bag, mine in the other. Anything else was behind me on the luggage rack. If it wasn’t riding right he’d stop and let me readjust. He detested riding in the rain. Always pulled over & waited. Only dropped it once in Nashville when we were on a hill (driveway) waiting to pull out into traffic. His foot slipped and I fell off & rolled down the hill. Laughed my @ss off after I stopped rolling. No one was hurt. Best trip we ever took. Good, I miss him! 🪽😢

This is timely information, as I just read about MotoGaint. He lost his leg in a recent motorcycle accident. I believe he was overpacked on his motorcycle and improperly secured his items. Right before the accident some flew out of his bags. Give me your opinion. It is an excellent case study. He ironically filmed the situation. I love his content and have no ill intent towards him, but it is illustrative. This is a very important subject and we will all do well to pay attention. I've always been a little confused about the tour pack weight. Ok it says 30lbs. Is that a combination of pack and rack? If I'm thinking right it would be a total of both. Some don't have a rack and it would seem that to me the weight on the bearing surface of the mount is what is critical. So adding 10 more on top would in theory be overweight
