In this final episode sand is the challenge for many riders.
Come along with Dave Darcy of Motorcycle Adventure Dirtbike TV as he embeds in the challenging 2023 BMW GS Enduro Safari, Cairns to Darwin. It's a tough relentless adventure over 7 days and 3000 dirt kilometres and Dave's there to catch all the action and fun.

2023 BMW GS ENDURO SAFARI - CAIRNS TO DARWIN
It’s hard to identify that point in time when I realised, I was riding in a fair dinkum BMW Enduro Safari. Was it Day 2, punching out 570 kilometres of unforgiving dirt roads smothered in hand sized rocks, sand and endless bull dust pits? Or was it Day 3, forging deep river crossings and endless twin trail on a huge cattle station the size of a small country in Europe.
I’m now sitting in Darwin, still astride my BMW 1250 GS Trophy looking down at my trip metre that reads, 3,344.4 kilometres. I’m still recovering from what was arguably one of my best days riding I’ve had on a Beemer. Miles Davis, long time BMW off road Guru, had cooked up a mighty crescendo for Day 7, the final day of this Cairns to Darwin ride.
Day 7 had every riding condition for an adventure imaginable and it highlighted the versatility of my Rhino. It started with a 200-kilometre black top section that we legally, the speed limit is 130 ks, covered in around an hour forty mins. Then onto some amazing twisty black top through open farm country before we settled in for the main meal, a blast through a private cattle station on billiard table smooth dirt, four lanes wide with sweeping corners perfectly designed for power sliding.
Despite their width, I still managed to overcook one corner and do a Wayne Gardner esque run into the grass before anxiously looking around to ensure no one saw my foopy. There was a deep river crossing thrown in for good measure, some more twisty black top before finishing on some rutted single trail through a pandanis palm grove and abandoned railway track. Quite a crescendo!
This Beemer clan do things large, so let’s return to the beginning, 7 days earlier. The Saturday afternoon rendezvous was at the opulent Shangri-La Hotel on the waterfront of Cairns. Nothing but the best for our introduction and start to the trip.
I’ve ridden a couple of BMW Safaris that were organised and lead by Chris and Anthea Urqhart and Shane Booth from Moto Development. The events run like a swiss watch but this Safari event was different.
This was an Enduro event and from the first briefing it was obvious more would be expected from riders. Punching out big miles safely and consistently in the outback is a whole new skill set for many riders who wouldn’t ever dream of going there without support.

What a good time! I thought about the guys struggling through the soft sand patches and how hard it is to ride going slow. And how I used to ride a standing wheelie at 40+ mph through them with no trouble.... 40 years ago. Now I'm struggling to keep enough speed to not just tip over. When I was in my 20's it was easy and almost never fell. Now I hit the ground (dirt, sand, rocks, etc) before I realize I am off balance. Riding fast off road is for young riders with fast reactions... Thanks for the great ride video!

Hi Dave i hope you are good mate. Just want you to know I’m a big fan of the show, been watching you for years now! This is a bit off topic as its a Bmw upload but I’m just commenting because its your latest and you will hopefully see it and reply 🤞🏻. I have a 2020 Yamaha t7 and weigh 80kg give or take 5kg depending on the time of year, if i travel i travel light. What suspension upgrade would you recommend? I have done off roading locally in Lancashire England and in wales on some pretty technical terrain and found it ok but dropped through the stroke quickly when things got a bit faster and rougher. Im an mtb rider of many years and ex pro motorcycle tech of 12 years so have set the standard suspension as good as it can be for me. My question to you is what upgrade out of the many available would you personally recommend for a man my weight. You have done so many more miles than me off road on the t7 and know its limits, i value your opinion and any advise and help you can give me 👍🏻

Rally Raid Products open cartridge for harder. K-tech is also good but doesn't take the big hits as well. Have a look at the suspension comparison we did

In sand whipped up to the consistency of cream a 2 feet deep. I'm not sure there are many riders who wouldn't be paddling on any bike.

you need a bf goodey for a rear tire... im at 75k kms.. still counting, rural dirt shit roads all the way... you nearly inspired me to try a scorpion from pirelli but i just cant go past the goodeys. even rip a nice burnout on gravel on the reg... still get the k's.. did 50k with a tek screw in my last set... never went flat, wore the head of the screw all the way down... was funny as F

@Toonces311 yeah that's why I have 6 gs's at home and did the enduro day 4 and 5 route a week before the enduro. Not on a gs mind you. I have to carry luggage and can't afford to be 300kg plus
