Dave Darcy, the shooter producer of MAD TV and Editor at Large of Australian Adventure Bike Magazine buys a 2023 Heritage edition Husqvarna FE 501 with the intent on building a cracking adventure mount.
The build is now complete and Dave and Nugget head to the rugged Victorian High Country with two new mates, Tom the Stalker and Flash Jamie for a two day motorcycle adventure.
It's Daves first ride on his newly built Husky, let's see how she performs.

Great vid Dave, love the high country. The definition of steep is when you can feel it on Gopro footage! An idea- since MADTV are about the only ones who do proper riding of adv bikes over multiple days on proper tracks and go into detail about stuff like suspension, how about a camera mount down by the side so we can see tyre and suspension movement. Would make for some cool shots I reckon.

Tossing up 501 or 701 bit old so just tracks nothing scary. I think 701 bit easier on the distance will handle it a bit better. Love the channel well done Dave thanks heaps

Well the husky's and KTM's did extremely well, lots of holy crap moments and great scenery, another excellent video gentlemen! Dave, sorry to be pestering you, but can we hope in a video with your final considerations about 501 vs 701? Will you keep them both? Or does the 501 “subsumes” the 701?

I've got my on the Norden Expedition, which really complicates things. I'm over biked and something has to go. The 501 suspension shits all over the 701s now. For the Tropical Punch series we just put in appropriate springs. The 701 is such a mile muncher, but for outback touring you need a twin. Tough times :). But you'll be the first to know, together with the other 164 thousand subscribers. :)

Awesome ride fellas! Well worth the wait to view. My parts have started arriving for the 501, hopefully I'll have it sorted in time for the Giant Loop Rally, 1st weekend of June. I'm going to give the Adventure Spec "tower" a try. Just a simple addition to mount my Garmin Montana 700 and a USB. I'm interested to hear your thoughts after putting your 501 build through some paces Dave. Nugget seemed to get along with his 501 very well. You've really got to tell us Jamie's sleeping pad model & manufacturer's name so we can stay away from them. 😉

Good video footage Dave , actually Looked a pretty tough ride in sections particularly Some of the downhill steep knarly cross rusted rocky sections with all that camping gear on , wouldn’t have been easy in places , but wheel done to you And the crew . Iam interested to know what was your all up bike weight with full fuel load + camping gear for such technical stuff , anyway you and the Husky handled it with ease , good effort Dave

Dave and team, another great video. One big thing that's missing are the names of the tracks. Adventure riders like me that follow you use these vids to plan rides, looking for tracks that are 'must do' and sometimes ones to avoid. Even if you don't mentioning them while filming - it would be great if you add the track names in the editing (pop up's would be great). Looked like a fun couple days in VHC.

Nothing like a challenge. The mighty T7 would def be ok with it. It’s just the heart in the mouth that could slow the trip. 😊

Being over 60,'s rider . How did you find the weight and handle comparing 701 and the 501. I noted your weight on the 501 build was 141kg and the 701 standard being approx 147kg. Riding similar terrain as your trip. Thanks for the great videos
