@mototrailz Жыл бұрын
Of course the Desert X is better on the road because its suspension are suited for road use but they are horrible off-road especially the rear shock. On the other hand KTM suspensions are amazing off-road but not horrible on road. Ducati has a metal tank, really top heavy, impossible to get to the air filter without spending 1h30mins on the bike. Finally KTM is cheaper...so yeah KTM should have been 1st. unless you spend 80 to 90% on the road and therefore a Multistrada or BMW would be a better choice.

I'm now riding the DDX 'supermoto' style on the street. Backing it into turns, powersliding out, sometimes lifting the front wheel just for the fun of it. Ducati has worked its magic in developing the DesertX. No other motorcycle comes close to its mind warping capabilities.

Having owned 790,890 and t7, I’ll tell you Offroad the t7 feels like a fraction of the size. The ktms feel like a big whale in a China shop. Well, yes, it is true the Ktm has better suspension, more power, and better brakes, and more comfortable on the highway, the T7 is much more confident inspiring and easier to manage when you need to manhandle a bike through technical terrain. Most people measure the Ktm in a straight line through bumpy rocks and think it’s better because the suspension is better in a straight line. But try getting off the gravel road and going slow speed and maneuvering through creek, beds, and canyons on real life adventures. Turning those ktm bikes In real life terrain, the Ktm it’s like trying to handle a bull in a China shop. T7 much more nimble and able to finesse in 1-3 gear trails. Ktm only really good if you’re going faster through technical terrain like 3-5 gear.

Nice video, and commendable that MCN used a control tyre. Something other videos often miss. IMO we could have done with more action from the actual riding. Also how does the Norden fall below the Tiger given your criticisms of the Tiger were plenty and the Noreen's only criticism was that it wasn't the KTM. Also a bit strange that you're in Italy and completely ignored the Aprilia. The title of the video is "2023's toughest adventure bike" and whilst I don't doubt the Desertx is the most fun, it's far from the most toughest. Drop it a few times and you'll find the KTM is much tougher.

This bike just on its own looks like a gazelle thats been trained by some advanced alien civilization ready to win the Olympics, and with the other 4 bikes next to it it just looks like they dont even have a chance. Its just slick. And come on, its a Ducati, if you ever watch how they design, test and perfect their bikes, you will understand what's in the heart and core of these bikes. Just watch the documentary on the Multistrada. It'd be great if you could make a similar test with the 300cc offer. Im guessing the Honda CRF300Rally would win that one. Cheers from Argentina.

Name of this test is a bit pointless… How is “toughest” in anyway related to “most well rounded.” Yes, off road ability and on road fun matters but you know what also matters? Which one can I drop 15 times on a challenging route and still be able to make it home. Which one can commute week in, week out, then cross a remote section of the TET in the middle of Spain, without breaking down. I suspect the KTM would then be at the bottom of the list. I also can’t imagine an off road school is ever going to run a fleet of Desert X’s for people to learn on, without bankrupting themselves. What you’ve done here is find the most FUN Adv bike. Shock horror it’s the really fast, really expensive one.

Great to see all of these bikes together. Great review. I'd reverse first and second, personal opinion, having ridden both. Desert X suspension needs a lot of money thrown at it to come close to the 890 off road.

I own a Rally Pro. Never noticed the gear lever problem. Went for the RP as the KTM was hard work over long distance. I just did not like the look of the Husky or the Ducati. Tenere is just over priced for a basic bike

I would swap 1 and 2 definitely ! I don't understand how you came to this order. I got the Desert X from my dealer for 1 day and the Desert X wide tank area was making the inside of my knees hurt and all red after like only 1 hour offroad. I'm 1.85m and the pain was irritating me already. The KTM is much more narrow around that knee region, so while standing up offroad, you can squeeze the KTM between your legs ( as you should ) and it didn't hurt my knees at all. I was happy to have had the opportunity from my local dealer to try the Desert X ( since they are official dealer for Kawa, KTM and Ducati ), but I was so happy to get my 2023 890R back after it's first 1000km maintenance ! Also, the Ducati, on slow technical enduro stuff is a pain in the ass because of the top heavy weight. Similar to my old 1190 Adventure R actually. The new generation KTM adventure bike have the fuel tanks ( and weight ) down low to the sides and that makes a noticeable difference ! So to do river crossings and do climb slippery hills, picking up the bike several times when it falls, the KTM offers way more confidence and comfort. The low side tanks also protect the rest of the bike more, way more compared to the Desert X. ( obviously one would need crash bars on the Desert X ). On the KTM it's not really needed when you get the ALU powerparts skid plate. You will probably hit that and the handlebars when falling off to the sides... I would advise people to test ride the top 2 for sure and pay attention to this, prior to making a purchase decision.

The difference is the ktm isn't that good on road and they based the review on best all rounder on and offroad , and on road the desert x handles alot better and its alot faster and more comfy better electronics and brakes , the ktm shines off road and don't shine onroad .I think they said this in the vid

Thanks for review. I made the same tests and found the same conclusion. But I bought the KTM AdvR way cheaper than the Ducati. Aprilia Tuareg 660 is on par with KTM off-road, but the KTM engine is so much more exciting that it's worth the price tag.

Unfortunately the lack of dealer network for Ducati, Triumph, and Husky make them non-starters for me. The poor QC and poor customer service of KTM makes it a write off. That leaves the "lamest" bike as my choice.

@RedRupert64 Жыл бұрын
I agree with your ratings. The KTM is better for me because i appreciate its off-road ability and can easily ride it fast enough to locked up on road, so the on-road ability of the DesertX is superfluous. It's also heavier and top-heavy and it needs crash bars which will add more weight. The KTM looks odd because it's designed to perform.

@@banestock It has the looks, and prestige, also. It handles as good, or better, than a road bike, even in the twisties. Downside is price, maintenance upkeep.
