These style of "Neevesy sitting in a garden/garage/whatever" and talking through a review are absolutely spot on and fantastic. He has the perfect style and tone you could listen to for hours. He has the credibility and background to know what he's talking about and the Uber relaxed presentation, edit and music is all on point. Always look forward to these. Would very much like some longer stuff if possible as they're a highlight of my KZbin watch list! 😎👍

I hadn't watched this video until after I had taken delivery of my 2017 Supersport and I have to say, from my point of view, every observation made by Neevesy regarding this bike was spot on. As a more mature rider it is the perfect balance of power, performance, "wow" factor and also importantly for me - comfort.. I look and feel real cool and current on it - until I take my helmet off....🤣

Neevesy, I could listen to you talk about the differences and the whys regarding motorbikes all day. You always come across as a humble, honest expert which I believe you to be second to none. I was fortunate enough to be about 200 metres behind Foggy when he had his famous crash exiting turn 2 at Phillip Island. That’s a particular part of the track that even to this day I haven’t seen anyone come off at. Yes Ducati has produced some amazing bikes, however, for me they have been just that little bit harder to explore the limits than the Japanese rivals (especially in the 90’s) and really needed to be “muscled” around corners. Keep up the great work you do. 👍😎🇦🇺

If anyone is considering buying one read on before rushing in like i did 2 years ago after i did a test ride and watched reviews. Did 34000km and desmo service in 2 years of ownership. Besides regular service every year, bike was at least 2-3 weeks in service waiting for random things to get fixed. In 2019 2 months after purchase ecu died (or bbs as ducati calls it), bike went into limp mode and dash was flashing all lights and nothing worked. Dqs had its own mind and had to be replaced. Rear brake had to be bled every time bike wasnt used for a longer period, winter etc. There were recalls but nothing helped. Mirrors are horrible and started to shake even at standstill, making them completely useless in motion even when clutch was pulled in. They were replaced few times but still crap. In 2020 rear brake pad melted on highway, abs sensor overheated and caused all systems to fail, almost crashed on braking. Dealer said it was my fault for not keeping an eye out for components wear, i was barely a month ago in ducati service where they told me only chain and sprockets should be replaced and brakes and other stuff was good to go. This year, part of exhaust and exhaust valve got rusty, valve jammed, cable snapped and electric motor that controls valve got damaged causing check engine light and rough engine performance in all rpm range. That was last nail in coffin and i decided to sell this loose cannon cheap just to get rid of it. Would have done this last year after rear brake incident but i decided to keep it because it was so gorgeous and good to ride. Overall costly mistake and really disapointed in ducatis quality. Bought z900 and im happy now. I miss the quickshifter but thats about it. As said in review they didnt bother sorting the mirrors out, chances are high other stuff like rear brake wasnt sorted out either. Do yourself a favor and avoid this if you intend to use it for anything besides ocassional track day and weekend rides.

Almost £14 grand ...😳 wow! Speaking as a Ducati fan and 899 Panigale owner, I think I would pass on this 🤷🏻‍♂️ Last year I also bought the updated Ninja 1000SX for touring duties , that bike would murder the Supersport in every category! 142 bhp, 82 lbs/ ft torque, cruise, up and down quickshifter , you can get the performance tourer edition, with panniers, inner bags, Akrapovic pipe, etc, etc and still have enough money left over for a nice long weekend trip for the £14K the Supersport would cost you,..no brainier 🤔

Yeah but you don’t really buy Ducati for the spec sheet you buy it because it’s a Ducati and the build quality and materials used are just of a higher quality. If you’re going for the bike with the best numbers you wouldn’t be looking in this class of bike to begin with. This is just for cruising around comfortably and looking good while you do it. Like a daily rider that you commute to work with and you ride your Panigale V4 to bike meets on the weekends and put all the miles commuting on your super sport. For example a dodge hellcat has more horsepower than a Ferrari 488 but nobody in their right mind would take a dodge hellcat over a Ferrari just because it has more power the Ferrari has way better quality of everything and it’s a status symbol and women love it. Ducati is like Ferrari. Yes there are cheaper things with more power but that is not why you buy Ducati. You just want the nicest not the fastest. Any bike with 100 hp or more can keep up with any other bike in the real world riding on the street. So all the spec sheets and numbers don’t really matter in your riding experience. What will matter is all the attention you get and how many girls want to take a picture sitting on the back of your bike and just felling better than everyone else because you have a Ducati 😂🤙🏼. I ride Japanese bikes Yamaha MT-10 because I’m cheap but if I had money I’d have this bike as my daily driver for around town commuting daily along with multiple other Ducatis for bike meets and weekend riding withe friends 😍

@@Dara-ih6jq Hi, as I said in my original post, I also have a Ducati, absolutely love the performance and Italian style of the thing, but what I was trying to say is this Supersport S model, even compared to other bikes in the Ducati model range is too expensive for what it is 🤷🏻‍♂️…..I’d rather spring an extra Grand out and get the Panigale V2, a lot more desirable for not a lot of extra cash?

Disappointed with the updates. I own the 2017 model and think it's great but hoped an update would show some real improvements. I like the comfort and sound of the bike but feel it should be a bit lighter like with the new Monster and its lack of trellis frame. Would love a little bit more power, say 130bhp. It definitely should have cruise control based on the sector it's marketed at and seeing as they've made the front as a Panigale knock off, would love to have seen the same kind of detail on the rear. Had hoped they'd move the bike on with more than just a new fairing and slight electronics upgrade.

I don't understand why the Ducati Supersport is not more popular and better known. It is extraordinarily fun to ride with all that low end torque, even at legal speed. It is as comfortable as any motorcycle and more than many. There are not that many sporty motorcycles that can be rode with a bad back and I have no problem with it. It sounds good and looks even better. It is quite cheap compared to the other Ducati sport models. Everything said in this review is true, including that the mirrors are nearly useless on the road unless you clutch. I added an extra wide-angle mirror on a handle bar. The other issue is to find some cases (paniers) for it. Ducati does make some, but the price is pretty high. For better wind protection when touring, there is a US company called California Scientific that makes significantly taller windshields. Not quite as stylish as the original, but with far superior protection. And, at least in my jurisdiction, the Supersport it is not considered a sport motorcycle for insurance purpose, so much, much cheaper.

Ducati’s original multistrada had the air cooled 998cc engine, it was a great bike but the styling was a bit challenging. Great bike but couldn’t compete BHP wise on paper, however it was great handling, torquey and rapid esp on U.K. back roads. This is a very interesting bike, maybe seems a bit underpowered on paper but if it handles well I bet it’s plenty fast enough to keep up 😂

I like the review, and the bike, but even as a long time Ducati owner, I find a couple of the historic examples a bit of a stretch to give Ducati more credit than they deserve; Stoner won in spite of the bike, not because of it, with Foggy, WSBK was trying to find a way to make a level playing field while allowing Ducati more displacement, which was always under dispute, so I question Ducati having a superior engine design. At any rate, on the main topic "the savior of the sports bike" what about Honda? They have been doing this for the last 30 years in the form of the F series bikes, back in the 90s you could win national level races with your CBR600F or you could take it cross country in comfort. And now they have the CBR650R, why does it not qualify?

Purchased a new SuperSport S in 2018, sold in 2019 after 4000 miles. The constant false gears going up the box killed it plus the extremely poor fixing of the seat at the front which always unclipped sadly finished it off. Expectations not delivered, shame...

I've a 2017 model that gives false neutrals when using auto blipper downshifter. The auto blipper is so badly tuned to the point of being nothing more than a gimmick though. I can manually blip much better. The quickshifter is not too bad though for upshifts. Mirrors are worthless vibrating rubbish too.

Great review, very informative. Although I'm a little disappointed with the performance tbh, especially as the V2 is only about a £1000 more. I appreciate they're different segments & the whole point is that it's not a sports bike but for that price the Supersport just doesn't excite me unfortunately.

Same I'm struggling to justify it over an Aprillia RS660. And the S version is even more of a struggle to justify because of the price of the V2.

@ragerider6283
@ragerider6283 3 жыл бұрын
@@scarr998 Well yes & no. Big price difference but also very different bikes in almost every way. R7 is a small sporty supertwin while the SS is quite a bit bigger sports tourer with significantly more performance, far superior fit, finish & equipment as well as being premium brand. Although with all that said, I doubt the SS will be more fun or better value than the R7 but ultimately they are different bikes doing different things.

You're obviously one of the 'Willy Wagglers' Neevesy is talking about. 100 horsepower in a 250 kg bike is all you will ever need on the road, and you will never even max that out unless you want to risk your licence. The V2 is 40% or so more powerful, but makes a lot of that power higher up in the rev range, very handy for when you want to get to 120 mph more quickly ! Seriously, these bikes that are between 150 and 200 hp, have too much performance for sane road riding, they're just for ego trips or a track days.
@ragerider6283
@ragerider6283 2 жыл бұрын
@@SaintKimbo I take your point but I'm not a willy waggler, as you put it, at all. It's not actually got anything to do with the V2 being a sports bike really. It's about value for money & that Ducati have got the pricing wrong imo & it's too near the V2 when that's cutting edge & the Supersport S isn't. Base Supersport model makes much more sense imo which I'm still pondering. I like the bike a lot, I want one - but not for that price. Ideally I'd like a little more shove, maybe 120-130bhp but I'm not prepared to spend the extra to get there. Doesn't mean I'm right, just my preference, but I'm the customer & that's what I want. I used to own an SV1000S that was about 210kg & had 118bhp so not disimilar & it cost me £5500 new (in 2003) which was a great value bike so to reiterate the point, this is about price & bang for your buck.

@@PenrithPanther That could indeed be true. However, here in the Netherlands for example the RS 660 (of course the cheaper bike) starts at €12459- (which is not cheap for the 660-twin category) while the cheapest Ducati Supersport will cost you no less than €16790-. That's a massive 34.76% price increase for the Ducati from the Aprilia and that is killing for an already struggling bike category.

Being a owner of a Supersport S 2020 model I was pretty bummed they did the update so soon, the new model has very nice styling over the old and the dash alone is a massive upgrade. All in all though it is a great all around bike. I have done two up riding and I would say that it's not very happy being two up and staying smooth. So I wouldn't recommend it for a passenger. In fact I took the rear pegs off and keep the cover on the seat of mine.

Love your content, Thx for your expertise. I ride the twisties on the weekends and do 3 to 4 track days a year on my MT-09-SP. I do very little else on it. Rarely ever longer than two hours in the saddle at a time due to other hobbies and time constraints. Based on the track day feel, I'm starting to consider that I need lower bars ( looking at the Woodcraft ) and higher further back rear sets so that I'm not dragging the pegs on the track days. Its slightly unnerving when I hit bottom and throw sparks. Also, I'm just starting to run out of horsepower and considering an ECU flash tune. I don't quite think I want to be waded up on a full sports bike due to wrist discomfort. And also because I occasionally take a pillion/guest on a ride. So given al of that, which would you recommend,.... sticking with the MT-09-SP and making the $1,500 ti $2K in mods or trying the Super Sport 950 S ,perhaps a V2 Street Figher??...or is there something else you like for my particular riding needs and within this sub $20K price range?

I will add that anyone who thinks this bike does not have enough power, especially on the street, has either never ridden one or judges bikes by stats only. I don't own one of this but I have ridden a few, I also own a Desert X and a Hyper 950SP so I am familiar with the engine. If I bought a sport bike this would absolutely be the one. It is a fun bike to ride and it is plenty fast but with great torque. The comfort is great, my only complaints are around tech. No gas gauge and no cruise control on a sport tourer? I understand on my Hyper but no a sport tourer.

With the Monster and Streetfighter, it seemed Ducati pretty much abandoned the relaxed, sporty bike (not sportbike) for the road like the mid 90s - 2000s 900ss and 1000ss. Something which was comfortable, not extreme, and in that 90-110 hp range, which is more than enough for the street. That had been missing from their lineup for many years now in favor of the Monster, Scrambler, and Streetfighter, while the superbike became more and more track/race-focused. Sure, you can ride a Panigale around on the road (in 2nd & 3rd gear), but 200 hp on the road is really overkill. Glad to see something like this back in the lineup.

Nah, if Yahama ever makes the rumored MT-07 with fairings and clip ons, that would be the saviour of the sports bike, cause it would sell and be easy to maintain all around the planet. My city has 3 Yahama dealers, whereas the nearest Ducati dealership is 270 miles away. Hopefully they won't name it anything close to R7 as that would really piss off the YZF-R7 fans.

‘05-‘06 Sprint ST 1050, the first 1050 gen with a slightly sportier riding position, lower clip-ons and lower windshield than the ‘07 restyling, is still to date one of the best sport tourer ever. Hope Triumph will exploit the awesome new engine and frame of the speed 1200, and build a sport tourer with a decent fairing, longer swing arm, slightly taller gears, light and comfy enough but still lively and playful. That would be golden!
